It hasn't been announced for 2004 yet. One thing is that Pavan has the stuff for 2003 above! Hope this helps!

The full list is not out yet for fall 2004. Malcolm in the Middle is coming to locals in fall 2004. Not sure if Girlfriends or Gilmore Girls are going to locals, but Girlfiends goes to BET in 2004 and Gilmore Girls to ABC Family.

Pavanbadal, I know that The King of Queens is going to WNYW in NY and The Parkers are going to WNYW/WWOR in NY. Do you know what stations the others shows, especially Becker, are going to? I'm betting WPIX for Becker. I'm glad CBS ordered 13 new episodes of Becker. Even if they all don't air on CBS, they will air in syndication.

Also, in response to 2003 and 2004 on the cable front, Steve Harvey goes to TBS in October 2003 and Everybody Loves Raymond goes to TBS sometime in 2004. (I know these have been posted previously on other boards.)

Yeah, Raymond is starting on a weird month on TBS, July 2004.

I'm not sure about any of these. I saw a release about Ripley's being cleared in 75% of the nation, but nothing about NY was mentioned. It was cleared on KCAL in LA.

I can't wait to watch "The Parkers" on syndie-- I've always been a fan of that show for some odd reason. The rest of the other comedies don't catch my attention.

I'm also looking forward to Sharon Osbourne's talk show, she always has something to say. Hasn't "Ripley's" always been on syndication before?... I swear I've seen it on K-CAL.

I read somewhere a few weeks ago about two shows coming to syndication for a trial run on the FOX O&O's. They are not sitcoms, but might displace sitcoms. The shows are "Classmates" and "Ambush Makeover." They seem to be airing together. In LA, they are airing in the morning back-to-back on KTTV, starting July 7. I just saw a commercial on WWOR a few hours ago for "Classmates" to begin on July 7 at 6PM. I'm assuming "Ambush Makeover" will air at 6:30PM. "Steve Harvey" and "The Hughleys" might be moving to other times. All of the TV listings don't show this change, but they might have just determined when these shows will be airing.

I just noticed that Pavanbadal posted about Classmates as a weekly, but I'm pretty sure it is airing 5 days a week (for now anyway)

JTC, I just found out Ambush Makeover will air at 11 a.m. starting July 7. The channel is still unknown, could be WWOR or WNYW; replacing either Roseanne or Divorce Court. I'll post the channel when it's in, I think they are still deciding, lol. But yeah, Classmates will be on WWOR weekdays at 6 p.m. until end of September, so I guess WWOR will just air one Steve Harvey Show (at 7 p.m.) instead of two.

Thanks for the info, Pavanbadal. I'll bet it is on WNYW because Divorce Court already airs two other times other than 11AM. I'm not sure why they haven't updated the TV listings for either channel. Anyway, thanks again for the info.

Yeah, I thought it would air on WNYW too.

By the way, WWOR will still air Steve Harvey Show twice, but now at 7 and 11 p.m. (instead of 6 and 7, since Classmates will air at 6.) The Hughleys will just be 6:30 p.m. now, no more 11 p.m. airing.

I'm just hoping Three's Company comes on a local this fall here in the NYC market. It's returning to locals this fall, for a year at least! The locals that have bought it should be in later this month, it starts Sept 26 I believe.

JTC, another test run show is coming in August and airing on WNBC, it's called "Shop & Style" and will air just for August at 11 a.m., replacing John Walsh just for August:

Home shopping is getting another test run on broadcast TV.

NBC and ShopNBC are jointly testing a new one-hour home shopping show called Shop & Style that will air daily in the morning during the month of August.

It’s being produced by Dateline and Today veteran Diane Masciale, who described the show as "like the last hour of Today with the added layer of selling."

If it works, it could be a new revenue stream for the network and possibly affiliates.

Or possibly, it could go to syndication. Officials ruled out nothing in success.

The show will air on NBC stations in New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco from 11 a.m.-noon and in Chicago from 10 a.m.-11 a.m.

It will be live on all but KNTV San Francisco, where it will be tape-delayed.

In New York, the show will replace The John Walsh Show, which will go on hiatus until the end of the test.

