Happy Days-When Richie and Fonzie were in a last scene together before Richie goes to the army in 1983

All in the Family-When Mike hugs Archie before he goes to California in 1978

Anyone have a emotional sitcom moment they want to share?

I'll agree with the Richie and Fonzie moment.

For me, the scene in "NewsRadio" when Dave had the staff gathered in his office, and he read off Bill McNeal's (Phil Hartman) farewell note got me. The rest of the episode was pretty funny, but that moment with the cast crying at the loss of their co-worker was emotional.

Radar in M*A*S*H announcing the Lt. Col. Henry Blake's plane was shot down over the Sea of Japan, was short but very emotional.

In "Chico and the Man" Ed Brown telling Raul about Chico (for whom Raul replaced). Ed was on the verge of tears, and told Raul that Chico was dead. The whole episode was very emotional, but that scene was the moment that did it for me.

The last episode of "Boy Meets World" was filled with emotional moments.

That's it. That's the number one moment for me. I'd say AITF had a lot of emotional moments in it, but the one where Mike and Gloria leave = room full of water. lol

I have to agree with you TVAdam. This Chico and the man episode was emotional for me as well.

Also on Good Times when Penny (Janet Jackson) told everyone what was happening to her.

For me, in addition to those moments previously mentioned, these never fail to evoke emotion:

Happy Days-When Fonzie is praying that Richie will recover from his near fatal motorcycle accident.

Golden Girls-The final moments of the last episode when the girls bid a poignant goodbye to Dorothy.

Happy Days-Howard's toast at Joannie and Chachi's Wedding

Alice-When Mel closes the door to the diner for the final time.

MASH-When Hawkeye sees the Goodbye spelled out in the dirt by BJ as he takes off in the helicopter.

Archie Bunker's Place- When Archie finds Edith's slipper in "Archie Alone, Part 2."

Those are all I can think of at the moment, if i repeated any that were already said, then you just had an opportunity to see them again.

All In the Family - Tender moments between Archie and Gloria. The episode when Gloria lost the baby. Archie came in and comfort her. Also, the episode when she got pregnant when she sat on Archie's lap. The episodes that shows Archie and Gloria bonding as father and daughter were powerful, emotionally stirring and genuine.

Alice - When Alice confronts her mom, guest star Doris Roberts, about the she was berating Alice and her fears when her husband died.

Gimme A Break - The episode when they dealt with Dolph Sweet's death. My dad had died that year, as well as my grandmother, and any storyline that was dealing with a loss was hard for me to watch. That episode was real and genuine grief displayed on the screen.

Eight Is Enough - When Tom and Abby nearly called the wedding off and Abby expressing her love for Tom to her parents. The episode when Abby's mom came to visit announcing her divorce from Abby's father. Very powerful performance Betty Buckley turned in.

Family Ties - Elyse coming to terms with her parents divorce

All In the Family - Edith nearly getting raped.

Diff'rnt Strokes - Drummond's losing his memory from an accident

Archie Bunker's Place - When Gloria came for a visit and they embraced knowing that they are alone without their respective spouses. The episode when Archie and Stephanie was dealing with losing Edith

that scene in AIITF when Mike hugs Archie, as he & Gloria are leaving for Calif., and he says "I know you always thought I hated you,...but...I just want you to know....I love you." (or something like that)

The scene in MASH when Radar walked into the O.R. and told them about Col. Blakes death by saying "I have a message....Lt. Col....Henry Blakes plane...was shot down...over the Sea of Japan...it spun in...there were no survivors." And the entire room got quiet. Thinking abou that still gets me emotional, even after all the times I've seen it.

That scene in "Cheers" when Lilith told Frasier she was leaving him. (actully, I never saw that, but I heard it's emotional).

Since I can't remember much of sitcoms past...

My top 2 emotional scenes are both from

MAD ABOUT YOU - The scene during the finale of season 4 where Paul & Jamie are fighting in the park. You can just feel the emotion. I don't (presonally) think I have ever watched better acting on a prime time sitcom. OK so it wasn't a comedic moment but it was a great scene. I think I have seen that episode a dozen times & I still get a lump in my throat.

the other scene was the finale of season 7 when it was all over. They played the Faith Hill song & showed home movies. I think I was mostly saddend that it was all over but mixed with the song it just fliped on the water works....

