I have a technical question.

On my one set of dubbing VCR's the VCR that I play on I cannot get to show me a display of speed, tape time, etc. Like on my other VCR's when I press display on the remote it shows me how much tape is used, how much is left, what speed, etc. On this one I can't seem to get the display to show and I'm really frustrated. I need to switch the speed from SP to SLP (taping something for my mother) and I cannot see when I press display to see if the speed has switched. I cannot seem to get it turned off of SP. The VCR is a Sanyo is that means anything.

I had a really hard time connecting the VCR's together, getting the picture and stuff to work so I'm hesitant to unhook them.

Help anyone?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I have a Sanyo, too. My remote has a button on it that says SP/SLP. I'm sure yours is different, though. I hope you figure it out soon. Computers and electronics can give me a headache, that's for sure.

Yeah my remote has the SP/SLP button but when I click on it it will not turn off of SP and I can't see the numbers/letters to tell me if it's even working. :(

I'm really flustered.

Could you just experiment with a junkie tape and see how much tape is used over a half hour? Hopefully the slp option is still working anyway. :(

Sorry I didn't read the entire post, but maybe go into your VCR's menu screen, preferences and or settings, and sometimes you can manually change the sp/slp setting there. One of my VCRs has that option. But for the most part, usually the remote has it...

Oh, I bought a new sanyo two weeks a go, and for display (like how much space is left on the tape) will not show up, it just doesn't have that. Hope that helps too.

Oh, I bought a new sanyo two weeks a go, and for display (like how much space is left on the tape) will not show up, it just doesn't have that. Hope that helps too.

But see I KNOW it has that feature because when it was my playing VCR (it's now the recording since I got a new VCR) it worked. I can't get the disply of anything to show on the screen. I cannot get a menu to display or anything. All I wnat to do is figure out how I can get the freaking display to show :confused: I'm about to just buy a new freaking VCR because I'm so irritated by this.

That is definately strange. I wish I could help more, but I just have no idea :(

This may sound dumb, but does your remote work alright? check the batteries.

Yes the remote works, I can record, stop, rewind, etc with it. I just can't get the fricken thing to turn to SLP. :mad:

Damn. I've been racking my brain for a while and just cannot come up with anything. If you want to spend the money, that new VCR sounds better by the minute, lol. at least you'd have that extra one lying around. I have 3 freaking VCRs and only one works, my brand new one. The other two are crap. One records (in SLP; SP works great) with green lines on the picture and the other one, half of the time the sound is distorted. I know I've worn them out... lol, but at least I can still copy tapes, because they both play great, just recording they suck.

Time for a new VCR, they run $49.99 at Best BUy

No I dont need a new VCR I have my hookups wrong and I cannot figure out what's going on and why I can't fix them. I've hooked up tons of VCR's with no problems and this new VCR I got has just royally screwed me up.

I moved all of my VCR's around this morning and I STILL can't get the newest VCR there to show me an onscreen display. We had a really bad thunderstorm last night that knocked my power out and now I can't even get the recording VCR to record and since I can't see the freaking display I can't tell if my input is on or not.

My top, playing VCR has the red/white/yellow cords on VCR out Line 1. The cord to the TV is connected from Out to TV into the TV. There is NO CABLE on this Tv. I use it strictly for taping. My recording VCR has the yellow and white cables on VCR In. BOTH VCR's are on channel 3 as is the TV.

Can someone PLEASE offer me some help here? I cant' have just 1 VCR for taping, I have to be able to tape on both VCR's. IT worked before but I've frustrated myself to the point of tears on this one.

Does the new VCR have a "Line" or "Aux" channel? You mentioned the new VCR is connected on "In," which is fine. The playing VCR should work no matter what channel you have it set on. The recording VCR needs to be tuned to whatever channel (usually "Aux" now) the "In" is set to. My newer recording VCR has two connections, "Aux 1" & "Aux 2," my playing VCR is connected through "Aux 2."

Also, when you turn the new VCR on, does it automatically go to the VCR, or does it remain on the TV? I have an older VCR that when I turn the power on, I also have to hit the "TV/VCR" button because it doesn't go right to the VCR.

Does the new VCR show its "Menu" screen? It shows what ever tape you're playing on the other VCR, right? I'm sure you've checked it, but does the manual say anything about the Display/how to change the speed? There is the possibility there could be something wrong with the VCR's display (but having numerous VCRs myself, I know you don't want to hear there's something wrong with the new one).

What does the back pannel of your new VCR consist of (& does it have the jacks in the front panel, too)?

I've dealt with easily a half dozen VCRs that have been all different (& some initially a pain in the butt when new). I'm just trying to get an idea of your set up compared to mine.

Buy a new VCR just because of a display problem Solomon? No offense to anyone, but my VCR is still having mechanical problems but I'm not about to go whip out 50 bucks for a new one...which tend to be the lower quality models at WalMart...Emerson, Orion, they're all avoidable. You want a good VCR you're still going to be paying $70-90...

I would say that is true for a goood vcr. 70-90 dollars. I would pay 90 or more.