I heard about this one, Pavanbadal. I have only noticed that The People's Court will no longer be airing on WNBC, even after tennis. Celebrity Justice and Extra are replacing it at 10AM. I know People's Court is going to WCBS this fall. I also heard an unconfirmed rumor that Millionaire will be going to WABC (this fall?) to replace a cancelled soap at 12:30PM. Makes sense, but I'm not sure.

It's official now:
After being potentially homeless in New York for a while, Buena Vista Television's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire has secured itself a Manhattan time slot.

Taking advantage of the demise of ABC soap Port Charles, Millionaire will air on ABC-owned station WABC-TV at 12:30 p.m. after Port Charles ends Oct. 3.

This year, Millionaire was airing on WCBS-TV at 4 p.m., but that
station is replacing Millionaire this fall with Warner Bros.' People's Court.

Pavanbadal, do you think Celebrity Justice will only air at 10am on WNBC for the summer? Will Ellen's new talk show take over the 10am slot this fall? Do you have any idea why People's Court is not on WNBC for this summer at all? I'm looking forward to it coming to WCBS at 4pm this fall.. it will be good competition for Oprah and Judge Judy. Judge Milian is a great judge. I'm assuming that with Millionaire leaving WCBS and People's Court being an hour long show, WCBS will be dropping their NEWS AT 4:30PM and only having the CBS 2 NEWS AT 5:00 and NEWS AT 6:00.

I think Celebrity Justice is just for the summer at 10am. Either Ellen's talk show or Starting Over will air then. Either could also end up at noon, replacing The Other Half. I'm not sure why People's Court is not on WNBC for the summer, I guess they don't want to air the reruns.

Local stations here in L.A. haven't started to begin "hyping" their syndicated shows. Only KDOC, and KTLA has.

KDOC has began airing promos for "Becker," and KTLA runs commercials for "Sharon" very often.

My locals haven't been promoting their fall shows either. I hope WUPL (UPN) picks up "Three's Company," because they air some classics like "Good Times," and "Sanford & Son." There's also the possibility of WAFB (CBS) because they air "The Odd Couple," but only like once a week at 4:30AM. I really wish WGNO (ABC) would air it. They have great picture.

Hi, not yet. I'm wondering what will replace that Disney Animation Block on WWOR. I did hear that DiC is coming out with DiC Kids Network and it has been licensed to WNYW, WWOR, and WPIX. New York Daily News - http://www.nydailynews.com
Advertisers, viewers
tuning out Ch. 9

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Ch. 9 is floundering under Rupert Murdoch. An aggressive cost-cutting strategy at WWOR - snapped up two years ago by Murdoch's Fox TV station group - has viewers and advertisers heading for the exits.
About to hit a new low, the station is on track to earn the dubious record of the worst ratings ever of any of New York's six major TV stations.

At a time when the New York TV market has been growing, ad sales at UPN9 over the last two years have been on the decline, broadcasting insiders said. Local TV execs estimate that the once powerful station has lost between $30 million and $50 million in ad revenues since 2001.

"WWOR is no longer a must buy in New York," said Jamie Korsen, chief marketing officer of ad agency Avrett Free Ginsberg, who used to sell Ch. 9 ad time. "I'm quite surprised they are in the situation they are in."

"Are we happy with where we are? No," acknowledged Ch. 9 general manager Jim Clayton. "Do we think we will do better? Absolutely."

Clayton, who also runs a more robust Ch. 5, declined to discuss Ch. 9's ad sales other than to say they're up since last year. He said a key problem for WWOR has been the dismal performance of Viacom-owned network UPN.

"UPN is not the equal of the WB," said Leland Westerfield, media analyst at Jefferies & Co.

Murdoch took over Ch. 9 as part of his acquisition of the Christ Craft station group. Overall, the deal is considered a win for the News Corp. mogul, who has squeezed about $150 million in savings by merging operations.

But the road's been tougher in New York. Sources said they're puzzled by Fox's decision to pay up for premier shows for Ch. 5, while packing Ch. 9's schedule with cheaper, second-tier syndicated comedies like "Steve Harvey" and "Roseanne."

"They've been using WWOR as a dumping ground," said a rival station exec.

