View Full Version : Which 5 Sitcoms Do You Feel.... GrapeJelly 06-11-2003, 01:05 AM have honestly earned the term "tv classic"? dawsongirl 06-11-2003, 01:09 AM I Love Lucy All in the Family Happy Days M*A*S*H The Andy Griffith Show Impressions 06-11-2003, 12:05 PM I Love Lucy The Dick Van Dyke Show Bewitched The Brady Bunch All in the Family Penny Lane 06-11-2003, 12:35 PM I Love Lucy Leave It To Beaver The Honeymooners All In The Family Bewitched dlemond 06-11-2003, 01:13 PM Five plus one: The Honeymooners I Love Lucy All In The Family MASH Cheers plus Seinfeld. mcgwirefan 06-11-2003, 01:24 PM #1 Forever is Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet; 435 episodes and 14 years on TV plus radio before that. Leave it to Beaver My Three Sons Bewtiched All in the Family James 06-11-2003, 02:15 PM The Brady Bunch Family Matters Leave It To Beaver Perfect Strangers The Wonder Years (Even though it was more of a drama, it still had its funny elements, especially Wayne!) I'd list more, but I was only asked for five. *PinkLady* 06-11-2003, 03:53 PM I Love Lucy Cheers M*A*S*H Happy Days Friends (much as I hate to admit it...) BLT 06-11-2003, 04:02 PM do you mean any five shows (including ones that are already considered classic like "I Love Lucy") or do you mean five relatively recent shows that aren't considered classic at the moment? benjamoon 06-11-2003, 09:04 PM I Love Lucy All in the Family The Honeymooners The Dick Van Dyke Show The Andy Griffith Show I don't even like all those shows but they deserve that title Close are: Mary Tyler Moore, M*A*S*H, Cheers, and Bewitched Titania 06-11-2003, 09:43 PM I Love Lucy Dick Van Dyke Show Mary Tyler Moore Show All in the Family Happy Days Crimson and Clover 06-11-2003, 11:16 PM I Love Lucy Leave It To Beaver All In The Family Bewitched Happy Days LucyFan 06-12-2003, 12:12 AM "I Love Lucy" (most definitely!) "The Brady Bunch" "Laverne & Shirley" "The Lucy Show" "The Munsters" Sitcomwriter 06-12-2003, 01:07 AM Seinfeld (A No-Brainer) The Larry Sanders Show (It's a great show!) Cheers (Pretty much a no-brainer) Mash (although I hate it) The Cosby Show (although many like myself are sick of it) SBTB Geek 06-12-2003, 01:16 AM In my opinion these are the only sitcoms who should have the right to be called "classic:" I Love Lucy All In The Family Bewitched I Dream of Jeannie M*A*S*H The Brady Bunch Friends Seinfeld cheers freak 06-13-2003, 12:16 PM Cheers All in the Family Seinfeld The Golden Girls M*A*S*H I love Lucy Im not a big fan of I love Lucy but it IS a classic! Also great pick for the Larry Sanders Show Sitcomwriter, thats a good show! DianeChambers87 06-13-2003, 01:10 PM Cheers I love lucy Taxi Happy Days (although I hate to admit it) Three's Company (although I also hate to admit it) Tweety 06-17-2003, 10:44 PM Wow...a lot of great choices out there... Since it's truly impossible to pick the 5 best and most classic shows of all time, I'll throw a few others into the mix... I don't think these have been mentioned yet... Get Smart The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show Hogan's Heroes The Odd Couple Green Acres Beverly Hillbilies ooops, that's six... If I had to pick my top 5 favorites, they would probably be: I Love Lucy (which had no bad episodes) Seinfeld (which had a few sub-par episodes, but the best episodes were so great, they more than made up for it) The Dick Van Dyke Show (again, never made a bad episode) Green Acres (comedy was far, far ahead of it's time) The Honeymooners (just the classic 39...which were indeed, all classics) Close behind would be Leave It To Beaver Happy Days went on far too long, IMHO All in the Family was great for 2-3 years, but then went downhill quickly...the whole premise of the show was lost when Mike and Gloria moved next door... (in fact, the premise was lost when Mike got a job in the first place) I'm appreciating MASH more now (my wife loves that show) than I did when it was on...I got tired of it during it's original run...the show started when I was in Jr. High, and ended after I was out of college! WOW It's not on where we are, but we're buying the DVDs... The Cosby Show, got sick of that after about 3 seasons...went on way too long... I love the Brady Bunch, I can still watch MOST of their episodes (the eps I can't watch any more are the vacations to Grand Canyon and Hawaii, the pilot episode, and Great Grandma Hutchins meets Great Grandpa Brady, along with a couple of others, like the Davey Jones ep)...but I love Marcia and Jan :happyface Never liked Laverne and Shirley, although I thought Cindy Williams was very cute Always liked My Three Sons, particularly when Katie was added to the cast :) Cheers was great! I like I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, and the Munsters...I like Andy Griffith, but not 15 times a day (are you listening, TV Land?) As I said earlier, it's tough to narrow it down to 5 shows, or even 10...or 20... Dude111 07-17-2026, 12:43 AM All in the Family Happy Days The Brady Bunch The Andy Griffith Show Bewitched Bonniegirl 07-17-2026, 01:59 AM I Love Lucy Gilligan's Island Brady Bunch Friends Sanford & Son Alan Brady's Hair 07-17-2026, 05:11 AM The question was five for fifty years of sitcoms. Here's seven for seventy years: I Love Lucy The Beverly Hillbillies All in the Family Laverne &:Shirley The Cosby Show Seinfeld The Big Bang Theory These are the only seven sitcoms that finished #1 in the annual Nielsen ratings two or more times Dude111 07-17-2026, 07:25 AM No surprise All in the family did! Stupid Gloria and Mike wanted to move for his job! (He could have gotton 1 there in NYC) Bonniegirl 07-17-2026, 12:17 PM I Love Lucy Gilligan's Island Brady Bunch Friends Sanford & Son How could I forget Leave it to Beaver? tlc38tlc38 07-17-2026, 06:07 PM My personal top-5 sitcoms that I consider classics. The Beverly Hillbillies Bonniegirl 07-18-2026, 02:50 AM My personal top-5 sitcoms that I consider classics. Some would disagree with this but that’s okay. 1. I Love Lucy 2. Mama’s Family 3. The Golden Girls 4. Green Acres 5. The Beverly Hillbillies Yes ! Green Acres & Petticoat Junction too. Both classics to me ! :) AMackII 07-19-2026, 11:21 PM The Brady Bunch Happy Days All in the Family The Golden Girls Threes Company biffbronson 07-20-2026, 11:44 AM Here are 2 that I want to go with: I Love Lucy is the 1st one that came to mind for me. The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet: great longevity, and pioneered the "family sitcom" genre for TV (after it was established in radio). ThisLittlePiggy 07-20-2026, 04:56 PM The Andy Griffith Show I Love Lucy The Honeymooners All in the Family Seinfeld +1 The Golden Girls stevea 07-20-2026, 05:51 PM Too hard to narrow it down to 5. It would be easier to do it by decade, or maybe 20 years--nearly a generation. |
