View Full Version : Expected more from wedding
JoFan 12-23-2000, 12:20 AM I thought tonight'S episode was missing a lot of things. Jo's an important character...well they all are! But I felt there were a lot of things missing. Like:
-A bigger JO/Blair scene. They've been more sentimental during other episodes, the the one where Jo moves to california. Their friendship is a huge part of the show.
- There should have been a more of the party, where they could have all talked about the past and shown Jo flashbacks.
-Natalie and Tootie should have had bigger parts, we hardly saw them.
Basically, I was disapointed because there have been so many better moments, about less important events. This should have been a two part episode. Maybe with a reception afterward and a dance with the bride and groom. But I will say that Jo looked stunning, she seemed to get prettier each episode towards the end!

*Jo and Blair rule!*
Nat: Look Jo if you don't get this scholarship you're gonna be back in the BRONX running around with the little pueblos!
Jo: Young Diablos!
BLAIR: Take them off JO!! I dont want to fail!
Jo: will you read my editorial?
Blair: YES!
JO: You PROMISE?
Blair: YES!!
JO: You SWEAR??
Blair: YESS!!!
Jo: i dont believe you (Ducks back under desk with a grin)
(Blair, Tootie and Jo laughing at Natalie)
Natalie: What?
(Continue to laugh)
Natalie: What?!
(Takes off her hat and looks at it)
Natalie: Oh good! Good!! I’m loosin’ a bolt! I’m working half wattage here!!
***Every Jo needs a Blair!***
Nat: A flash back within a flashback....! I'm so brilliant it scares me!
Michele35 12-23-2000, 12:33 AM I just posted basically the same thing on FACTSOFLIFE2's post. I thought that the wedding ep was too rushed from the time Rick proposed to the bachelor party and even the ceremony itself.
I was hoping for a more sentimental scene between Jo and Blair when Jo asked Blair to be her maid of honor. It was kinda like Casey was the best man so Jo thinks Blair should be the maid of honor. Maybe some flashbacks on their friendship would've been more appropriate. Anyway, I totally agree that Jo looked beautiful.
I think a two part wedding would've been the perfect ending for this show instead of the Blair takes over Eastland shows. It also seemed too convenient for Rick to be gone for a month so that the girls can keep living together until the end of the series.
TVaddict 12-23-2000, 12:39 AM Good call people. This should've been like a 6 part ending to the series. Doing away with all remaining episodes. Just reading the blurb about tomorrow's episode, "Tootie breaks her grandmother's pendant" what is this crap? Sounds like Tootie is 13 again, or she is now part of "The Brady Bunch." They could've done SO much with this. I liked it, it just definitely needed to be more than what it was. And it definitely would've been the perfect way to end the series. Not looking forward to Blair buying Eastland. I'm ready for them to be in high school again.
Michele35 12-23-2000, 12:52 AM LOL TVAddict! I know I've waited all this time to get to the end of this series to see Tootie break some ugly pendant. Jo's wedding should've been a huge event and it was too rushed.
Jo's parents have always been important to her and we barely got to see them. Maybe a call from Mrs. Garrett would've been nice, too. After 8 years the girls won't be living together much longer but none of them seem to be bothered by it. If Jo moving to CA or Blair/Jo graduating high school were two part episodes, this should've been a 6 parter. Mrs. G got a two part episode for her wedding.
