I know that Hugh and Barbara were both married to other people in real life but they seemed to have a very strong chemistry with each other on the screen,at least I see it. Does anyone think they had something going on off screen? This to me is not a silly question. They did spend alot of time working together. Just curious of what others think.

I guess it's possible that they were very good friends and were extremely comfortable working together but I swear I pick up some incredibly strong vibes!:D LOL!!

They were a good couple onscreen but I don't think there was anything going on between them offscreen. From what I've read the whole cast got along very well together.

I tend to think we would have heard something by now if they were getting it on off the set. That's why they call it acting. I do feel, though, that there was a lot of good will on the set, and that they all were fond of each other.

Yep, that's why they call it acting. Sam and Diane were on fire on Cheers. The chemistry was undeniable, yet Ted Danson and Shelley Long didn't care for one another off the set.
They didn't hate each other, yet from all accounts I've read, it was frosty between them.
There's really no saying why some couples connect onscreen while others do not.

Hugh Beaumont and Barbara Billingsley did not hit it off right away, but became close friends and remained friends until Hugh's death. There was nothing more to their relationship than that. Both Hugh and Barbara were excellent in their roles on LITB.