The Nanny - I have had many emotional outbursts from this show but they have been mostly emotional bursts of laughter.

There are tons from growing up as TV was my babysitter lol
but at this moment I cant bring anything in marticular to mind.

Forgot to mention those two, and of course the Archie Alone ep from ABP. Also get weepy during the AITF ep when Beverly LaSalle dies. When Archie and Edith go to Ca. and find out Mike and Gloria split up.

Mine are the following:

The Brady Bunch: When Marcia has the role as Juliet in the play "Romeo and Juliet" in Episode #52, "Juliet Is The Sun," she becomes big-headed and egotistical. Carol, in charge of the play, removes Marcia from the role, and she gets all upset and teary-eyed "MOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (Moreover, the fact that the love theme from R&J was playing in the background in this scene makes it emotional.)

The Wonder Years: Winnie's break-up with Kevin outside the natural history museum in "Heart Break" ("Kevin ... I've ... met someone!") calls for the Kleenex box. The sad song "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys plays in the background until the end.

The Wonder Years: Wayne wanted to join the Army in "Private Butthead". Jack and Norma are in shock over Wayne's plans. Soon Jack condescends and lets him join, only to warn him "Don't expect me to get you out!" Kevin goes with him to the training station, and Jack shows up just before Wayne exits the station with the news that he failed his physical. "I couldn't even do this right!"

:crying: :crying: :crying:

Perfect Strangers - The Chistrmas episode where they go to all measures to avoid having Mr. Gorpley show up at their party, only to have Balki invite him, and they learn what a rough life Gorpley had. Specificly, in the scene when Balki passes on the gift from his mother, to Gorpley instead.

Barney Miller--The Jack Soo Retrospective. Very sad.

Barney Miller--Chano crying at his kitchen table after he killed a bank robber.

Sam shutting down the bar on the final episode of Cheers.

The episode on Coach when Hayden and Christine break up.

The episode on Coach where they flashback to when Hayden met Christine.

Episode # 121, "I do, Adieu" of Cheers. The episode where Diane leaves is so sad, and not only am I crying when she walks up the steps and he says "have a good life", I am literally bawling when they cut to the next scene and you see Sam and Diane as an old couple stand up and start dancing to "what'll I do?". I can't hear that song without crying...

the second is...

Episode # 275, "One for the Road part 3" when Sam says "sorry we're closed"...that's it...

Three's Company ~ The series finale, when all three roommates are walking out of the apartment for the last time, Janet is barely keeping back tears.

Friends ~ When Monica begins to propose to Chandler, and then Chandler proposes to Monica and it's a big crying thing.

Family Ties ~ When the family is having group hug with a few tears, in the series finale

The Mary Tyler Moore Show ~ When the gang has a group hug with tears in the series finale

The Golden Girls ~ When Dorothy is leaving to live with her husband. She keeps coming back through the side porch, and there are tears. <-- series finale

Most of the ones Brandon put as well as....

Curb Your Enthusiasm-Larry and Cheryl's talk during the episode "The Terrorist Attack",One of the show's very few serious moments (When I 1st saw that episode I didn't like it because I found it very depressing but after viewing it a 2nd time I realized that it was a pretty good episode. Not because it was funny but because it showed how much Larry and Cheryl really love each other).

Just thought of another one....

Sanford and Son, where Fred's niece Elizabeth comes to visit. Every time they played that sappy sounding stringed instumental over the emotional scenes, I got choked up.

When I first saw this episode, it was the morning after professional wrestler Owen Hart passed away in an in-ring accident. The whole emotional factor was intensified. TV Land just re-ran this episode today, roughly four years later, and still, I get just as sad.

M*A*S*H- the entire last episode was a tear jerker. Although I'm not a huge fan of the show, this episode was one of the greatest in TV history.

All In The Family- Several moments made me sad, but none made me cry like Gloria and Mike's farewell.

The Wonder Years- don't even get me started on this show. This sitcom has made me cry so many times- that I even considered psychological help... LOL.

The last episode was bittersweet.

Three's Company: In the episode "Some of that Jazz" when Michael tells Janet that she would never be a good dancer and then Jack comforting her by asking her for the last dance! That was a major janet/jack moment and a tear jerker. Also the last episode "Friends and Lovers Part 2" Where the trio says goodbye and Terri shuts the lights off to apartment 201, and shuts the door. I cried when I saw that.