Still, Clayton's banking on a big uptick in profits as he continues to merge Ch. 9 with Ch. 5. In the next nine months, WWOR's newsroom is set to move from Secaucus, N.J. to Ch. 5 headquarters on E. 67th Street in Manhattan.

---------------
I stumbled upon this article and thought it might interest those in the NY area (pavanbadal). I think we could possibly see some more program changes in New York with some "better" shows moving to WWOR to create a balance between the two stations.

Pavan
08-01-2003, 07:06 PM
Hmm interesting. Wow, WWOR news in NYC? I'm not quite sure I'd like that, lol. WWOR's 10 p.m. news is the best I think, I've been watching that for years. As for programming, I wonder what will happen?

Looks like WCBS will air Martha Stewart at 2:00 a.m. this September, and either WWOR or WLNY will air it in the daytime. Maybe WLNY at 10am? Since Caroline Rhea will be gone? Here is the info:

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (NYSE: MSO) and King World Productions, Inc. today announced clearance to date in over 80% of national markets for the launch of the 11th season of the nationally syndicated, one-hour, Emmy award-winning daily
television program, Martha Stewart Living (MSLTV), including a move to air twice daily in six major markets.

Beginning September 15th, MSO is launching the premiere of Season 11 on key stations belonging to many major station groups across the country, including affiliates of the CBS, NBC, and ABC networks. Additionally, in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami and Pittsburgh, MSLTV has added daytime distribution on either a UPN-affiliated or
an independent station in each such market, while maintaining distribution on the local CBS-owned stations in late night timeslots in each such market (other than Pittsburgh), thereby providing double runs in those six markets.

On the new stations, MSLTV will air between 9 a.m. and noon daily, while airing on the CBS-owned stations in those markets between 12:30 and 2:30 a.m., except in New York, where the program will air at 2 a.m. (for all times, check local listings).

JTC
08-04-2003, 06:24 PM
Once again, a great scoop Pavanbadal. I am 99% sure it would air on WLNY because WCBS and WWOR are not affiliated, while many other CBS stations are affiliated with UPN stations.

Although The People's Court is not a sitcom, it is joining WCBS on September 2 (Tuesday, day after Labor Day) according to a station press release. It will air at 4PM. It looks like the 4:30 news is gone as of 9/2.

Hmm, now with this change, I bet Sharon Osbourne Show will now air at 1PM instead of 9AM on WPIX this September most likely, read below:

Universal’s The Jerry Springer Show is moving it's second run on The WB Television Network affiliate WPIX-TV New York.

Jerry will replace Warner Bros.’ Jenny Jones at 9 a.m. starting Aug. 11.

Jenny Jones was canceled this year after 12 years on the air.

Jerry’s primary run on the station will continue at 11 a.m.

Universal Television’s Maury will also still be double-run on WPIX at 10 a.m. and noon, comprising a four-hour block of Universal talk shows on the station. Jenny Jones will be moved to a temporary 1 p.m. time slot before it leaves after it's September 12 airing.

I agree with you on it airing on WNYW, but it probably has 2 weekend airings and 1 could be on WNYW and 1 could be on WWOR. I know Buffy the Vampire Slayer has aired on both at one point.

On a side note, do you remember when we generally start to see commercials for new syndicated programming (King of Queens and Becker)? I'm guessing it will be in a few weeks, but I don't remember. Maybe you will remember.

Wow, you replied so fast that you didn't catch my edit on my post. I think it will be on both channels too.

As for the promos, I'm not sure, but I have this piece of info for the King of Queens promos:

Week of July 14
• Phase 1 Launch promos to feed via satellite - “Weekdays this fall”

Week of August 18
• Phase 2 Launch promos to feed via satellite -“Starts September 15th”
• Launch radio promos and scripts

Week of August 25
• Episodic promos for first 2 weeks of air schedule to feed via satellite

Week of September 15
• THE KING OF QUEENS premieres!

The set for Shop and Style is the same one that they used for NBC's short lived Later Today show with Florence Henderson, which ran from 2000-2001. When they decided to expand the Today show to 3 hours,NBC cancelled it but apparantly, they kept the set in storage for a few years. If Shop and Style doesn't last(since it is only scheduled for a one month test run),maybe NBC will ship the set to ShopNBC in Minneapolis for them to use.

