why do you make threads like this? I think you do it just to start a fight. Do you have something against Joyce? If so why?

Joyce was very funny and she made me laugh and smile all the time.

What planet are you from. Cause i know you can't be from earth.

Well if you'd like, the next time she makes me laugh, I'll write down that moment and come post it here! I think she is a funny character, but nothing specific is coming to me right now.

How about the episode "Two Flew over the cuckoo's nest"? She was funny in that episode.

Solomon is just mad because he dosen't know what funny is.

I swear he's only saying this shiit about Joyce to upset me, cause he knows i'm in love with her. Otherwise he wouldn't say things like that.

What did she do in that episode to make you laugh?

I thought Janet was funny, but in a certain way. I love her reactions to the zany things that some of the others, like Jack and Janet, did. She also said some funny things, like in "Larry Loves Janet." I loved how she acted to try to drive Larry away from her. I think she was at her funniest in the last two seasons, when they let her character become a little zanier.

The part where she says "nuts" was funny, if it wasn't funny, then the people in the audience wouldn't have laughed.

And another thing, Joyce wouldn't have been in TC if she wasn't funny. They would not have hired her.

Well there was the part where Jack told Janet he was going to be a good looking man who came in the Beagle and Janet told him she was still looking for the good looking man. I know that sounds confusing but hopefully you'll understand lol.

There are also the scenes where Larry comes to the apartment to pick Janet up for their date and she was pretending to be a 'loose' girl...ie, Larry giving her the corsage and Janet telling him they should smoke it.

Not only do I think Janet was funny, I remember what I consider one of her funniest lines...

(This was directed at Jack)

Janet-" You know, sometimes I think the birds and the bees tell their kids about Jack Tripper!"

I never thought Janet was funny. I don't think she was written to be funny. I always thought of her as the straight person in the show. Without her, Three's Company would not have lasted 1/3 as long as it did. If Janet was funny, then I probably would have disliked the show.

Janet had some funny lines, but her character was not written to be "laugh out loud" funny. As jpnoyes pointed out, Janet was used much like a straight man in a comedy team for other, more comedic characters, to interact with.

I'm NOT implying that her character wasn't important to the show at all.

Oh good... another one of these wonderfully productive threads!!

Yeah, Janet was funny. Am I going to specifically look for parts and come here and tell you? No, because that would be pathetic.

Why don't you just keep your opinions to yourself instead of starting TONS of threads whenever you have something new to talk **** about?

Exactly! Which is why I was being sarcastic about doing that.

Janet was very funny, not only did she say some funny things she also made some funny faces to. Like T.aT.u Gurl18 said if she wasn't funny she wouldn't have been hired. I don't have to give an example why she made me laugh, obviously you don't pay much attention to the show.

Why all the animosity towards Sitcom Analyzer? He posed a topic for discussion and holds an opinion that differs from yours. This is a message board, a forum, where open discussion should be encouraged.

I would call it backing up your opinion. Not only is this a message board, this is a message board about Three's Company and therefore citing specific incidents from the show is NOT pathetic.

We're not here to cure cancer or gain some intellectual insight debating our peers. No, we're here to enjoy, discuss, debate and just plain talk about a wonderful, little sitcom called Three's Company. If something productive comes out of it, great, but that shouldn't be the goal.

And getting back to topic...

As far as I know, Don Knotts was the only cast member to have a strong comedic background. John Ritter is apparently "funny" in real life and that helped him in his auditions, but both Suzanne Sommers and Joyce DeWitt were not hired because they were comedians or naturally funny. Yes, Chrissy is funny, but Suzanne is not. Although she played Chrissy very well, she was hired for her sexuality and appeal. And I suspect Joyce was hired because she and John worked well together on the set rather than her being naturally funny.

But the question isn't "is Joyce DeWitt funny", but "is Janet Wood funny". Although she has her moments, I maintain that Janet is too sensible and too real to be laugh out loud funny.

Actually, according to the ETHS, Joyce was an "experienced comedianne"

Joyce was HILARIOUS! In "Larry Loves Janet" she was just so funny. She is very experienced, and she can do anything- comedy and drama. She showed her drama side kinda in "Some of that Jazz" and "Chrissy's Hospitality". That was nice, but as far as funny is concerned, she is VERY funny. She definately fit Janet. I think her best seasons were 4 and 6-- look at "Urban Plowboy" "Two Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

A funny line Janet said was when Jack was walking around in his underwear and Terri and Janet were complaining. Jack said "The human nody is nothing to be ashamed of." Then Janet says "I know, but we're talking about yours." That cracked me up so much!

First of all I need to preface my answer about whether or not Janet was funny to state that on Three's Company she was the voice of reason in the household. Also, I think she was far better looking and attractive than Suzanne Somers. The first three seasons the show made Janet look more like plain Jane with that horrible bowl hairdue during the first season then the following two seasons with that God awful perm. If you notice in season four when Joyce DeWitt/Janet's hairstyle changed to the more of the Pat Benatar look for one she looked better and became more funnier. I was glad when Joyce took a stand about her character and made Janet more enjoyable to watch. During the Priscilla Barnes seasons she grew her hair out and she was LOL funny. The show became more intelligent after Suzanne Somers and the direction of the show fit more of Janet's character during those years. It was less jiggle during those years. Frankly I enjoyed Three's Company more during the Priscilla Barnes years.

My answer is yes Janet was funny. Unfortunately, the character of Janet Wood underrated. She was the backbone of the show. Joyce DeWitt was an excellent straight man on the show. If she was goofy and/or dingy like Chrissy or Cindy the show would not be enjoyable to watch.

I always laugh at Janet during the TV appearance in "And now here's Jack". And how about "Breaking up is hard to do"? Or "Oh Nun", at the end? Or "The brunch"? or....

C'mon. It wasn't all Jack, you know. :happyface

Joyce/Janet was a great straight person, that's why she is my favorite person on the show. She kept the show from getting to silly to watch. Yes she did have some funny scenes like for an example, the scene in "The Fast" when she caught Jack trying to sneak out the apartment by sleeping outside by the door. That was a funny scene.

By far Janet's funniest moment was the episode where her and Jack thought Terri was dating a murderer. Janet climbing up the ladder and then falling, and coming in all muffled and covered in grass. Kills me everytime.

She was really funny and showed a mean streak in the episode where they let Roper eat dog food. "We can't let Roper eat dog food!".....Janet, "Why not!"...with such an evil laugh!

:brent That gets my vote for funniest all-around Janet moment. According to Chris Mann's book, that was one of Joyce DeWitt's all time favorite scenes.

There was a bit in the final episode when she's about to get married, and Vicky shows up to the wedding. I liked how she ran out of her room, covered her face and yelled, "Nobody sees me!" as she's running to the kitchen. I liked Janet's promotion where she makes the gesture about her chest. And she showed some physical comedy in "Janet's Sweetheart."
