The name "Ozzy" was given to him by some of his English school friends. In 1962 Ozzy joined a band called the "Black Panthers", then he proceeded thru a series of other small bands before joining "Earth" in 1968. This band consisted of Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler. The band found out that there was another band with the same name as "Earth", so they had to change it. They chose "Black Sabbath" after a Boris Karloff movie (1935). Black Sabbath went on to produce 8 albums with Ozzy. During all these years Ozzy rarely showed up for practice and was basically stoned all the time. Drugs were taking over Ozzy's life and causing conflicts with the other members. The band decided to fire Ozzy and in his place, Ronnie James Dio joined. After this Ozzy's friend Sharon suggested he start up his own band, and so with Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslak, the band "Ozzy Osbourne" was formed. In 1982 the band was on their way to a show in Florida and the bus stopped for some repairs. The bus driver had a plane where they had stopped and invited some of them for a ride. The plane landed and then the driver took Randy and Ozzy's seamstress Rachel Youngblood for a ride. The driver was on coke and he drove the plane to the ground purposely trying to hit his ex-wife who was standing outside the bus. The plane crashed and exploded killing both Randy and Rachel. Ozzy and Sharon eventually married in 1982 and Brad Gillis joined the band but only shortly. The next member to join was Jake E. Lee. In 1983 "Bark at the Moon" was released and the band goes thru some member changes. Ozzy and Sharon also have their first child, Aimee Rachel. In 1984 Ozzy is admitted to the Betty Ford clinic for alcohol and drugs and Sharon gives birth to their second child, Kelly, and a year later they have a son named Jack. In 1986 "The Ultimate Sin" is released and Ozzy is sued by the parents of a boy who committed suicide, claiming that he was listening to "Suicide Solution" which they believed had subliminal messages that encouraged suicide. The Supreme court ruled that Ozzy was protected by the first amendment and that no lawsuits could be filed based on these claims. In 1987 "Randy Rhoads Tribute" is released, and "No rest for the Wicked" in 1988. During 1991 "No More Tears" was released and Ozzy wins a grammy award. In 1992 Ozzy announces the retirement tour saying that this would be his last tour. In the same year Black Sabbath is honored with a star at the rock walk in Hollywood. 1994 Ozzy takes home a grammy for "Best Metal Performance". In 1995 after a short retirement Ozzy announces that he's back and "Ozzmosis" is released. In 1996 Ozzy starts up "Ozzfest" and there are some more band changes. In 1997 "Ozzman Cometh" is released, and he teams up with Marilyn Manson on the Ozzfest tour and the N.J. Giants stadium cancels because of Manson. Ozzy takes them to court and wins. In 1983 the owner of Metal Blade Records saw them play and they made an offer to play a song (Aggressive Perfector) on a compilation album called Metal Massacre III in exchange for helping them to put out their own album. Show No Mercy proved to be a masterpiece by Metal fans and magazines. Haunting the Chapel was an EP and one song called "Chemical Warfare" is said to be the fastest song ever recorded. The music Slayer produced was heavy and fast and the lyrics had dark and satanic tones. Their Hell Awaits album sold over 100,000 copies in the US and many were beginning to notice the band. Rick Reuben of Def Jam records approached the band and they were the first metal band on that label. In 86 Reign In Blood came out and proved to be even faster, and became their first gold album, and is still considered the fastest speed metal album. It also made headlines because of the lyrics of "Angel Of Death" and the Nazi logos the band used. South of Heaven was slower and the lyrics consisted of Nazism, war, abortion, etc. They were still with Def Jam and were touring and keeping busy. Seasons in the Abyss was released and showed heavier music and lyrically consisted of war, serial killers, and fantasy related songs. This was their biggest selling album to date (1,000,000 copies). In 1992 fans were shocked when Lombardo was kicked out of the band for various problems with band members. Paul Bostaph was hired in his place and Slayer disappeared for awhile before releasing Divine Intervention, another fast and heavy album. During this time some controversy started over fans slicing themselves and scarring their arms and backs with the bands name. They said it was for dedication and loyalty to Slayer. Paul Bostaph ended up leaving the band and a guy named Jon Dette was hired. Slayer wanted to experiment with some punkish styles on the next album, Undisputed Attitude. Queen was known for heavy metal, glam rock and camp theatrics with a sound of layered guitars and overdubbed vocals. The group was grounded in 1971 when Brian May (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums) quitted Smile and formed a new group with Freddie Mercury (vocals and piano). A few months later John Deacon (bass) completed the line-up. Over the next two years all four members completed college. In 1973 they began to concentrate on their career. The first album "Queen" was released and the band set out her first tour. The next album "Queen II" unexpectedly became their breakthrough in 1974 after a successful gig at "Top of the Pops". Before the end of 1974 Queen's third album "Sheer Heart Attack" was released and "Killer Queen" climbed to number two on the British charts. Their fourth album "A Night at the Opera" (1975) was the most expensive rock record ever made at the time of its release, but their hard work paid off. The first single "Bohemian Rhapsody" took three weeks to record and consisted of many overdubs. The song became their greatest hit and was accompanied by one of the first conceptual music videos. Queen became a legend in rock music and continued to work at a fast rate. "A Day at the Races" (1976), "News of the World" (1977), "Jazz" (1978), "Live Killers" (1979), "The Game" (1980), "Flash Gorden" (1980) and "Hot Space" (1982) were successful albums. During