Do they say, "Coming this Fall?" If so, then that should be airing. The ones coming out next week will say "Coming September 15, at blah blah time."

Also, be on the lookout on what will replace the following canceled shows in syndication: Jenny Jones Show, Caroline Rhea Show, The Weakest Link, Shipmates, James Van Praagh, The Other Half, and Change of Heart.

WWOR will air another episode of Married...With Children for the canceled Shipmates starting August 25 at 1:30pm (JTC reported that).

It really seems as if WPIX will really not be adding any shows except for Sharon Osborne, which will basically be balanced out by the cancellation of Jenny Jones. Even WNYW, which might be adding one episode of The King of Queens, is not really adding much new programming. I think this is what syndication will be like in the future. Unfortunately, there aren't as many quality sitcoms that are making it past four seasons. It seems like the shows that are in syndication now could be staying for a while. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The only sitcoms that will be coming in the near future are Malcolm in the Middle, My Wife and Kids, Scrubs, and Bernie Mac. At least some of the current ABC sitcoms appear to be on the road to syndication down the line.

Yeah, though I think Scrubs hasn't been sold yet, it will probably be sold this year a long with According to Jim for a fall 2006 launch or so. 8 Simple Rules will probably be sold in the 2004-05 season for a fall 2007 launch.

I forgot to add that Ryan Seacrest's new show will be joining WNYW in January. Pavanbadal, do you know how Good Day Live does in the ratings? It took me a while to like the show, but I watch it almost everyday. I hope that it isn't in danger of being cancelled. I know that it is very cheap to make since it's just an extra hour of Good Day LA, so that could work to the show's advantage. It's a better option than some of the other daytime programming, in my opinion.

Good Day Live gets close to 1.0 in the ratings nationally, which is not too good, but it does very well in L.A.

Also to note, I think Fall 2004 will be very weak in new sitcoms in syndication. Malcolm in the Middle is the only one that seems to be a go. Yes, Dear and Reba are also in the works, I don't think they have been cleared much, I could be wrong though. I did hear something about Yes, Dear being cleared for 85% of the country for 2004, but it wasn't big news it seems. I know The West Wing will be coming to weekends in fall 2004, and I believe Boston Public as well.

I wonder what channel Ripley's will air here in NY/NJ? I have heard that it could even be a weekday airing, rather than weekends. They made the 75 hour long episodes into 150 half hour episodes, with Dean Cain providing new introductions and conclusions to each episode. The stations that I know of that has picked "Ripley's Believe It or Not," are KCAL (L.A.) and WCIU (Chicago). Other stations clearing "Ripley's" include the Cox duopoly of KTVU and KICU in San Francisco, and Viacom-owned UPN outlets in Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit.

On another note, Sony has released the episode schedule for King of Queens for it's first three weeks in syndication. I'll post it on the King of Queens board.

Shop & Style is ending after only 2 weeks, it had 2 more weeks left, but they are ending it early:

NBC is terminating its August trial of home shopping show Shop & Style, which debuted Aug. 4 on the network’s owned TV stations in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco. The show will have its last airing Friday.

The company issued a short statement confirming the cancellation, adding that it "provided ShopNBC with increased online traffic, new customers and additional vendors. Our next step is to evaluate the results and determine where to go with the concept."

The show’s ratings tell part of the story -- it averaged a 1/3 in Chicago, down from a 2.2/7 for The Other Half, which had been airing in the 10 a.m.-11 a.m. time period.

Philadelphia was the only market where the home shopping show did a little better in the ratings than the show it replaced.

But observers also noted that the show probably wasn’t moving much product off the shelves to be dropped so quickly (although it would have come off the air at the end of August in any event).

A source familiar with the situation confirmed that executives involved didn’t feel that sales were strong enough to justify the show’s commercial-free format. NBC executives declined comment beyond the statement.

