After watching many, many "Wings" episodes on NICK, I think that it's a CRIME that Tim Daly never won an Emmy for "Best Lead Actor In A Comedy Series".

Sure, there are episodes where Tim doesn't have much challenging stuff to do, but there are others where he's either extremely funny or doing some SUPERB serious acting.

It's not like the poor guy didn't CARE about winning an Emmy....The really sad part is that he (or his agent) used to submit full-page ads to trade papers like "Variety" with a picture of Tim and a message to the Emmy committee: "For Your Consideration: Tim Daly". (These ads show up for sale once in a while on eBay).

You hear a lot about the great acting moments on sitcoms when guys like Carroll O'Connor or Alan Alda would turn serious and give an "outstanding" performance....Well, as an actor Tim was JUST as good, if not BETTER, than those "respected" actor.

On behalf of the "Wings" message board, I hereby award Tim Daly an honorary "Emmy"....but just so we don't get in trouble with the Emmy people, let's call OUR award the "Snoopy"!

yeah! I totally agree!
After seeing so many Wings episodes, I can't believe Tim had never won an Emmy award for his work on Wings.
He's great with comedy. He's so hilarious in funny scenes.
Also, in the really serious scenes he's had to do, they were all wonderfully acted. It's rare to find acting talent like that on TV, and especially on a sitcom.
So yeah, why the heck didn't Tim ever win an Emmy?! rrrr.

So yeah, Tim- enjoy your honorary Emmy award from the Sitcoms Online: Wings message board. hehe

I totally agree, too. Was he even nominated? I don't even remember he being nominated. It seemed that the SAME people, the same boring stale people every year was getting nominated. Maybe because Wings really wasn't a powerhouse show. It was still alot better than alot of the really bad shows that had the nerve to be on TV. I mean it takes me ALOT to get to watching a show and become such a fan of a show. It didn't take me long to get hooked on this show.
:p :p :p :p

Yeah Phoebe7165, that's the real shame. As far as I know, he was never even nominated!!

It's not unusual for worthy actors or actresses to never take home the Emmy, but to not even get nominated is/was a joke. For that matter, as far as I'm concerned the same goes for Crystal Bernard and Steven Weber.

And while I'm on a role, I don't even know if the show was ever nominated for any writing, which is ludicrous I tell ya!

The only Emmy's I'm aware of that the show got was for Kelsey Grammer in his guest appearance and Tyne Daly for her guest appearance. I imagine she teased Tim about that.

We've all ranted about this before, but I still never understood why the show never got any recognition from the media and especially form NBC. I don't think NBC ever made a real effort to push the show with exposure and advertising and sometimes even the time slot (Like Friday night at one time) did anything to help promote the show. NBC did have adds to help promote the show. I remember seeing some great adds on NBC, but they never sustained it.

Yep, Wings got the Emmy shaft big time!

Talk about "getting the shaft".....I was in a bookstore the other day and saw that coffee-table volume called "Brought To You In Living Color" (the 75th anniversary tribute/history of NBC).

Just about every series that ever ran on NBC over 13 weeks is mentioned in that book (even "Ho-Hum" sitcoms like "Night Court")...but guess what? Yup, you guessed it....NO "WINGS"! Not even a casual REFERENCE to it!

Needless to say, I did NOT buy the book!

You know what Pilotguy, that just angers me! (NBC would have to bleep every word I want to use)

I never did see that 75th anniversary show that NBC ran, but I always assumed they had some reference and comment about Wings. Of course I knew they wouldn't get the attention of a show like Cheers or Cosby of course!! But I figured they must have at least mentioned the show and had a 10 second clip.

I didn't learn that NBC didn't say a word about Wings on that special until I started visiting this board. That is just SO wrong. NBC has had SO MUCH CRAP on over the last decade that was nowhere near the quality of Wings, and yet those shows got paid more of a tribute then Wings!! Krista, where are you? RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

LOL! yeah, that's exactly what I'm sayin'- RRRRRRRRR!!! lol
and POOOO!!!

Yeah, Well, it is really annoying that Wings was nnever really recognized as the great show it is! At least it ran for 8 seasons tho!! Nowadays (lol) shows that don't get recognition (even when they deserve it) only last for about a year. So that's a plus- there were still 8 years of it. they weren't so trigger-happy back then.

and yes- I agree that Crystal Bernard and Steven Weber also deserved Emmys. They're both very very very funny. They totally deserved Emmys.
and so did the WRITING!!!

RRRRRR again!

Yeah, NOBODY conveys my angst better then Krista, and nobody says RRRRR! better....lol

And Krista makes a really good point at focusing on the big picture. At least the show did run for 8 years and we have over 170 episodes to enjoy. I still remember when the show originally aired on NBC the typical media/critic coverage would be that "this bland show is on thanks to Cheers"...or "NBC still has this show on, they must not have anything better to offer".....it was always that kind of attitude from the tv critics. They never absolutely ripped the show, but they always treated it like bland fluff that offered nothing. And I never got it because I always thought it was well written and smart. And I had other friends that felt the same way.

And I still remember when USA network first started running Wings that a new fan base discovered the show and it started getting more respect. But obviously not much, since it still wasn't worthy of being mentioned on the 75th anniversary!!

I can't even believe that!:livid: It seems like they would at least acknowledge "Wings," considering it ran for 8 seasons on their network...that's a long time! "The Cosby Show" lasted for 8 seasons also, and we all know how much attention is paid to that show. I'm surprised NBC kept "Wings" on for 8 seasons, considering the lack of respect that they have for it. But thank goodness they did keep it on that long. I just can't believe that "Wings" is not even mentioned in NBC's retrospective. And I agree, Tim Daly is an excellent actor, and I can't believe that he was never even nominated for an Emmy!

ABC did the same thing to Boy Meets World. BMW was like Wings not a super ratings winner like other popular shows, but they have a huge fan following even 3 years after going off the air, and ten years after it debuted.
ABC never even mentioned it in it's recent 50th anniversary celebration, they mentioned Wonder years, but no BMW, and there were lots of less important shows that got great mention.
Honestly I don't understand it.
Wings deserves the respect that NBC never gave it that's for sure!

NBC did mention it in its 75th anniv. show-----as their Thursday night shows that were unsuccessful!!!!

They were going over "Veronica's Closet", "The Single Guy", "Men Behaving Badly" and other disasters that tried to follow "Friends". And then comes Wings, and I was like "oooohhh you b*stards!"

Because it wasn't a ratings winner it was "unsuccesful". Running eight years means nothing, I guess.

Tim Daly is an excellent actor. His performance in the house burning ep is awesome. His fight with Brian and then yelling at his dad is professional acting at its finest. Even though I didn't like Fugitive, it was great to see him get that instead of stuff like "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde".

And though deemed not a big show, look at the cast: Tim got Fugitive, Tony got Monk, Steven got Cursed, Crystal could come back in a second, Lowell got Ned and Stacey. These people have good star power.

Rrrrrrrrr! And I thought I was mad before!

Tim Daly did have some great moments on Wings....the Joe Blows episodes, the elevator marriage proposal, the house burning down episodes, his first infatuation scenes with Helen.....anyway, he was just very underrated. Hopefully, he gets another opportunity soon, and it would be nice to see Crystal again, although she may be more interested in working on music at this point in her life.

That is so unbelievable...how could they compare "Wings" to shows like "The Single Guy" and "Men Behaving Badly" which I don't even think lasted for a full season?! Even before I started getting into "Wings" again, I always thought of it as pretty successful, considering how many seasons it lasted for and how the stars of the show became so recognizable, but I guess NBC doesn't feel the same way... :angryfire