the 80s Queen's popularity decreased in the US, but the group began touring foreign markets in Latin America, Asia and Africa and a new album was released: "The Works (1984). In 1985 Queen played successful at the charity concert "Live Aid". At the end of the 80s sales dropped for Queen in the US. In Europe their albums "A Kind of Magic" (1986), "Live Magic" (1986) and "The Miracle" were sold reasonably well. By 1991 the group scaled down its activity and rumors circulated about Freddie Mercury's health. The album "Innuendo" (1991) was more successful than former records. In November Mercury issued a statement confirming that he had AIDS. Two days later the flamboyant singer was dead. A memorial concert at Wembley Stadium, which was broadcast to an international audience featured artists as Elton John, David Bowie, Liza Minelli and George Michael in April 1992 meant a farewell to Queen. In 1995 "Made in Heaven" was released. The album featured Mercury's pre-recorded vocals with a background of the group's living members. Is there anyone home? Come on, now. I hear you're feeling down. Well I can ease your pain, Get you on your feet again. Relax. I need some information first. Just the basic facts: Can you show me where it hurts? There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'. When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons. Now I got that feeling once again. I can't explain, you would not understand. This is not how I am. I have become comfortably numb. Ok. Just a little pinprick. There'll be no more --Aaaaaahhhhh! But you may feel a little sick. Can you stand up? I do believe it's working. Good. That'll keep you going for the show. Come on it's time to go. There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'. When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown, the dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb. hollylove 06-05-2003, 10:21 PM ZZ Top Eliminator (1983) Gimme All Your Lovin I got to have a shot of what you got is oh so sweet. This is one of the earliest thrash metal bands. Kirk Hammett was part of the very first line-up although he left before any albums were recorded. Exodus made some good albums over the years but failed to match the commercial bands. They are still around and in 1997 recorded a live album. The current line-up is Paul Baloff, Rick Hunolt, Gary Holt, Jack Gibson, and Tom Hunting. Actually, Paul Baloff died last year of a stroke. Steve Sousa replaced him in the mid-80's. hollylove 06-05-2003, 11:19 PM thanks for the update ,,,,,:( ;) thats sad,but you hardly ever hear what happens to them,, hollylove 06-05-2003, 11:25 PM something i found on exodus Good friendly violent fun? Yeah, the perfect call to arms for Exodus. The band was good, very ****ing good. Friendly? Most of the time, as long as you weren't a poseur. The violence is unquestionable. And it is fun, head banging, stage diving, mosh inducing Thrash till death fun. Thrash fans will recognise the opening line as a lyric from "The Toxic Waltz", Exodus' tribute to their fans, back from the days when a mosh pit was a swirling maelstrom of bodies colliding chaotically in a ballet of controlled aggression. (OK, so "ballet" may not be the most appropriate word, but it beats the "Simon says jump up and down on the spot" deal which passes for moshing now.) If you can imagine the pit, it is the perfect visual representation of Exodus' music. While many rave about Exodus' incendiary debut 'Bonded By Blood' as being their finest hour, I far prefer 'Fabulous Disaster'. This album shows the band at the peak of their powers. They had perfected their own distinctive sound. **** Hanneman and King, Gary Holt and Rick Hunolt were the perfect Thrash guitar duo. Their guitar tone here borders on Death Metal at times, using dual rhythm and dual leads to amazing effect at times. At times, it is so heavy as to be percussive. Check the title track, "The Toxic Waltz" and the unlisted cover of AC/DC's "Overdose" for evidence. That's not to say all the band could do was heavy. Far from it. There is a cover of "Low Rider", a little out of place, but far superior to the mangling Korn gave it. "Cajun Hell" is a real surprise. It starts with a zydeco flavoured introduction, and mixes a little Southern boogie with crushing metal, in a style Down would be proud of. However, swamp rock isn't what you listen to Exodus for primarily. No, heads down, heavy duty Thrash is the main reason for listening to Exodus. It is here by the truckload. Basically, any track here will have you banging your head and shouting along with Steve Souza. You get Hardcore style massed backing vocals, lyrics ranging from political satire to social comment, to silly metal fun. There have always been two songs on this album I have never liked. Musically, there is nothing wrong with them, it is the lyrics, and it is not necessarily a bad thing either. "The Last Act Of Defiance" and "Like Father, Like Son" are both incredibly dark, violent songs, one about a prison riot, the other about child abuse. Imagining the carnage described on the first track and Souza screaming "please Daddy, no more!" on the second have always chilled me to the bone. Powerful. hollylove 06-05-2003, 11:27 PM Exodus was one of the first thrash metal bands to appear in the San Francisco Bay Area in the US together with other great names like Metallica, Megadeth, Heathen etc. The band was originally formed in 1981 but broke up in 1992 to once again reform in 1997. They signed a record deal with Torrid Records in 1984 but because of company problems their debut wasn't released until 1985 by Combat Records. The vocalist Paul Baloff died of a massive stroke in early 2002 but the remaining members are still keeping the band alive. hollylove 06-06-2003, 12:57 PM if anyone has some bands to add, please feel free to do so,,,;) hollylove 06-06-2003, 07:54 PM anyone  ABlairican Pie 06-06-2003, 10:11 PM Originally posted by hollylove anyone  I will...after I look through the whole list, which I haven't done yet...... hollylove 06-06-2003, 10:27 PM ok thanks hun,i thought you would know since you use eddie as your avatar,i use to draw him all the time, thanks for helping hun,;) |
