Last night's episode (the one where the Hackett brothers get their revenge on their old high school coach....who has already died, but the brothers don't know it until later) could be considered a classic episode....because it's so DIFFERENT from the rest of the "Wings" series!

This is an episode with dark (some might even call it "sick") humor in it....It's actually more like an episode of "Seinfeld" than "Wings"! (I could see Jerry and George in the "Joe and Brian" roles, and Elaine in the "Helen" role and you COULD have a "Seinfeld" show with this plot!).

What strikes me about Joe Hackett is that he is basically a gutless coward. In the "Burning Down The House - Part 1" episode, Joe gets mad at Brian for "not being a man" and not owning up to doing something wrong...however, last night's episode was the SECOND time that I have seen Joe do the same thing! (Remember the episode where Joe made a mistake and got an elderly video store clerk fired? And when she had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital, Joe wouldn't admit to her family who he was, but pretended that he was an old friend of hers?)

"Boys Will Be Girls" was a very funny episode, but NOT your typical "Wings" type of humor. Anyone who has ever called this series "bland" and "cutesy" certainly has never seen THIS episode!

I'm in BIG trouble....My wife read my previous message where I called Joe Hackett a "gutless coward", and now she's making me apologize....She says that I can't talk about her "Joey Bear" like that....

It's nice to know where I stand around here!

This is one of my favorite episodes!!! Funny moments-I always laugh when Antonio is trying to carry Coach Mattay's suitcases and he's shuffling along. When Joe & Brian are putting on the make-up and Joe says to Brian-'It's scary how you put that makeup on so well'. I remember watching this episode in prime time and remembering that line. Then when USA started playing reruns, they cut that part out, but N@N played it.Also funny was when Helen overhearing Joe & Brian-Brian"You were great last night. Joe-"No, you were great. Brian-"any regrets?" Joe-"Not a one." And finally Lowell at the end-"I think it's time we talked about a raise!" It's definitely in the my Top 10.

Coach Mattay-the twink!

Old John Barleycorn, demon rum, hooch.

Actually, this wasn't really one of my favorites. there were some really funny one-liners and stuff, but overall, I thought the idea of it was kinda sick. lol.
I didn't hate it, but I dunnoo...

That was my point in my previous message....While it was a very funny episode, it wasn't typical "Wings".
The whole thing had sort of an ugly edge to it....even the idea of Lowell trying to blackmail the Hackett brothers into getting a raise leaves you with an unpleasant taste in your mouth.

It's one of those episodes that even though you're laughing along with it, you sort of feel GUILTY about doing so....but I DO give the "Wings" gang credit for this story....it took guts to put the show and the characters into this kind of a situation!

I would consider this episode as a Wings classic. I love the scene where Joe and Brian are sitting in the office after having done what they did to the coach. Helen walks to the door and hears them. Then she confronts them thinking they are confessing to killing the coach. And she starts to cry and Brian starts mocking her.

BTW, maybe this is mentioned somewhere else, but why is N@N showing these season 5 episodes now? I've not been watching Wings on N@N ever since it moved to 1am for the most part, so are these episodes that were skipped in the original rotation or are thet N@N repeats?

I agree! That episode is a true classic which could even give Seinfeld a run for it's money. I was laughing so hard at last night's episode. Joe and Brian working as a team is great and they keep me laughing that's for sure!

I watched this ep again last night, and I liked it more than I did the first time

I liked how Joe and Brian were working together as a team to cause some mischief. hehe. as if they were back in high school again.

that was funny when Helen confronted them about it, but she was talking about the fact that the coach was dead, and the guys thought she was talking about the fact that he had been dressed like a woman, and she said something, and they both shrugged and laughed at the same time, and then I think she said "I mean, the man is dead!" and they started to do the same thing again, and they both started to shrug again, and you hear the beginning of a laugh, and then there was a huge expulsion of air from both of them, mid-laugh when they realized what she said. The looks on their faces were hilarious.

and then the look on Helen's face near the end when the coach's son ripped his shirt open to reveal a red bra to everyone in the room. hahahaha.

and I had forgotten about this- it was soooo funny at the beginning when the guys were talking about how in high school the coach always referred to everyone as girls, and then Helen made some comments about how girls are just as athletic as guys, and then Brian says, "Helen, think fast!" and throws his keys at her, and she flips out and tries not to get hit by them. lol!

and then Antonio trying to carry the coach's suitcases. hahaha! That was great.

I know what you mean, it's kind of like the one where they all think Carlton is dying and everyone wants his stuff..however, whereas I didn't really find that one funny, I actually thought this one had some really funny moments. I loved Joe's reaction when Helen said that the coach was dead...he started laughing and then it turned into, "Huh?" That was hilarious. And I don't remember the exact line, but when someone comments that the coach was wearing a tutu, and Joe says something like, "It was a very tasteful evening gown!" lol! I agree, it's kind of a black comedy episode that really sets itself apart from other episodes of Wings, and was actually really funny.

I agree this episode seemed more like a Seinfeld episode, which surprises me that I love it, because I've always loathed Seinfeld.