Roseanne: The episode "Into that good night part 2" where we really find out that Dan never survived his heartattack. That was so sad.

Boy meets world: The episode "Angela's Ashes" when Shawn says goodbye to Angela. Also in the last episode when they are shwoing all the clips from the shows past, that was cute/sad.

Friends: The episode "The one the morning after" When Ross and Rachel reak up. Thats so sad because I love them together.

Happy Days - Howard's toast at Joannie and Chachi's Wedding

The Mary Tyler Moore Show ~ When the gang has a group hug with tears in the series finale

and the only time Ive really ever cried when I wasnt in physical pain....
At the end of one of the "John Ritter Specials".... I think it was Primetime or something like that.... and they showed a montage of clips.

When Alex's dog died on Taxi. That did it for me. He goes through the whole episode knowing the dog is dying & he keeps saying its only a dog, but when everyone has left at the end after the dog has died, he picks up the leash and breaks down crying.

I can think of two offhand...

Mama's Family - the last episode, "Bye-Bye -- Baby!", where Naomi Harper has her daughter...The ending is soooo sweet, it made me cry. You see a soft side of Thelma Harper she's never really showed on any of the other eps. *sigh*

Cheers - the first ep when Woody first appears and he asks about Coach, and Sam has to break the news to him that Coach passed away. :crying:

I'm getting tears in my eyes just reading all your posts, because I'm remembering alot of these episodes!!

Some of the episodes were already mentioned--

All in the Family--Edith's attempted rape was powerful for me when I saw it as a kid, and watching it even today, it still affects me.

Also, the episode when Edith's friend, Beverly, was murdered.

Other ones not posted-
Roseanne--the episode where Roseanne finds out that Fisher beat up Jackie.

The episode where Roseanne hits D.J. and she tells him later that when she was a kid, she got hit, too. Oh, and the episode when Roseanne & Jackie's father dies, and Roseanne's talking to his coffin.

Wings--when Helen is leaving for NY, and Joe tells her "I love you" and she says "I love you, too", and leaves anyway.

Also, Joe's speech to Helen in the elevator, when he asks her to marry him.

And lastly, the final episode of Golden Girls. You can tell Bea Arthur was having a really, really tough time getting through that last scene without bursting out in tears.

the episodes of where i get emotional are:

friends : when ross and rachel break up after rachel found out ross had slept with the girl from the zerox place.

after phoebe has given birth to her brothers triplets and she's holding them and talking to them, then she cries.

when chandler proposes to monica

when monica and chandler find they can't have children

boy meets world : when shawn hugs his dad in hospital and cries, whilst telling him he loves him, moments before his dad dies.

clueless : when cher finds out her boyfriend died after the car crash.

OMG, I don't know where my head is!! I can't believe I left out Friends, one of my all-time favorite shows.

All of the above, joeys_girl. When Chandler's proposing to Monica, and everybody's all teary-eyed, then it suddenly gets funny when Joey yells from the other side of the door "We're dying out here!". That's one of the things I love about this show.

But Jennifer Aniston & David Schwimmer's performance when they broke up was so-o-o-o realistic , and so well-acted.

Same with Lisa Kudrow's with the triplets. I think that episode is the one that won her the Emmy.

I Love Carol Burnett!

Happy Days:
Richie Almost Dies. When Fonzie is in the hospital, man, my heart just breaks!
Passages Part 2. The series finale, OMG when they show the flashbacks of the last 10 years.. I seriously get sick to my stomache. :crying:

Wonder Years:
Nothing would make me cry more than this show. I swear its out to get me! When Winnie breaks up with Kevin.. I agree with James.. 'God Only Knows' being played only adds to the sadness!
When Winnie gets in the car accident and Kevin climbs to her window and mouths 'I Love You'.. Bob Segars 'We've Got Tonight' is playing in the background and that is the biggest moment for me.

The Wonder Years has made so many songs I like get a certain feeling just from their episodes.

M*A*S*H - Radar announces the death of Col. Blake, and the episode where Maj. Holahan puts the nurses on restriction, and then finds out that they were sneaking one of the nurses out to see her husband, and she makes a speech to them about how she feels when she hears them laughing and knowing that she is not wanted in their tent, and she chokes back tears as she tells them how she feels.

Good Times - The death of James Evans.

