I got the Very Best of the Mary Tyler Moore Show delivered from the US last week,so finally got to see the last ever episode,as ever very funny and true to life and so sad!
It would have been very easy for the writers to have married Mary off, but by sacking everyone in the newsroom apart from Ted,was realistic and sums up the fickle world of television.
Great to have Rhoda and Phyllis back for the last show, nice to see Phyllis in good acidic form again and to have her and Rhoda competing for Mary's attention.
You could see the affection of the cast shining through in the last scene in the newsoom.
Also thoroughly enjoyed "The Lars Affair""Lou and Mary" and "Once I Had A Secret Love."
I think one of my favourite episodes has to be "Put On A Happy Face",Iknow its a favourite with many fans.

I love all the eps. you mentioned, but I think my favorite has always been "Once I Had a Secret Love." "Put On a Happy Face" is great--Mary has even named it as her fave! Glad you got to see the last ep too!

Not trying to brag or anything, but when I still had my Mary Tyler Moore website that company New Video emailed me and sent me my very own copy of the set. I couldn't believe that I got a free copy of that box set for just having a website and of course, because I advertised them on my site, but hey that was cool! Which makes me think if I had my site still up would have I gotten the dvd set for free? Oh well, I might actually take out a couple tapes and watch them 'cause I know I can't get up that early in the morning to watch Mary.

Does anyone know if TV Land will renew the contract so they will keep playing Mary?

Good question, Holly. Nice to see you around here again. I've been hearing rumors over at TV Land's boards saying that the contract ends at the end of Aug, and they'll stop showing it then. Naturally, I'm hoping they decide to renew it. TVL will never be the same without TMTMS!

 You know me I pop in every so often. ;)
Yeah, someone said that on the Bewitched board over there on the tv land boards. That's where I heard about it. I don't know, all their new commercials don't have neither MTM or DVD so I'm not sure. Of course, a few of them didn't even have Bewitched which ticked me off because there was Jeannie. peace:
If not, I'm sure someone will eventually pick up MTM.

Thanks for that! I've just never been able to find a site that sells the video AND says which episodes are on it, save for one or two. I've been considering getting it. I have made a list of the episodes I am DYING to see and 6 of them are on that video set so it looks promising :) Thanks again!!

Just out of curiousity, what are the eps you're dying to see?

Oh, and you're welcome, by the way! ;) I definitely recommend this set, especially if all you've ever seen are the Nick and TV Land versions of the eps. A lot of stuff is cut out of those, but here you get the complete versions.

I live in Australia so all I have the chance to see is season one (love that DVD set :D) and whatever happens to be shown on tv, which is VERY random. In the past 3 weeks we've gone from season 7 to season 1 to season 5 ;) (But, I can't complain, at least they are showing it AT ALL!!)

It's probably obvious from the episodes listed that I'm a big Rhoda worshipper also :o I'd kill to somehow get my hands on the full seasons 2-4 but if that's impossible then I'm just concentrating on specific episodes and hoping they pop up on TV here :)

If you lived in the US, I'd offer to copy some of my eps for you. But I can defintely say this: You've got awesome taste! I'm a die-hard Rhoda fan myself (I've even met Valerie Harper!!). A lot of the ones on your list are my favorites, too. If they're showing TMTMS where you live, I'm sure a lot of those eps will pop up eventually. You'll have to keep me posted on what you think of those eps once you see them.

Oh, and be warned: When you see "The Last Show," you're gonna want to have some Kleenex around. It's quite a tearjerker. :(

OK! Dying of envy!!! You lucky thing! How did you meet her? Was she just as nice as she seems she'd be? Aww :) You know what I love about Rhoda...well, a lot of things ;) But the accent! Does she really speak like that or is it put on? Cos I think it's absolutely the single most awesome accent in the world  I'd love to be able to talk like that! ;) And she's such a fun character with all the best lines. But even when she's (rarely) not saying something funny - the voice! The voice!

That's what I am hoping :) Also that they don't take the show off anytime in the near future...ie. the next couple of years ;) They're pretty fickle. I'm aiming to at least get one of the episodes before I head to the tape-trade forum here and start wailing ;)

I actually met her three times. (Please don't faint when you read that!! LOL) I met her twice after plays she's been in, and once at a booksigning. And "nice" doesn't even begin to cover it. She's so much like Rhoda in person, it's actually kind of scary LOL. But she doesn't really have that Bronx accent. I used to think it was real too, until I saw her on talkshows and heard how she really talks. She's from New York, just not the city. And she's not Jewish, either LOL.

But yeah, she's really awesome to her fans. Always signs autographs, poses for pictures, even gives hugs! (I know that from experience! ;)) Rather than have me gush about my experience all over again, I'll just post the links to the original threads from back when I saw her so you can see the pictures and whatnot. Unfortunately, I can't find my post from the first time I met her, but if you want I can re-post those pics.

Here's the most recent time I met her: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?threadid=89663&highlight=Valerie+Harper

And the second time:

OK, I'm not gonna faint, but WOW!!! :D You are so incredibly lucky. And I love those photos :) Thanks for pointing me to them :)

gaah, my illusions are ruined ;) No, even more in awe of now, that she can put on such an accent! Man! I wish I could do that, lol. The only American accent I can do is really bad southern so I sound worse than a stereotype

I saw Divorce Isn't Everything the other day by the way and almost DIED when Mary was confessing her non-divorcee status and Rhoda stood up and told her she thought that was a terrible thing to do ;) The moment before she says because she did it too, the look on Mary's face is priceless!!! :D

Found a copy of the best of on ebay but don't know if they'll post abroad yet or not! Gah! :p

Arrived yesterday :D Got straight onto it this morning and watched Where There's Smoke, There's Rhoda and Chuckles Bites The Dust :D I must say though it was also fascinating to see the different opening credits! Because all I've seen before is season 1 and 5 which had no lyrics, just music (was the whole season like that?) so my first observation was whoa, different words to the song there!

Not as keen on Mary's season 6 hair either ;) But I just about died laughing when she burst into tears at the funeral!

And of course the Rhoda/Phyllis interplay in 'Smoke' was pure genius, esp. Rhoda finally taking up Phyllis on one of her fake offers props:

I haven't watched "Where There's Smoke, There's Rhoda" in a really long time, so I'll have to do that again. :) It's definitely a good one. I really wish we could get season 2 on DVD.

I don't know anybody who doesn't like "Chuckles!" The funeral scene is a riot. If there's a most popular ep. of TMTMS, it's definitely that one!

Keep me posted on your opinions of the other eps as you watch them.

That was why I had to get onto it quick smart, everywhere I go it's Chuckles, Chuckles, Chuckles! :D

I watched three more recently - He's No Heavy, He's My Brother and the S3 pair, Put On A Happy Face and My Brother's Keeper, I think Put On A Happy Face has to be THE funniest I have seen!! And My Brother's Keeper the second funniest. Drat no S2 on dvd - I want S3 even more now! I almost died laughing :)

"Put on a Happy Face" is another one of my favorites! It's also the one Mary names when she's asked about her favorite ep. "I usually look so much better than this!" LOL If I ever win a major award, that's going to be my acceptance speech. ;)
