View Full Version : Brian and Alex
pilotguy 05-31-2003, 08:13 PM Maybe it's just me...or do some of you have trouble accepting Brian and Alex as a romantic couple?
As individual characters they're fine, but I don't see a tough, no-nonsense gal like Alex going for a somewhat goofy guy like Brian....the chemistry just doesn't seem right (or believable).
Now Joe and Helen....THAT pairing is believable, but Brian and Alex?
So what do YOU think?
c5guy 05-31-2003, 09:18 PM I'm thinking "Pilotguy" & "Nantucket_Wings" would make a good couple!!! The names just sort of go together.... :rotflmao:

Uh-oh....Don't let my WIFE hear you say that!
My wife's fiestier than Helen Chappell, and I don't need her driving a jeep through my office!
Adamantium 05-31-2003, 09:53 PM Based on season four, I think Alex should have chosen Joe. There were many times I feel like Alex would just leave Brian for his wacky behavior.
losthighway 05-31-2003, 10:10 PM Pilotguy, it's too bad Nick decided to skip several of the episodes that helped build up the relationship between Alex and Brian. It's been several years since I've seen some of those episodes, but as I recall the progression of the relationship seemed pretty realistic.
And I liked the fact that Wings was real enough with how they handled relationships. I think all of us had had friends male or female, where we saw them getting involved with someone and saying to yourself, "how is this going to work, I can't see it lasting". And more often then not, it doesn't.
That is how I always viewed Brian and Alex. There was something there to create a sexual chemistry between the two of them, but nothing that was going to be everlasting. And of course that is exactly how it played out on the show....they weren't a couple for long.
HaskellGirl 05-31-2003, 10:40 PM I definately don't believe Alex and Brian as a couple. I guess temporarily its possible, but their personalities are not only so different, but they just don't have that chemistry. I agree with TVAdam that Joe and Alex is much more plausible.
This may be my imagination, but I have noticed a trend about Brian with women, that he usually goes for the dominant type. There's Carol, Alex, and in one episode, his old girlfriend shows up, and she controls things as well. When Joe's in a relationship, its usually equal or he's slightly more dominant, and when Brian's in a relationhip, its usually equal or he's slightly more submissive.
pilotguy 05-31-2003, 11:18 PM It's funny that some of you should mention Joe and Alex....because in Alex's early appearances (before she started dating Brian) I DID notice a certain chemistry between the two of them.
That chemistry was very different from the chemistry that Joe had with Helen, but it DID work.
I get the impression that even though Joe is a "wholesome nice guy", in his own way he can handle himself with tough Alex just fine....and she KNOWS it!
Joe and Alex had a lively (and frankly, quite sexy) "give-and-take rivalry" type of relationship, and Joe seems like less of a wimpy pushover than Brian does.
Yes, Joe and Alex as a romantic couple WOULD be believable for me...and it could have been quite interesting, even if it didn't last!
Krista2882 06-01-2003, 09:34 AM you know what? I was just thinking that I like Brian and Alex as a couple. I don't know- for me, it is believable. I think they do have some chemistry together. Not as much as there is between Joe and Helen, for example, but they do. I actually like Brian more when he's in a steady relationship, rather then when he's got 3 different dates in one day with 3 different women, and then forgets about one of them or something stupid like that. lol.
and something about Brian and Alex, in a mismatched way, they go together well, I think.
but anyway...
oh, and someone mentioned that Joe and Alex had more chemistry together, but it was different than the Joe/Helen chemistry. I do agree with that! I remember thinking the same thing in those early Alex episodes when there was more flirting going on between Joe and Alex... I thought they would go together well, and I saw a bit of chemistry there. But then when Brian and Alex got together, I really liked the two of them together.
and I'm rambling, so I'll stop now. hehe