Wonder Years - Any of the Jr. High episodes, because at the end they would always have Kevin's adult voice along with music, and I would remember the times when I was that age. And the episode where Kevin spends the day with his sister Karen. Or the episode where Kevin's mom is fired from her job at the school, and the episode where the girl has a pet tarantilla(sp?) and wants to be friends with Kevin.

All In The Family - Mike and Gloria leave for California, especially at the very end when Archie is sitting in his chair and crying and Edith comes in with a beer for Archie and sees him crying and she turns and yells to Archie that she is coming into the room and he wipes the tears.

Laverne & Shirley: Randy (Laverne's soon-to-be-fiance) dies and she stays up all night, waiting for him cuz he said he'd be there.

I think I cried a bunch of times in Boy meets world. One I remember most resetly is when Eric wants to adopt his kid brother but then decides not to.

And friends, I got emotional in the Morning after with Ross & Rachel were fighting & broke up. when rachel went to tell ross he loves him, but then just hugs him instead. the line from friends..."how can you watch this, aren't you scared? "Terrified" with rachel & Joey. Also alot with Chandler & Monica since they can't have kids. I will also say I saw the promo for the next Chandler & Monica episode and I almost cried and i read a friends spoiler like 3 or 4 away from the finale episode and let me just say---i cried just reading it. Ohh i also cried when Rachel and Monica were packing Rachel up to move away. Man this show has me on an emotional grip.

Hmm. Let me think. Oh ok...
*All those Friends episodes you guys mentioned.
*It might seem dumb, but theres something about the final episode of Lizzie McGuire that just gets me really emotional. Not the whole episode, but the scene at the end where theyre getting ready to take the picture and Hil Duff's I Cant Wait plays in the background...i always feel like crying.
*The final episode of Fresh Prince when Will thinks he's the last one out, but Carlton was still upstairs peeing and you just think "Same old Carlton" but then you realize its over. It gets to you.
*The episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation when Marco gets beat up for being gay, then Jimmy comes and Marco grabs onto him and cries, while Jimmy just keeps saying "It's gonna be OK." Its so sad.

P.S. I'll be 13 next Thursday!

-D:TNG is a show on Noggin's night channel, The-N. Its basically a teen drama, but its somewhat more realistic than the others, yet very intense. A great show.
-Wow, you mustve been clueless:confused: .OK, Lizzie McGuire is a very talked about disney channel show, and "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" was a 90's NBC sitcom, which now airs in reruns on WB.

oh yea, now I remember "Fresh Prince"!* Did you know the pilot for that was Will Smiths first acting job? I saw him once on the late-night show "Later" (a late-night talk show on NBC) talking about it, they showed a clip from the pilot, and you could see him mouthing some of the other actors words as they were saying them. He was saying that he did that because, since it was his first acting job, he wanted to do a good job, so he memorized everyones lines, not just his own! :)

*Will Smith is from where I used to live in the 80s, and he went to a high school that was near me back then.

Yep, that was emotional, but what always gets me time and again is in "Mother And Child Reunion" where Joey and Caitlin are in the bathroom after the fight, and she asks him what his late wife was like. When Craig's dad dies, and he says about how all he ever wanted was his dad to go away, and now he wants him back, despite the fact that he so heavily abused him is a tearjerker too.

You have good taste in shows!

Roseanne gets me on a few episodes, especially the series finale. I usually mamge to hold out until Roseanne leaves the basement and walks back upstairs and the slow version of the theme song is playing. Then I break. Seeing her sitting all alone of the coach really gets me, thinking about her without Dan and without anybody.

The one where Jackie gets beat up, when she breaks down in Roseanne's arms is so realistic and true to life and also extremely heart breaking. It's one of the series best episodes and the series was on a tear in it's fifth season.

Also from the fifth season, where Roseanne is reading her monologue to her father in the coffin. Gets me every time.

The Golden Girls finale got me the first time around, especially the end scene, as does Gloria and Mike leaving for California.

Another very emotional AITF episode if where Beverly dies. It's truly heartbreaking.

Not from a sitcom, but Timmy's death on Passions was a delayed moment. The same day he died on the show, he died in real life, making it all the more real. Every flashback is so emotional for me, as I'm sure it is for alot of fans of the show,

Yeah, that's a good one! It was kinda weird seeing Margaret so vunerable. A good ep.

