N@N used to show the rare classics, like Car 54, Where Are You? and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis . I discovered those shows on N@N. Now, they show reruns of shows that have been rerun for years before coming to N@N. I can watch The Cosby Show on TBS. And I wouldn't have that stupid blue "bug" in the corner. "Cheers" plays on a FOX 19 and a local syndicate. "Wings," though my third favorite show in the world, has been rerun on USA since before it even went off the air in 1997. "Three's Company" had been on TBS for years. "Coach" was on TBS and then went directly to N@N without a break. And the thing that burns me up the most is that now N@N is the highest rated it's ever been.

And TV Land boasts about having the classics. They pick up "I Love Lucy" once it leaves N@N. They show those classic sitcoms that have been on TV for years. "Gilligan's Island" "The Brady Bunch" as much as I love this show "Happy Days." Whoy don't they show the shows that are hard to watch. I ask some people my age about "Car 54" and "Dobie Gillis" and they don't know what I'm talking about. We need TV Land to bring those shows to us. I don't know how long it's been since they were on the air. I know MacGyver has it's fans, and maybe it was a good show, but I don't see it as being a TV Land show at all. So I think if TV Land wants to boast about showing the classics, they need to get some better ones. And not just air them twice a week like on the Kitchen. Bring back Chico and the Man. That's a show that needs to come back.

I go on about this because I love TV and want desperately for TV to love me back, by airing good programs. Don't get me started to current "sitcoms."

Well im happy with TV Land as it is, But if i were to do anything i would drop all the double and triple airings of shows so they could add more. As long as Happy Days and I Dream Of Jeannie are one at least once a day im happy.

I gotta admit (jmo) and I know I've said this before, but I'm just sick of TVL. Mainly I agree with the first post. I've watched most of the shows on TVL for years and years now, okay, keep some of them and like the first person said, bring some rare stuff. I liked watching Archie Bunker's Place. It's rare. Bring it back and show Batman at a normal timeslot. Cut out extra airings like Chad mentioned.

Yeah, "Archie Bunker's Place" was a good thing to bring to TV Land. I have wanted to see series for years and I finally did. Now I'm not saying TV Land doesn't show any good shows, it's just I'd like to see some rare shows that haven't been on the air in maybe the past decade. "The Lucy Show" would be good to see again. "Make Room for Daddy," too. Plus all those old shows I've never seen. "Bachelor Father," "The Life of Riley" and "Hello Larry." Even "The Munsters" which I love so much, could leave for a while and "The Addams Family" could come.

"The Life of Riley"

I'd love to see the TV version of that. Which version would that be--William Bendix or Jackie Gleason. I used to love to listen to old episodes of "Life of Riley," "Jack Benny," "Abbott & Costello" and "The Great Gildersleeve" on "When Radio Was" with host Stan Friedman.

I hate N@N, they show nothing but rehashed TBS crap and shows that have only been off from network TV for a few years

I think TV Land does a good job. They CANNOT please everyone with the show selections but the schedule changes often and they show a wide range of shows so I'm good with them

Both channels need more variety and short-lived shows.TV Land also should become nothing but a 24-hour sitcom channel with a spinoff network for dramas.

I think the dramas should stay.

By the way, I think "Mister Ed" and "Green Acres" are good additions to TV Land. I also like "The Donna Reed Show" "Father Knows Best" "George Burns and Gracie Allen" and "Dennis the Menace" but they don't seem to show all episodes of those shows.

The only thing I look for when it comes to TV Land, is their Kitschen block. Most of the shows that have aired already our short-lived, some of them I have never even seen before or heard of, and all of the shows are unique and odd in the same way, that's mainly the reason why they are so interesting to watch. I think these shows add variety to TV Land.

I also like their "Better Living Through Television" block, I enjoy watching most of the shows that have been incorporated into the block, even if TV Land is only able to air a small portion of episodes from each series, they're all still worth watching.

I am definately looking forward to the additions of Mister Ed, Green Acres and The Flip Wilson Show, all of these shows I remember either watching on Nick at Nite or TV Land, and I would like to see them again. All of these shows were all certainly classics.

N@N definitely has problems. There's hardly any show on there that isn't already shown somewhere else. Once is enough, thank you.
I'm happy with TV Land, although I think they've played the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island to death.

It's all about ratings.

Bachelor Father? Hello Larry? How Many people would watch that?

I remember when we got TVL back in 1996 and I loved it.
Then it did the same thing N@N did, it started going down hill and, like a snowball, it picked up speed real quick. I realize that they are bringing a few good shows back finally, like IDOJ, Bewitched, and Mister Ed, but if only they would drop Happy Days, Gilligans Island, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, The Brady Bunch, Andy Griffith, Leave It To Beaver and I Love Lucy. I'm so sick of ILL. How about adding the Lucy Show, or better yet Here's Lucy??? I haven't seen that one for 20 years.

