NEWS - Foo Fighters New Video Will Not Be Played By MTV

06/26/2003

The Foo Fighters' new video for their single "Low" will not be played by MTV Networks, due to the controversial nature of the clip. However, fans will be able to see the "Low" video as part of a DVD which will hit stores on July 1.

Foo Fighters hooked up with actor Jack Black on the video for "Low," which is the band's next single from its latest album, One By One. Black, who is also half of the music-comedy duo Tenacious D, struts his stuff with Foo singer Dave Grohl. The video features the two prancing around in women's clothes. In one scene, Black dons a curly black wig, baseball hat, pink bikini top and a pair of shorts, while Grohl is seen wearing a blond wig and putting on lipstick.

The video is not being played by MTV because of two controversial scenes, one depicting the two dressed in drag spanking each other, and one in which Grohl and Black's legs are horizontal on the floor intermingling with each other, implying a sex scene.

Grohl and Black have worked together before. Black appeared in the Foo Fighters' "Learning To Fly" video in 1999. Grohl played drums on Tenacious D's self-titled 2001 debut album, and also played the Devil in the video for Tenacious D's song "Tribute."

Prior to finding out that MTV would not play the video, the Foo Fighters announced that they'll release a DVD containing the video for "Low" on July 1. It will also contain three different video versions of the song "Times Like These." The DVD will retail for $5.95.

I must have that DVD. I hate MTV.

They also edited the crap out of Christina's "Can't Hold Us Down" video. They said some of the dancing was TOO provacative, and there was a scene were Christina appeared to be "masturbating" a water-hose.

MTV Networks are not playing Christina's video yet, but Launch, Fuse, and MuchMusic are.

Most likely they will- they are currently playing the anti-MTV role.

Have you seen the Fuse billboard outside the MTV Networks studio?

Bastards. They should just put it in nightly rotation then. I'm sure they've shown worse videos before. Hopefully Fuse will play it.

Oh well. I don't watch MTV anymore. Haven't for quite some time. If I want to see the video, I can either buy the DVD or download it online. I think it's currently available at rollingstone.com (http://www.rollingstone.com).

They also won't air Audioslave's "Show Me How To Live" video because it features the band running from the cops.

I just watched 'Can't Hold Us Down' on kazaa. it's not bad at all. there are only 2 hose scenes!!!! and it gave a GREAT message in it too. 1 of the graffiti walls said 'crack is wack'... i'll say this, christina looked gross in it.
