Anyone else love this? It's one of my favourite Britcoms, even though it finished years ago. Classics are always the best. :)

Hyacinth Bucket, er, Bouquet () was such a great character. I always laughed so much the way she used to make everyone take off their shoes on her front doorstep and the way she used to "sing" at poor Emmett, who would always try to avoid her if he saw her coming by trying to quickly sneak back into his house or hide behind the garden wall! I also always laugh at how Elizabeth ALWAYS spills her coffee whenever she's visiting Hyacinth.

And Hyacinth's family are great. I love the tarty, mutton dressed as lamb trashy Rose and the fat common slobs Onslow and Daisy and the way Hyacinth is so embarrassed about them...or the way her son Sherridon (sp?) only ever phones home when he wants money!

The whole thing is just so great. Any other fans?

Hyacinth - c'mon we ALL know someone like her - is such a riot. Richard is so doting (where can I find someone like him?). The "dishy" vicar and his wife, "sexy" (to me) Emmett and his sister Elizabeth seem to be the only "normal - middle class" people on the show. Her sister Violet and husband in drag, Bruce are rich...but embarrassing. The poor relations, Rose, Onslow and Daisy are poor...but proud. Favorite episode: Where she and Richard go to test drive a car...end up stealing it and getting the police after them at a grand resort.:D

Patricia Routledge (Hyacinth) was hysterical! She always clashed with everyone because of her extreme perfectionism and "high" esteem, I remember the time when she was supposed to host a church social...everyone, including the minister, hid from her when she arrived. She said to the minister's wife, I think it was, (the only person who didn't hide), "Where is everyone? Don't they realize I am in charge of this function?" Of course they did, that is why they made a beeline for cover. :happyface :D

Isn't every episode basically the same?

Hyacinth wants to hold a candle light supper. The Candle Light supper gets interupted when father goes missing. Then they spend the rest of the episode looking for father.

I like the episode, where they were at the Church and Hyacinth comes in singing and the lady dancers were on stage everyone makes a run for it to the storage room in the basement with the 3 ladies on stage, everyone went looking for them and in the dark storage room in the Church basement, there was Emitt, Richard, and the Vicar hiding with the 3 ladies and the Vicars wife said you got some explaining to do.

The episode where Hyacinth invited people to here sister violet's place for a cook out and Violet and Bruce started to fight so she had them sing so they couldn't hear them fight and just then daddy rides by on a bike with a bucket full of horse manoure and there was a fire and she thought daddy had water so she grabs the bucket off of him and throws it at the fire.

The episode where they rented boats and went down the river. Rose, Volet, Daisey, Oslo show up just in time to see Hyacinth all drentched in water. Oslo says you got to admire that stiff upper lip.

The dog that always barked at Hyacinth from inside of the car when she walked by it to Daisey's place.

Daddy thought the war was still on and he was still in the army and he kept trying to join the foreign legion.

Where Hyacinth said she knew how to ride horses so she invited Emmitt and Elizabeth to join them only to fall in the water.

The one where she said Richard knew how to captian a ship and they tried to get in and the boat kept moving. She ends up falling in the water also.

The one where she was trying impress some business men at a golf course and told Oslo to come so Richard could through him out like he was big and tough.

The one where they had to go downtown to get Daddy at business and when she went into get him they thought she was a strip dancer.

Our Hushpuppies:

I agree with you, "Waterside Supper with Riparian Entertainments" is one of my favourite episodes of KUA.

My other favourites include...

Violet and Bruce's cottage in the country (with Bunty and Dorian).

Hyacinth and Richard's "Old World Bijou Flat in the country".

Emmett comes to stay with Elizabeth.

The Electrics at the Church Hall.

"Luxury Yachting".

Angel Gabriel Blue.

I preferred the 2nd broader, more loopy Rose to the chronically depressed and glum 1st one!
Also, did anyone find it odd that Elizabeth always would get upset if Emmett was seen in a compromising spot with a woman (Rose, the church chorus girls)? I mean he was her brother- and one would think she'd welcome him finding someone after his divorce. .and moving out of her house! Also, I don't think she was as close to her daughter as she wanted Hyacinth to think- if for no other reason than she'd be visiting her grown daughter to get away from Hyacinth if she actually COULD!

I know this is an old thread but I love this show. I just saw the Christmas one where Richard has to dress up like Santa but gets drunk. And later at the church Oslo kisses Hyacinth. Hilarious!

Yes, a great show, I didn't like it the first two times I watched it, then it sank in. Great performances all around, and who doesn't love Onslow? One of the great characters; he did the voice of Paul in Yellow Submarine too.
I think the BritComs are so superior to the stuff we've been saddled with in the US, not much made over here really compares. maybe I'm just a Brit at heart...I do love the ales.

I like the episode where Richard forgot the anniversary.

very funny episode! lol

The anniversary present was the house alarm.

She thought he remembered the aniversary

At the end of the episode, Richard came home late and dailed the number.

He couldn't remember the code and the alarm went off.

She proclaimed YOU DON'T REMEMBER OUR ANNIVERSARY!

Keeping Up is a great show, among the several I must add to my growing collection, of course there's quite a few episodes of it!
I agee that the BritComs are superior to the american comedies, seems like quite a cultural divide between the two in terms of geneal approach to comedy, although there's some good cartoons over here like The Simpsons and Family guy.
