In the episode where Brian makes the videotape as a wedding gift for Joe and Helen, Roy says in one of his "interviews" that Helen dated Davis Lynch for over a year.....
It just doesn't seem like she dated him for that long. It seemed more like a few months...and that's taking into account that the NBC network version of "Wings" was only on once a week.
So is this time frame correct? DID Helen date Lynch for over a YEAR? This is certainly one confusing "Wings" time-line!

Oh, the writers of TV shows. Don't you love'em and their short term memories? Yes, it was only a few months. I don't know why Brian said a year. If you ask me, I didn't think it was that much of a relationship anyway, because Davis kept cancelling on her and Helen was always having these doubts about him. I mean she was always going to Joe-and it wasn't just in the Joe Blows ep. I don't know why the writers just couldn't bring Mark Harelik back for a few more episodes. I mean I don't think he was doing much else. I guess the writers meant to do that, another obstacle to getting Joe & Helen together. Speaking of Mark Harelik, has anybody ever seen the movie 'Election' with Matthew Broderick & Reese Witherspoon? He's also in that. My sister just bought it recently and I've already seen it like 5-6 times already.    :ducky:

Yeah, I think the writers stretched the truth a little, but only a little. I did a quick check and Davis showed up in October/93 and the marriage proposal happened in May/94, so going by that time line they dated for at least 8 months.
And of course with (TV time) you could throw in a couple more months in there to round it off to about a year.
But I still think they should have done a little more with the Davis character and had him show up in a few more episodes. It was rather inconsisent to have him blowing off Helen every weekend and then all of the sudden propose marriage. But hey, this is TV.
I always thought it was a mistake to not have Davis show up immediately after Joe and Helen got engaged. After all the guy was waiting in NY expecting Helen to show up? Wouldn't he have at least been a little curious what happened to her? There should have been an episode immediately after the Joe/Helen engagement where he confronts Helen in some way.
And to make it even more odd, about two years later they FINALLY had a Davis episode and I don't remember very well, but I think Davis thought he was still engaged to Helen. That was a rather weak job by the writers, but I'll cut them some slack. Most of the time the writing was great on Wings.

Hmmmm....Maybe what the writers SHOULD have done was to fix Davis Lynch up with psycho Sandy Cooper!
.....or at least have them "hang out" together like Brian and Casey!