Why don't they show the good stuff like: Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Beverly Hillbillies, Mister Ed, Car 54, Dobie Gillis, Patty Duke, Donna Reed, Ann Sothern, The Monkees, Family Affair, Please Don't Eat The Daisies, Make Room For Daddy, That Girl, The Flip Wilson Show, Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, and The Ed Sullivan Show. Of course we all know why they don't, 1. Most of these are black and white shows or are variety shows and apparently bigwigs feel they won't appeal to the demographics
(don't you hate that word?) that advertisers want.

I know a few of these shows are coming back, finally, and they show a few selected episodes of some others, but there are many better shows they could air rather than the same old s__t over and over.

As for Nick-At-Nite, well it went down the toilet about 8 to 10 years ago and has never been heard from again as far as REAL classic TV is concerned. If Nick-At-Nite wants to add "modern TV classics" how about What's Happening, Gimme A Break and Mr. Belvedere. Nobody ever shows those two and they were great shows from the "modern classic era".

Well, that's enough of my spouting off for now.
I just wish someone would create a TV channel for ALL classic TV 24 hours a day. Nothing newer than 1973.

I saw part of an episode of the Jackie Gleason verssion of Riley once, waaay back in 77 on channel 9 in New York. It was late at night, around 11:30 or midnight. It was OK, but not the best show.

That's the first thing I would change is the multiple airings. If TVLand did away with that, they would have more room for classics such as Car 54 and others.

To TVAdam:

Actually, TV Land is showing some of the shows you mentioned, only it's TV Land Canada that has them, starting in Sept. Here's their schedule for Fall 2003:

http://www.channelcanada.com/tvzone/fall2003/TVLand.html

It's all there, from the predictable classics like "I Love Lucy", "Andy Griffith", and "Happy Days", to the rare gems which we both prefer like "Bilko", "Car 54", "My Three Sons", and "The Addams Family". But they're only available in Canada so you might have to do some fast negotiating with any friends that you may have up here in order to see these shows. Good Luck!

One thing for sure: It sure beats what TV Land USA has, no question about it!

I don't have any friends in Canada. I guess you know what this means ... I'M MOVING TO CANADA!!!!!!!!

Not really, but that ticks me off that I get the "bad" version of TV Land. I mean bad for me. I know others out there like the lineup and that's great. But I can't stand it.

Well, (sigh) Nick at Nite is the worst of the two, yes the worst. First with the pictures of different people in the corner of the screen and their obsession for The Cosby Show. Advertisements for The Cosby Show have taken over commercial breaks and showing scenes from different episodes of the show and making up ridiculous things like the Huxtable family tactics have become to much. Nick at Nite you can't keep up this obsession for The Cosby Show day after day after day. Each time i tune in its getting worse, Nick at Nite is at the end of their road.

Oh you think it's bad now? lol it's going to get worse

Right now Nick at Nite shows 2 hours of Cosby a night, and shows Kids Say the darnest things for a half an hour. Plus The countless Cosby Marathons, has made it painfully clear to the rest of us that they have favoritism tendencys when it comes to their shows....My guess is that Bill Cosby is very involved with Nickelodeon....Nick jr. little bill.. and I am not going to even go there when it comes to commercials:rolleyes: (even though I have to admit that they have improved, they recently started airing Cheers commercials)

for next fall Mr.Cosby announced that the first Nick at Nite Cartoon was in the making, featuring you guessed it Mr. Cosby.

plus the summer line ups (which by the way they have never done before, I don't mean the summer line up I mean showing a sitcom before the marathons) are moved to start at 10 pm so whoever is so completely addicted to the cosby show can have their 1 hour of it.

..don't get me wrong I use to like the Cosby show until Nick @ Nite became obsessed with it, I have seen Every single episode at least 3 times and I only started watching cosby last year.. and wasn't even that big of a fan. Now frankly it annoys me.....

Nick at Nite will air Fatherhood their first animated show premiering in January 2004 (it will not be joining the line-up next Fall).

I thought I also point out that Nick at Nite has aired sitcoms before the summer line-up starts each night, last year they aired two episodes of Kids Say The Dardest Things. However this year they will kick-off their summer line-up by starting with two episodes of The Cosby Show each night before the summer line-up begins.

Bill Cosby and his sweaters are over-throwing Nick at Nite. :p

Me too. Fantasy Island is the best thing they have right now.

Somethings about TVL I like, somethings I don't. Whoever said that all they show are comedies that have been run for so long...totally agree. Take I Love Lucy...I used to adore that show...now I wish it would go away. It's been rerun so many times, the film should have burned. It's on DVD now! It's taking away valuable airtime from a more deserving, less-seen show. And this from the moderator of the ILL board.

And Nick...it should implode.