Caroline Rhea's last week on local syndication is Aug. 25-29, starting September 1 it will be gone on locals. WLNY has scheduled "Simon & Simon" at 10am starting Sept. 1, it should be just for 2 weeks or so, as "Martha Stewart Living" will take that spot. "Simon & Simon" airs on Sundays anyway I believe. WABC airs Carolina Rhea at 1:05am, I'll find out later what will replace it there.

ABC Family's last week is also Aug 25-29, starting Sept. 1 more "Growing Pains" will replace it.

I'm guessing so. I'm not 100% sure however. Out of those seven shows only Bernestain Bears and The Littles are worth watching probably, since they are older (80's).

The new syndicated lineup in New York City is not just the beginning of the new phase of few TV stations. Back in the 70's, they used to have kiddie shows that aired cartoons on a daily basis. I know that one kid show was on channel 11 was "The Magic Garden". During the daytime, they show sitcoms from the 60's and a couple of cartoon series and classic movies was used to be on any local TV station in New York City. I remember when "Full House" had took away the weekend lineup on WPIX last year and they had aired an 8-hour marathon back in June. If "Family Matters" would definitely losing their contract as well as TBS also ended their contract and lost all the Miller/Boyett TV rights. I wonder if Nick at Nite will own the rights to air shows that was produced by Miller/Boyett on a nightly basis.

Even though "Full House," and "Roseanne" are moving to Nick @ Nite. Local (L.A.) stations, KDOC and KTLA still keep them on their Fall line-up.

BTW, is their a definate answer if "Good Day Live" is returning?...or has it been cancelled? I'm glad that I live in L.A., because if GDL is cancelled, I will still have Good Day L.A. :D

I don't think a 1,000,000 audience is that bad, considering what other shows get. :\

Jamie Foxx, 3rd Rock, Moesha, King of the Hill seem gone after the 12th. Roseanne also, but that is coming to WLNY at 10am and 10:30am starting 9/8 anyway.

Confirming That '70s Show move to WWOR report from JTC is this article, also it mentions Sharon Osbourne will be 9am like planned, not 1pm on WPIX:

NEW YORK -- The title of "Ambush Makeover," one of WWOR-TV's daytime shows, could also refer to the schedule overhaul the Gotham station is getting for the 2003-04 season, led by a double run of "King of Queens" every weekday at 6 p.m.
Over the last few years, WWOR has become the New York destination for ethnic-sitcom reruns such as "The Hughleys" and "Jamie Foxx," and the station will carry "Steve Harvey" at 7 and "The Parkers" at 7:30 for the new season beginning next month.

The logical outlet for "Queens" was WWOR's sister station WNYW New York, which gravitates to more mainstream sitcoms. But because WNYW has made a commitment to local news from 5-6:30 every evening and continues to pull solid Nielsens with reruns of "The Simpsons" (staying at 6:30 and 7 p.m.) and "Seinfeld" (sticking at 7:30 and 11 p.m.), "Queens" was free to move to WWOR.

Also shifting to WWOR from WNYW is "That '70s Show," whose reruns will fill the 5 and 5:30 timeslots every evening on WWOR starting next month, displacing "Ricki Lake," which resurfaces at 4 p.m.

WPIX decided to make no fall changes in its three-hour sitcom block starting at 5 p.m. with "Fresh Prince," followed by "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," "Dharma & Greg," "Will & Grace," "Friends" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."

The station also won't tamper with its two-hour latenight block, with "Friends" at 11 followed by "Raymond," "Will & Grace" and "Frasier."

The new syndicated series getting the most buzz in New York is WNBC's "Ellen DeGeneres," which succeeds "People's Court" at 10 a.m. "People's Court" is migrating to WCBS, where it hits the gavel at 4 p.m., elbowing out "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" at 4 and a half-hour of local news at 4:30.

Two other rookie talkshows will go head-to-head in New York at 9 a.m.: "Living It Up With Jack & Ali" on WCBS and "Sharon Osbourne" on WPIX. But both shows may have tough sledding because their main competition is perennial time-period winner "Live With Regis & Kelly" on WABC.

That's not until January 2004. In NY it will air on WNYW (FOX5).

Ok thank you...

