'24' Set for Second Round on DVD
By Brian Ford Sullivan
CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will once again give viewers the chance to catch up on one of the longest days in Jack Bauer's life. The studio announced over the weekend it is set to release "24: The Complete Second Season" on DVD on September 23, just in time for its third season debut the following month.
And unlike its first season release, the seven-disc set will feature a large assortment of extras. Among them are 44 deleted scenes, episode commentaries from the cast and crew, two "making of" featurettes and alternate endings. The producers credit a six-month lead time to create the set as a reason for the plentiful extras. The previous season was rushed together in order to hit store shelves in time for its second season bow.
The set will again feature all 24 episodes in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 Surround with an MSRP of $69.98.
Bear in mind that we have not gotten official confirmation of these specs from the fine folk at Fox. Check back with us, as we'll definately keep a watch on this very explosive news!

As a follow-up to our news item from yesterday (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=500), we can now tell you that Fox Home Video has officially released supplement list and cover art for 24: Season 2. The roster of extras is exactly what was described by TheFutonCritic.com. However, be aware that the title of one of the featurettes is somewhat of a spoiler, if you haven't watched those episodes yet. So buy it...but don't read the back of the box too closely!
Speaking of the box, here you go:

The folks at Fox Home Video have decided that you shouldn't have to wait until Sept. 23rd for 24 - Season 2. Today they changed the street date to Sept. 9th.
Our thanks to Patrick at DavisDVD.com for spreading the word where we could see it, so that we could pass it on to you.

A month ago we posted this news item (http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=526) listing Fox TV-shows-on-DVD releases for the holiday season 2004. Dark Angel, X-Files, King Of The Hill, M*A*S*H, Buffy, and Firefly were all represented.
Now Fox is advertising these dates at their official FOX TV DVD website (http://www2.foxhome.com/tvdvd/fox_tvdvd.html). If you click on the "View All TV DVD Titles" at the bottom, and scroll down the list, you'll see the screen below. Below that, we have a close-up of the good stuff. Looks like it will be a hot winter!

Following up on our news item (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=613) about the 24 Free Preview Disc that Best Buy is giving away "while supplies last" (it contains the first two episodes from 24 Season 2):
This disc - which comes in a cardboard sleeve (and incidentally is not labeled "Fox Demo Disc #4" after all, not that it matters) has a great offer on the back of it for folks who are on the fence about getting into this series.
The coupon is a mail-in certificate (good through - when else? - 2/24/04) that lets you save up to $10. How? Purchase 24 - Season 1 (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=1373) or 24 - Season 2 (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=2460) between 8/24/03 and 2/24/04 and submit the original mail-in certficate (yes, you have to cut up the sleeve) and the proof-of-purchase tabs from the box sets, along with the receipts, and you will get a $5 rebate mailed to you for each of the season sets you purchased. They do NOT have to be bought at the same time, or the same place even. Yes, you can purchase it through online shops like those we link to here at TVShowsOnDVD (and buying through those links helps support the site!).
Complete details are on the coupon on the back of the sleeve. Haven't spotted it yet? Go to your local Best Buy store and ask for this quick, before they are all gone:

Note: in a day or two, TVShowsOnDVD will add a release listing to the site for this disc, so our site's users can mark it as part of their collection.
