View Full Version : Has anybody ever read The National Enquirer, Globe, Star?
Brian 06-26-2003, 12:35 AM Every time I go to the store I see the said magazines in the rack at the checkout lane and the article titles on the front covers are outrageous (sp?). I mean on the National Enquirer I saw on the cover something like "Elizabeth Smart Wasn't Kidnapped - She Was a Willing victim." Another cover of one had a picture of Michael Jackson and on the cover it said "The Twisted World of Michael Jackson." Has anybody read these tabloids (is that what they are called?) or any of the magazines mentioned in the thread title?
Mr. Stefani 06-26-2003, 12:44 AM I bought the globe the other day b/c it had a story on lisa marie presley and her mom. its some bs about them having a feud. i just wanted it for the pictures.
*PinkLady* 06-26-2003, 12:56 AM Sometimes I read the more interesting stories if they have any, but I don't buy them.
AnaheimPMWitch 06-26-2003, 01:05 AM I never buy them but sometimes I'll sit and read them while I'm at the checkout counter just so I can have a few good laughs

Mijada 06-26-2003, 05:53 AM If there's something that catches my interest on the cover I'll pick it up and look at it while I'm waiting in line. I don't buy them though. The only mag I buy regularly is People.
animalcrackers 06-26-2003, 08:19 AM I've only bought a few, but mainly I just read the covers at the checkout line or read them if they're on a table somewhere if I'm waiting. They're just fun to read.

Oh yeah, Batboy rocks! :D
My grandma suscribes to the Enquirer and when she's done with them she gives them to my dad so we have stacks of them in his bathroom. If they're sitting out on the kitchen counter when I get home I read them sometimes.
DarleneIllyria 06-26-2003, 09:41 AM I read them all, lol. Yeah, I know most of the stuff they print is bs, but I love reading them. I do have to admit I'm getting kind of disappointed in the NE and Star. They talk about the same few celebrities in every issue. Yeah, I know big stars means you gotta talk about them. It's just I'm so tired of seeing them in there. The World Weekly News rocks. I've only bought a couple of issues from there and all the stories are really, really insane.
Moonlight Lady 06-26-2003, 02:02 PM Once in awhile. I bought Star back in April so I could read all the BS they were printing when American Idol was on.
fr00ti 06-26-2003, 02:35 PM I like to read the covers because they are always really stupid, but I never actually look inside them.
webuster 06-26-2003, 04:03 PM I just remembered now that I read a few weekly world news issues- only cos I remember the Batboy picture.
Fleet 06-26-2003, 08:24 PM What a question to ask me (a collector)!
Not only do I read those mags., I have some of them dating back to 1975. I only buy them once in a while today, because I think they were more interesting in the '70s and '80s.
Here's the story-
Around 1975, my mom started buying them at the supermarket. I found them fun to read (the human interest and celebrity stories), so I kept them. First in my bedroom closet; now in the garage. I have some from 1975 and 1976, and many from 1977 up to about 1995. Probably 400 or more now.
I have the funeral pic (cover pic) of Elvis (1977) and John Lennon (1980). Of course, there were many stories of the popular shows back then- Happy Days, All In The Family, Three's Company, Laverne & Shirley, and many more. I look through the old ones sometimes.
My favorite has always been the Enquirer. And, that's the oldest tabloid I have- Aug., 1975 (I forgot which week in August).
Mysty Eyes 06-26-2003, 10:36 PM I rarely buy any of them anymore. If I see one at someone's house I'll take a look through the thing. I used to subscribe to Star. I let the subscription lapse after Princess Diana died. The mags are fun fluff to read; strickly for entertainment. You've got to read them like they are comic books. Never take them seriously.
julian bozo 06-28-2003, 08:19 AM I read them all the time when I am at the checkout stand. If it's a story about someone I really like or has good pictures then I buy it.
