For those that did not know it, the editing of content on "Sanford and Son" was not so prevalent the first time the show ran on TV Land. Case in point: I watched a tape of "Mamma's Baby, Pappa's Maybe" from the first time the show was on TV Land. In the scene where Fred tells Esther what Grip claims about Lamont, Esther says "What did you say ni*!" But now when the episode runs, the "n" word is changed to "sucker." I wish they would leave things the way they were originally intended.

I don't understand why they edit it. It's a tv show, it's entertainment. Now I hate the n word in real life. I think it's an awful word to use, imo. However, when they say it on the show, it's supposed to be humor. Of course, if a person can sue for getting burned by HOT coffee, I suppose TVL just wants to get out those extra things that might cause lawsuits. Don't laugh. I can just picture someone getting all in a huff because they heard the n word on a tv show. I can picture someone suing for something like that. If a person can sue because eating candy bars made them fat, anything is possible.

I just looked at my UPN version of that episode and the n-word was not cut out when Esther stood up off the couch. UPN kept it in.
