Finally, some good news for Canadian TV viewers! Recognizing how much Canadians like to watch US channels and fearing more 'gray-market' satellite buyers, the CRTC has announced that Canadian cable companies will soon be getting as many as 17 new US channels in the near future. The details can be found in this article from last Friday's Toronto Sun:

Naturally, the Canadian government is in an uproar about all this, like they really care about what their public wants. Personally I think it's great and long, long overdue. If I had the option to choose what I'd like to watch (and everyone will have a different opinion on this) here are the channels that I would ask for from my cable company:

Boomerang
The Cartoon Network
Comedy Central
ESPN
ESPN2
ESPN Classic
Fox Sports Net
Hallmark
MTV
Nickelodeon/Nick At Nite
Oxygen
TV Land

But for now I'll take what I can get. Anything has to be better than a lot of the Canadian stations out there.

I wouldn't want any more sport stations. The sports stations from the US hardly cover hockey. We have enough sports stations here.

As for TVLand, don't we already have it. I know the program schedule is not exactly the same as the US TVLand. Their TVLand, I think is better.

I wouldn't mind having their TVLand and Hallmark.

Don't we already have MTV? I don't care to see another Britney Spears special.

The Cartoon Network? Interesting choice.

What is Boomerang?

That's great for you guys!

Too bad over here in the US we can't (as far as I know) get any Canadian channels.

Boomerang is a sister station to Cartoon Newtwork. Boomerang features classic cartoons such as Underdog, Popeye, and tons of rarities from the 60s and 70s.

I hear there is going to be a classic cartoon channel coming soon in Canada. It will be called Teletoon Retro. I am not sure when it will start, but the Teletoon website will have more information in the next few weeks.:)

I use to have a canadian music channel named Much Music. It is a awsome channel, much better than MTV.
