View Full Version : Why did Edith Give Louise Jefferson the Winning Lottery Ticket that she Paid For?
TVFactFan 06-04-2003, 06:15 PM I saw the episode this morning when Edith buys a lottery ticket for Louise with her money and wasn't going to split the Money when she found out it was a winning ticket. She was a REAL DINGBAT. Why wouldn't she think to split the winnings if she paid for the ticket? The winnings was $500 so the Bunkers and Jeffersons was supposed to split. Did the producers have to make Edith that STUPID? And at the end of the episode, She still gave Louise the ticket and the Jeffersons received a free $500 behind Edith's stupidity. I truly understood Archie's frustration. I'm sittin here still stunned at how a character could be so nuts to just give away a winning lottery ticket.
Janice 06-04-2003, 07:45 PM This episode is only ringing a vague bell for me, but didn't Edith pick up the lottery ticket for Louise as a favor, with no agreement to split if it was a winning ticket?

Well if it was , that part was cut out by UPN. But even f that was the case, Why would Edith agree to buy Louise a lottery ticket with her money as a favor? And no agreement to split if the ticket was awinner? I hope it's not a such thing as that.
Janice 06-04-2003, 08:01 PM Maybe someone remembers better than I do, but that's what I recall. It's not farfetched. She picked up a lottery ticket as a favor for Louise.
Personally, I would never do that. I don't give lottery tickets as gifts or anything like that. I'm not making anyone rich, thank you very much.
DarleneIllyria 06-04-2003, 08:46 PM I'm kind of tossing some of my thoughts out about lottery tickets. The same thing would happen to me if I gave tickets out as gifts. I'm the free ticket and 3 buck girl. I rarely win anything over 3 bucks. If I bought some tickets and gave them as a small gift, the person I give them to would win the big jackpot. I wouldn't even buy tickets for a person as a favor. The same thing would happen.

At first, I thought EDith bought the ticket with LOUISE"S money not her money. But Edith buys her a ticket with her money which is why Archie FLIPPED OUT-LOL.
Tweety 06-04-2003, 10:49 PM Actually, what happened was that Edith was apparently going to the store, and Louise asked her (by phone probably) to pick up a lottery ticket for her...
Edith agrees to do so, buys the ticket, puts it in her purse, and of course forgets all about it. Only after the ticket wins do we find out that Edith actually paid for it, because Louise never gave Edith her $2, and Edith never gave Louise the ticket...they BOTH forgot all about it.
I think that Edith felt bad about keeping the money, because she would never have bought the ticket in the first place unless Louise asked her to...so Edith only wanted to be reimbursed for the $2 of her own money she spent to buy the ticket for Louise.
Archie felt differently about it, as we all know...and the rest, as they say, is history...
That was a great episode, by the way...one of my favorites (even though Sherman Hemsley didn't play George Jefferson in that episode).

Yeah i wasn't to impressed with Henry Jefferson. But Edith still gave Louise a free $500 dollars_LOL And Louise never reimbursed EDith for paying for her ticket. She just gives the ticket away. I think Edith put the D in DINGBAT in this particular episode.

Since when has UPN aired AITF? This is news to me. If this is true what day and time does it air?