I'll explain in a little more detail:

It's a Canadian TV show. It actually started in the late 70's as Kids Of Degrassi Street with little kids, but I didn't get involved until about 1987 when it changed to Degrassi Jr High, and had different characters than the show with little kids. It was shown on PBS in the US. Then as the kids got older, it went to Degrassi High. I was the same age as the characters on the show so I related. It was kind of cheesy, you could tell it was made on a shoestring budget, but it was edgy and dealt with real issues like pregnancy, abuse, drugs, HIV - things no one else dared to touch in the 80's. I'd classify it as a Dramedy - mostly drama but often funny. It's got a hardcore following both in Canada and the US.

The kids graduated in 1991 and the show was over. Then in 2000, they fired it back up again, and intertwined both old and new casts, so it's cool. I can watch my favorites from when I was younger, now again encountering issues that I am. The girl who got pregnant and had her baby in school's daughter is kind of sort of the main character of the new show, so it keeps key members of the original cast around and involved. The new show is still edgy, and still deals with topics no one else will touch, or goes into more realistic situations. It airs on The N (Noggins' nightime program) here in the US. It's been a great show - I personally never liked 90210 or Saved By The Bell because they were too fake - life isn't always wrapped up in a neat 1/2 hour package, and does not always have a happy ending.

If you want to see more info, I highly recommend their website - it's got lots of info for both the old and new casts:

The opening showed the nurses making some pudding in their tent, when Margret walks in and smells it. She tells reminds them that they're not allowed to cook in their tent, and that she's gonna put them on report. After she leaves, one of them gets so mad, she throws the pudding at the door. That's what that mark on the door is from, throughout the rest of the episode.

I think I read or heard somewhere once, that that episode is one of Lorreta Swits favorites.

I don't really cry at movies or TV shows, but there are some moments that bring me very close.

The last episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show":Mary's speech and the group hug get me every time.

The last episode of "The Golden Girls": When Dorothy finally doesn't come back

The last episode of "The Nanny": When Fran finds her Shades of the Orient case and they show clips of the show from seasons past, while Barbara's "The Way We Were" plays.

I'm not a big "Happy Days" fan, but I get emotional just thinking about Howard's toast at Joanie's wedding.

And of course Radar announcing Henry's death on "MASH." Esp. since the cast didn't know it was coming, and their reactions are so real.

Bewitched - "And Then There Were Three" episode. It was episode when Tabitha was born. The scene between Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York in the hospital room after Tabitha was born was powerful and moving. I was in tears during that romantic emotional scene where they were so happy to be parents. It looked genuine and real.

sorry to "burst your bubble" but with that MASH scene, the cast did know it was coming. They had to do 2 takes of the scene, and for the first one, the cast didn't know what was coming but, unfortunately, something went wrong with one of the cameras so they had to do it a second time. But, as everyone's seen, they were able to capture the emotion a second time. When you hear something fall on the floor, however, that was also real. Someone accidentally dropped a prop or something, and they decided to leave the sound in because it led to the emotianal impact. And, not everyone was kept in the dark about it. Gary Burghoff knew, but only because he was handed the final page of the script, with his lines, just 2 minutes before he walked in.

Some oeople say Alan Alda also knew, but that's not true.

Hey no one's really mentioned 8 simple rules the goodbye episodes and like the ones right after that. They were all really emotional as it all seem kinda real as John Ritter had really died and the writers made the episodes keeping it tune to how alot of people actually feel after someone close to them has died.

There are several moments in "Chico and the Man" that leap to mind as having made me very emotional:

When Marilyn rejects Chico's engagement ring cuz he "will never be anything more than a mechanic."
When Chico is going to NY to work in his cousin Carlos' car dealership and Ed admits he will miss Chico.
The whole episode when Chico's long-lost father (played by Cesar Romero) returns.
When Chico decides not to be a professional boxer and goes into Ed's office to return the good luck medal.
When Lisa the nurse's patient has died and Chico is comforting her.
The whole relationship between Chico and Nancy, the divorced mother he wants to marry.

I think these all make me emotional cuz it is obvious that they did the same for Freddie Prinze himself--he has tears in his eyes in each one.

But the one that gets to me the most is the one that was Freddie's last appearance before his death--the episode "Ed Talks to God" (how ironic!). I don't remember the original airing of--and didn't watch when it was on TVLand--the two-part episode in which Ed explains that Chico had died. It's just as well--that one would wreck me completely!