Does anyone know if Kirstie Alley is still planning on having a talk-show or if that fell through... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't forget this fall on Saturdays, WB11 will still have "Family Matters" on while ABC Family will pick up the show. That's right! "Family Matters" will be on both WB11 (WPIX) and ABC Family during the fall.

Starting Sept. 15, WWOR's 10:30AM is another episode of The Hughleys. It seems Jamie Foxx is gone from WWOR or will move to WNYW?

Cops will air at 11 and 11:30AM on WWOR starting the 15th as well, 12PM is Blind Date, and 12:30PM is 5th Wheel.

I'll edit this into JTC's post above.

Cops airing at 11AM is a shocker to me, but I think it airs in daytime hours in other markets (LA comes to mind)

According to TVGuide, Sharon Osborne will now air at 1PM on WPIX, not 9AM. This could be incorrect on their part, though because Pavanbadal's article says 9AM.

I think 1PM could be correct. I can't see them airing that show that early and up against Regis & Kelly and the new Ali & Jack. Maybe 9AM was the original plan, because I know for a fact it was suppose to be 9AM at first, I think 1PM is probably the time now.

Some changes:

WCBS starting 9/15:
2:05AM Martha Stewart Living (replaces Weakest Link and encore of Entertainment Tonight)
3:05AM Becker (replaces Up to the Minute)
3:35AM Up to the Minute JIP

WPIX starting 9/15:
2:30AM Taxi (another episode, replaces Change of Heart)
3:00AM Honeymooners (replaces James Van Praagh)
3:30AM Honeymooners (replaces James Van Praagh)

Hmm, maybe 2:30AM could be The Odd Couple or Grace Under Fire starting the 22nd? Since Taxi already airs at 1:30AM.

WABC:
Port Charles will air at 2:35AM when Millionaire moves to 12:30PM on the 15th.

WWOR starting the 15th:
12am Blind Date, 12:30AM EX-treme Dating, 1am 5th Wheel, 1:30am EX-treme Dating
(I'll updated JTC's full WWOR post to reflect these changes.)

WNYW still hasn't submitted their September changes.

Wow! TV Land had "The Honeymooners" shows but now, WPIX brought back the show in the wee hours of the morning. I've never watch the show since New Year's Eve and Jackie Gleason was a kind of guy. I hope that I will watch it soon. I used to watch it since I was a kid. Does WPIX still has the Classic 39 and the Lost Episodes from 1985 still aired?

I thought that channel 5 has brought back the "Family Feud" with Richard Karn for the first time since last year when the show was on channel 9, UPN affiliate. Thank you FOX-TV channel 5 for a good comeback to the "Feud".

WCBS
Saturday nights/Early Sunday Mornings
12:00AM TBA
1:00AM Urbano Latino
1:30AM Elimidate
2:00AM Elimidate
2:30AM Hot Ticket
3:00AM Unexplained Mysteries (the new weekly syndicated show)

I wonder what will air at 12AM, Urbano Latino and Hot Ticket were there before. Road Rules is gone, that aired 1-2AM and ET Weekend's second airing is gone (it'll still air 7-8PM).

The Practice is on WNYW Sunday nights now as well (1AM on Sept. 21, probably 12AM every other week). So WNYW will air both airings (Saturdays at 5PM is the other).

Both airings of Buffy are now on WWOR. Before it was one on WNYW on Saturdays and one on WWOR on Sundays. Now both airings will air on Sundays at 3PM and 4PM. Repacing The Practice on WWOR Sunday nights at 11PM is John Woo's Once a Thief, which was airing on Saturdays at 6PM before.

Another change on WWOR, weekdays at 9:30AM starting the 22nd will be A Different World, so it'll air back to back at 9 and 9:30. So Cosby is missing at 9:30.

JTC, some things we were wondering:

Larry Sanders Show will move to WLNY and air Sunday nights at 12:30am and 1am. So WNYW lost rights.

The West Wing will air Saturday nights at 12am on WCBS, so that TBA is now filled in. The West Wing will also air on WLNY Sundays at 6pm.

I posted the WPIX info on Taxi and The Odd Couple boards (Some minor changes for the week of 9/29 and 10/5).

Anything else still missing? No sign of Ripley's, Grace Under Fire, Walker Texas Ranger, etc in the NYC area.
