I don't really like onions that much, but for some reason they don't make me cry. Everyone always says onions make you cry, but they don't make me cry.

I don't cry but my eyes hurt like crazy. I heard if you eat bread or cut it a certain way it doesn't bother you.

Yeah, or rinse the onions off in cold water, or put a piece of sugar cube in your mouth and suck on it to inhale the onion's irritating odor.

Nope, they don't make me cry. The smell drives me crazy and it makes my eyes hurt a little but that's it.

I heard that the more fresh an onion, the stronger the odor they give off. So if you cut up an onion and it is really intense, you know it is VERY fresh!

Yes, they do make me cry...my eyes get all watery, they also sting like mad...

I feel very sorry and sad for onions, and usually do cry when I'm slicing them.

It depends on how close I am to the onion. If I'm cutting it, it makes me cry, but if I'm watching someone else cut it, I don't get teary.

I love onions but if I have to cut them I won't eat them because no matter what kind I buy or how hard I try, they always make me cry.

While chopping onions hold a slice of bread in your teeth. It is supposed to absorb the onion mist.
That's what I read anyway I haven't tried it. Onions generally don't bother me.:D

Do you wear contacts? I used to cut tons of onions ALL the time to make yohoctus when I used to work as a meat cutter. To those city folks who don't know what yohoctus is, it is ground beef mixed with onions, egg, and seasonings which people then eat raw on crackers.
Yes, I know, it makes me sick to think about eating that also!
But what I noticed was, even though I would cut up a whole bag of onions, my eyes never watered! So, I figured I was either immune to those potent onion fumes, or my contacts were acting as kind of a barrier against it, seeing as how they do cover at least part of the eyes; the iris and pupil.

My mother usually laughs while cutting them.