Jo-Po Rox 12-23-2000, 12:59 AM I totally agree with u guys. The wedding episode was lacking heart and emotion. It seemed as if they through the whole episode together 20 minutes or something. I was expecting much more from an episode that had the most popular FOL character getting married. Talk about a major step in someones life for them to just breeze through it. Thats y I preferred the accident episode. Now that showed real emotion.
The Obsolete Man 12-23-2000, 01:08 AM Actually, the "Tootie breaks her grandmother's ugly pendant" is like an episode of the Dick Van Dyke show, in which Laura accidentally destroys her mother-in-law's ugly broach.
They were really running out of ideas near the end of FoL, weren't they?
Jo-Po Rox 12-23-2000, 01:16 AM sorry, meant to type THREW not through http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
LaverneShirley 12-23-2000, 01:50 AM Obsolete Man, many shows "borrow" ideas from other sitcoms. Like, the Alice in Wonderland episode (With Blair's... uh, interesting poetry). There was a 1977 episode of L&S where the entire cast is dressed up for Alice in Wonderland (and they all could determine the difference between Alice in WOnderland and the Wizard of Oz) because they were going to put on a show for little kids. But then Shirley gets appendicitis so they're running around in the hospital--in costume--and then Shirley runs away because she doesn't want an operation. Of course, FOL isn't the only show to have similar situations as others. Most of the time I'll bet it's pure coincedence.
Oh, and if you want a disappointing wedding, watch the L&S episode "The Mummy's Bride" One part, Shirl gets married to a mummy in a hospital and saves her virginity all her life and doesn't even wear white. This is nearly any L&S fan's least favorite episode.
------------------
"Well, Laverne is sort of childish" -Shirley
"Childish? Childish? Coming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!" -Laverne
"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!" -Shirley
"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!" -Laverne
After watching the very rushed wedding,it made me wonder. What went on behind the scenes? Was Nancy upset over the "quick fix" for Jo? Or were they all ready to move on at that point?
And now Tootie in an episode who's story(breaking something valuable) belongs in the campy,fun/silly Season 1. Yuk.
However,at this point Natalie's suppose to lose her virginity and Jo helps someone deal with suicide. Those belong,Nick-at-Nite!
Cause all were left with is a spinoff for Nat("Big City Blues") and a pathetic attempt to keep the show going. A very low point in the series. I've never seen it,but kinda want to just to see Seth Green,Blossom, and JULIETTE LEWIS.
I can see NBC execs now..
"Oh! We can keep the show on,because Blair owns Eastland and runs it..and we can have six or seven kids."
"That worked last time".
"Make it a coed school now..boys AND girls.."
"Yeah! But we HAVE to have Pippa as a main character, audiences LOVE her.."
-What would we get?
"The NEW Facts of Life".A dismal idea. It would have lasted less than a year.
Remember "Saved by the Bell:The New Class"?
It just ended after 7 or 8 cast changes, then died. Slowly, for seven years.

