No, it's not the best show ever. It's certainly one of the best sit coms though.

I agree with Mickey. It's not the best show ever (that would be a rather hard conclusion to make and would rely too much on opinion), but it is a top ranker.

Gotta disagree there, dawsongirl. It's not a hard conclusion, and it doesn't rely on personal opinion - naming the best TV show ever is easy. It's The A-Team. No contest.

Gonna have to go and watch it now. :)

I think its one of the best sitcoms ever made (and certainly one of the most originals, if not THE most......)

A TEAM?! OH MY GOSH! It's definitely "I Love Lucy"...hands down. The ratings and the fact that it has been on the air for over 50 years proves that!

Every time Mickey mentions the A team as if it were a good program, i'm reminded of Mrs Mcgillicuddy's reaction to Lucy telling her Ricky was being groomed to be the next Valentino! LOL! The TV Hall of Fame has only inducted ONE television show into it's TV HALL of FAME, and that show is I Love Lucy, and yes someone else was right, 50 years of being shown all over the world proves that it wasthe BEST ever, besides Mickey dear, remember who produced it and the First Lady of Television starred in it also!

Splain dear, the reason the A-Team isn't still being shown fifty years after it was made is that it hasn't been around for fifty years yet! Give it time, give it time. Fun cast, terrific chemistry, daft plots - I can't understand why you don't like it more - those are half the reasons everybody claims to be an ILL fan!

And there are plenty of A-Team tributes, and conventions, and get togethers and the like. And, sadly, attempts at remakes. Still, all you Philistines who don't like the show - it's probably too late to convert you now!

Emergency!
Quincy M.E.

I think it's a matter of personal opinion, if it has what you're looking for in a quality sitcom and you enjoy watching it, than it's for you decide if it is one of the best sitcoms.

IMO, I Love Lucy is one of the best sitcoms that I've seen. One of the highlights of this show is it's physical comedy, if you think about it some of the best episodes deal with physical comedy, and that's how this show attracts and captivates it's audiences.

Considering some of her choices, i thought she loved the OTHER kind of COKE! LOL! Hey, is it true MacGuyver could stop a nuclear device from going off with just a rubber band? If so, you're right, that does sound a lot like a LUCY plot! I actually watched the show a few times, but the A Team, i thought you had to be a wrestling fan to watch that. Just joking now!

Mickey

To be fair to MacGyver, the science stuff he did was checked out by experts, so that everything he did/built/mixed up/made flashy things out of, was entirely possible. At least that was the way it was in the first few seasons! Don't know about later. But yeah, he could probably have stopped a nuclear bomb with an elastic band. Sounds like the kind of guy Kiefer Sutherland could do with over on 24...

And in order to enjoy The A-Team, you just have to have taste!

No, it was poor old Face that kept getting chucked in swimming pools. And they threw Murdock in the sea at least once. I think there was a scene where Hulk Hogan and BA were seeing who was the best wrestler, and the loser of that was going to go in the drink, but I don't remember what happened then! Strangely enough, though, most TV shows do try rather hard not to drown their lead actors...

Splain now wishes he'd never asked the question... :)

IT IS THE BEST! To last 50 years and still be going strong. To be the ONLY TV show inducted into the TV Hall of Fame. To still be playing around the world, and entertaining generation after generation, it looks it's going to be around forever, we'll be gone, but the show will still be going strong!

Mickey

MacGyver?! You don't watch much TV, do ya Splain. :)

Richard Dean Anderson is the star of Stargate, a rather good sci-fi show slightly reminiscent of Voyagers! or Time Tunnel. He and a gang of not half so cool as he is associates jump into a big whirly hole every week and get transported to an alien planet somewhere, where they have adventures. RDA invariably then gets captured/shot/tortured or combinations of all three, there's lots of shiny crackly laser gun FX, and then they all go home again triumphant. Given the format it could run and run, but I doubt they'll go on once he's got really old. Mind you, since he's the producer it could go on forever. There are occasional recurring bad guys whose name everybody pronounces differently, (though sadly Peter Wingfield seems to have stopped guesting as one of them), and a million planets still to be visited, and all looking suspiciously like parts of Canada.

Kinda daft, but fun, like most of the best TV.

The short answer to the question "Is I Love Lucy the best show ever?" is yes....

The long answer to the question "Is I Love Lucy the best show ever?" is ALSO yes....but it would take too long to 'splain..

Lucy, Ricky, Ethel and Fred were the John, Paul, George and Ringo of television casts...

I think that there are probably 50 episodes of Seinfeld that were as good as anything I Love Lucy ever did, however, Seinfeld did have a number of below average episodes...and even though Seinfeld was on for 9 years and I.L.Lucy for basically 5 years, they both made about the same # of episodes (about 180)...
heck, I'll do a little research...

I.L.L. made 179 episodes, Seinfeld made 170...

The Dick Van Dyke show was the other show that I would say came closest to being "perfect", with no really bad episodes...

Of course, these are just my opinions, but y'all are more than welcome to accept them as immutable facts!

Plus, comparing sitcoms to drama shows is an apples and oranges thing...

But I Love Lucy has certainly stood the test of time.

Wow how can ya not like the Beatles? "Yesterdayyyyy all my troubles seemed so far away!!".

:) I'm not saying I don't like the Beatles' songs. (Although slow ones like that I don't tend to like much) - it's just that I'm sick of them. When I was at school (two hundred years ago) people used to laugh at me for saying that I was a Beatles fan. Now they've become fashionable - and they're everywhere. People rave about them 24/7. They were the first to do what they did, and that's impressive and worthy of respect - it doesn't make them next in line for deification! Their most famous songs aren't even all that good, musically speaking! I just get so bored with all the magazine articles, the people talking about them on every music show, their songs being played all the time!

Oh and dawsongirl, I said McCartney hadn't done a decent song in twenty years - Live And Let Die was thirty years ago. And the Guns 'n' Roses version was better anyway! :)

PS - Couldn't make out who that was in the picture you attached to your comment about the Dick van Dyke show. Who is it?
