I think these types of shows are very depressing on TV

Dateline-NBC
CSI-CBS
Law and Order-NBC
Trauma in the ER-TLC

Nothing is entertaining about these shows. I like to be entertained.

They show dead bodies on CSI and Law Order right? Of course not real dead bodies but that type of program doesn't interest me.

They're two of my faves and I always enjoy them. Neither has ever depressed me. Sometimes I wish "CSI" wouldn't be so graphic with their simulations, e.g. showing the bullet's path through the body, but that just grosses me out; it doesn't depress me.

The idea doesn't appeal to me that much, so unless I stumble across it and find it interesting, I don't watch. But I only find it boring, not depressing. I don't actually get depressed much anyway, even when I have something to be depressed about.

I've never watched Trauma in the ER but I love both CSI and all of the Law and Orders. If Dateline has an interesting story I will watch it.

I dont find much about TV depressing. IT's a great escape.

I LOVE CSI yes its a bit graphic and can gross me out sometimes but its a good show (and it doesnt help that in the fall I come in during the second half... because I watch Will and Grace at 9:00..... which is when they show the recreation gross stuff)
and I saw Law and Order SVU once well because Erik was in it

I don't watch any of the particular shows listed, but that's just because I don't watch much current network programming at all.

Dateline... isn't that a news-related program? All news programming is depressing... and TRUE. That depresses me.

But programs where the officials are investigating a crime or trying to save lives (i.e. police/detective/lawyer/doctor), do not generally depress me. Yes they involve suffering, and that topic is depressing, but the shows themselves are about alleviating future suffering. If the story is done well they are frequently interesting programs. For me, if it's interesting that overbalances the depressing aspects.

My current favorite program is "24" on FOX. Now that program is violent and depressing, but it is so well done that I do find it entertaining.

I love CSI! It can gross me out, but it never depresses me. I like trying to solve the problem while it goes along. The only stuff on TV I find depressing is Discovery Channel!

Trauma in the E/R comes on tomorrow at 8pm on the Learning Channel. Dealing with individuals getting rushed to the Emergency room. What kind of TV program is that?

it helps people learn about how things are done in an ER.

You can't learn anything from looking at a show like that.

Broaden your imagination. Those shows are interesting because of their realism.

Well you don't seem to learn anything no matter what, so that's pretty irrelevant.

I agree with Jeff...you can learn a lot.

I don't watch CSI or L&O, but not because they are "depressing" to me. I just never have given them a shot. I watch all the news shows though--Dateline, 20/20, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes (if it is interesting that day), and PrimeTime.

I rarely watch that Trama in the ER. But I watch other medical shows on channels like TLC and Discovery Health.

And then I watch ER on NBC. And Boomtown.

Shows like those don't depress me.

I know. That show can be gruesome at times but I like it. CSI isn't depressing at all. Trauma in the ER isn't depressing but it just grosses me out. Law & Order CAN be depressing if a suspect walks or doesn't get convicted. That is a reality in this world and that is what can make it depressing. I don't know about Dateline because I haven't seen any episodes of it.

Dateline (F) - A snooze-fest reality magazine that picks the worst possible topics, and of course, ratings-grabber. Dull and lifeless.

ER (F) - A headache drama in all of the worst possible ways, this show needs to lighten up!

CSI (F) - A ripoff of the brilliant "Law & Order" in all of the wrong ways. Slick directing is wasted on moronic shock nudity and sex plots.

Law & Order (A-) - One of the last quality non-Star Trek dramas left, this one is good, although a tad dark at times. (***TV All-Star***)

And, I don't watch anything on TLC.
