I guess the reason was only Laverne, Carmine, Squiggy, and Frank DeFazio remained from the original cast. I do not know why they had to milk this show until it was bone dry instead of leading the cow to slaughter and put it and the viewer out of their misery. By the way, the final episode, as it turned out to be, was a story about Carmine wanting to make it big in the theater. Weak storyline from a by then weak series.
