Is anyone else annoyed by N@N's ads for Cheers during the end credits scenes? We see some of the scene, then the Cheers ad with audio comes on and blocks out some of the dialogue. It's like the programmers at N@N don't know the episode doesn't have the standard credits.

Definitely. Especially the other night when Lowell and Bevo were discussing the pillow... I couldn't hear what Lowell was saying! Arrgh.

And boy those clever little voice overs they do to introduce the Cheers episode are SO necessary!

To be fair to NICK (and you KNOW that I don't stick up for THEM unless it's absolutely necessary), that idea of putting an additional scene over the closing credits (instead of the music and flying plane) was pretty stupid on the part of the "Wings" producers.

It's common knowledge and almost a tradition that the closing credits are "fair game" for voice-over plugs....it's done all the time on the major networks during first-run shows, which leads me to believe that those closing credit scenes on "Wings" were probably talked-over the first time they were shown on NBC!

I hate having that closing credit dialogue talked over too, but it really shouldn't have been there in the first place (they probably should have just left the music there)....I'm sure that NICK is not the first network or station to interrupt that dialogue with voice-over plugs.

Actually Pilotguy, those credits were never talked over when the show was originally run on NBC. It wasn't just Wings, but several NBC shows at the time that adopted the style at the time, including Friends and Frasier. Frasier just had the short scene that has no dialogue while Kelsey sang the theme (just like they do now) but NBC never cut into or interupted these ending credits.

However, you are correct that once a show went into syndication all bets were off and whoever owned the rights to the shows would do what they want.

As for the ending credits, USA didn't have any voice overs or split screen endings for "Wings." Although, I never really did mind the voice-overs as much. The split screen is rude. Even if it is just the music, after a good (or even bad) episode, I enjoy wrapping the episode up with some good music. And N@N deprives me of that.

NewsRadio had a few ending title scenes during it's run. A&E would rerun the show and they had voice-overs during the ending credits with just the music. But when there was an actual scene, A&E had the courtesy of shutting up.

I like the scene during the end credits, I just wish N@N would pay attention and realize that there is a scene there when they do that. I bet if it was Cosby they wouldn't do that, or Cheers either if they had originally done that.
Also they didnt do this with Wings till the later seasons did they? I can't remember them doing it in the early seasons, correct me if I'm wrong :)

No, that's correct Topanga, they didn't start doing it until season 6 (which is the season Nick is running now)

I'll just gripe about this one last time, because I taped last nights episode (The Spark and How to Get It) and I loved Brian's image of himself trying to pick up women at the Club Car when he was 60. But thanks to Nick I didn't get to hear any of Steven Weber's lines at the end as the credits rolled. It's been years since that episode was on NBC, but I do remember getting a good laugh out of that. And NBC would not have bothered giving him lines to say at the end if they didn't intend to have the viewers see it. You always saw all of the fooage and heard all the footage when the show ran on NBC. But again, Nick could care less.

I wonder why it is so important to Nick to put on those intros to the Cheers episodes, yet they don't do that for Wings right before it comes on? Just doesn't seem fair in my biased world of Wings.

I agree! I don't see them doing it for Wings. Heaven forbid they have to promote Wings :mad:
I know that episode you mentioned and the one with the pillow, I wanted to know what they were saying. I wish I had grabbed my remote so I could turn on the close captioning, but then again, I probably would have gotten the announcer's words not the Brian and Lowell ones.
I don't think they need to promote Cheers after Wings, we know it's on after Wings, geesh N@N!:mad:

N@N did run two ads for Wings after the marathon and a little while after the show was banished to 1 a.m.. The one that said renting in Nantucket costs $10,000 and the one about Helen and her problems. N@N should put Wings on earlier and make more of these ads. Also, they should make a Cheers ad where it says Cheers is on at 10, 10:30, and 1:30. Then run that right before Wings comes back from it's last break.