I kinda like Pippa, but where does she sleep?
And what did they do with the store behind the house? Sell it and seal off the door?
Anyone know? Help! It's been bugging me.
Abbey22 12-23-2000, 02:29 AM Pippa had been sleeping on the couch. I don't know if you ever actually officially see them decide to close the store. A couple nights ago there was a scene about the situation in the episode where Jo's dad meets Rick. Beverly Ann mentions that the store is not making a profit anymore and that they might want to think about closing the store and using the space to make bedrooms for Andy and Pippa. They never officially decide to because they realize they should talk to Mrs. G. and Tootie (Kim Fields was not in this episode)before they decide for sure. I believe this is the last time the store is really mentioned but I don't know for sure. Anyone else know?

Cokies 12-23-2000, 03:18 AM I think the episode was a bit rushed like you guys said, and the wedding should of been a bigger deal than it seemed. And seriously, I dont like Rick that much. I mean he's a good guy and all, but I was hoping Eddie would come back and crash the wedding. That would of been awesome! It sure as hell would of made a better episode.

"It was just like Saturday Night Fever, except it was a Friday."
Madness 12-23-2000, 03:57 AM Mrs. Garrett definitely should have been there...whether or not the wedding was sudden. She meant so much to the girls that you would think Jo would have wanted her there! And I agree, the wedding was too rushed. At least a 2 parter would have been nice.
Happy Holidays,

Madness 12-23-2000, 04:31 AM Thanks.
Michele35 12-23-2000, 01:08 PM I think that by the last season the cast, writers, etc. were probably ready to move on. It sure would've been nice to see the suicide and virginity episodes, though.
I'm not sure whatever happened to the store, Abbey. Seems like either it got dropped or maybe they closed it in one of the episodes that N@N didn't air. Pippa was sitting on the couch waiting for Blair in the accident episode and Beverly Ann asked her why she was still up...I kinda got the impression that she didn't sleep on the couch anymore so maybe they did close the store.
80skid 12-23-2000, 01:27 PM yeah... i liked it, but i just kept imagining mrs. g coming in and saying "you can't have jo's wedding without mrs. garrett!"... hhmm, maybe we should do a fan fic of a better jo wedding... anybody up for it?

Pippa: Won't you tell me now?
Blair: Tomorrow.
Jo: Rick...
Pippa: Rick?
Jo/Nat/Blair: Tomorrow, Pippa!
Natalie: A flashback within a flashback... I'm so brilliant it scares me!
Natalie: You thought she was the delivery boy? I was gonna ask her to the fall dance before I knew! [from my favorite ep, New girl part 1]
Jo: you're born, you grow, you die, hey that's life.
JoFan 12-23-2000, 01:50 PM Wow! Glad to see I wasn't the only disapointed one! And I can't seem to decide about Rick...he's nice and all, but somehow I can't see a lot of romantic chemistry between them. I like Eric better...is that his name? The guy in the rating game episode. He was handsome. Jo has become way to attractive for someone like Rick.

new england holiday 12-23-2000, 02:35 PM Yeah, it was kinda dissapointing. I thought that the ceremony was rushed and Jo's parents didnt say anything to her so that seemed kinda weird. BUT, I thought Rick's "photo album" was soooo sweet! I wish the show wouldve went longer so we could have had more Jo-Rick scenes like that! AWWWWW!!!!

Jo: Singing it like Julie Andrews.

Hopper: You know I am really a shy kind of guy,but I have been watching you from across the cabin, and I said to myself,"Hopper don't let this one slip away!"
Jo: You know I have been watching you too.You have a lot to be shy about!
*************************
Beverly Ann: Let's see. It's tomorrow in Africa so if I want to talk to Edna today then I should have called her yesterday...
*************************
Natalie: It's a busy day for me. I have to go down to the newspaper office, get a lung transplant...
*************************
Beverly Ann: I wonder what's wrong with Jo.
Blair: Today or in general?
*************************
Blair: Where have you been?
Jo: At the library.
Blair: Oh, reading "Dumbo", how cute.
Jo: I don't have to read "Dumbo." I bunk right next to her.

Blair: But if I'm not perfect... and that's a *BIG* if, then it wasn't his place to say so.
Jo: You're right. It's my place to say so.
gottaluvJo 12-23-2000, 03:18 PM I didn't see the wedding episode(i wasnt around so i taped it) but by the sounds of it, it should have been longer. now, i think any episode based on Jo should be longer cuz she's (in my opinion) the best character on the show; but anyway, this is a big deal, sort of an in-your-face to Blair(after all of those "no one will ever marry Jo"remarks.
gottaluvJo 12-23-2000, 03:27 PM Some of my fave quotes:
Jo:Look, I have a lot to do today. I'm going to that party with Rick tonight, and I have to book a motel room.
(Blair and Nat stare at her)
Jo:Alright, let me try this a different way:My dad is coming to town tommorrow and i have to find him aplace to stay. Then I have to get ready for my date.
Blair: Jo, if you were going to get ready for a date, you really should have left yourself more than a day.(from "Something in common")
More on the way
Abbey22 12-23-2000, 05:24 PM To Michele35: I got the same impression when I saw Pippa on the couch. It looked to me like she did not sleep on the couch anymore. So I also thought that either the store officially closed in an episode we did not see or they just kind of closed it off screen. Hey they do things off screen all the time in soap operas, why not on FOL? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
