View Full Version : Why does everyone hate the Parent 'hood?
Sean12 05-30-2003, 10:21 PM I don't get why so many people think this show is so bad. I found it to be quite funny and entertaining, right up there with the Cosby Show. This show is a classic and it is a shame that it was taken off the air. This show is a lot better than a lot of the clap trap they have on TV these days. The only problem I found was that too many characters dissapeared without explanations. Either than that, I really liked this show and I think people should give it a chance before they write it off as a bad show. Please comment.
Adamantium 08-05-2003, 06:38 PM I don't hate the show. Well, I do hate those dream sequences Robert is always having. I've always found the show entertaining.
Sean12 08-07-2003, 05:26 PM Amen to that, brother! I couldn't wait for those stupid things to be over! They were a complete waste of time and weren't funny at all. I couldn't even force myself to laugh. I tape the Parent 'Hood, so I usually fast forward through those parts.
1GucciDiva 09-23-2003, 05:05 AM Because it's a LAME show! Robert got on my nerves when he started to daydream! It was NEVER funny, and Zoria lacked any REAL acting skills! She is pretty, but she's not a good actress at all!
Sean12 09-25-2003, 07:03 PM Why did it go on for 5 seasons then? Answer me that!

Obviously SOMEONE out there liked it! I AM entitled to MY opinion ya' know! So I thought the show was lame, and... you would be concerned about my opinion because ? So goodday to you :)!
Sean12 09-25-2003, 11:28 PM I don't understand how it lasted 5 seasons. It had awful rating probably because it kept changing times. It only got like a 2.1 rating usually. Someone must have really liked this show or Robert Townsend must have been good friends with someone to keep this great show on the air. Come on, you gotta admit you laugh when Wendall goes, PARTNA!!!

Wendall was probably the only thing I laughed at on that show. Now how the show survived despite the awful ratings... I don't even know! I wonder why the show lasted as long as it did b/c it was pretty awful (at least to me anyways). I use to watch other shows that came on around it on The WB so I guess that's why I use to watch it.
marvin g 09-26-2003, 10:04 PM I liked the show but I must admit the dream sequences did get to be a bit annoying. I also agree about characters disappearing for no reason. I still don't understand why the guy who played Michael wasn't on the show anymore? I know his character went to college and that was that!
You really do not see too much of the show. It kept changing times on the viewers. It was a really hard show to find, especially on reruns.

One thing you have to remember is that it was on the WB. A 2.1 rating on WB was like an 8 or 9 on another network back then. Also, it was one of the first shows ever on WB, so I think they wanted to hold on to it for awhile to make a name for the network and try to build up the Black audience.
jamesanthony 04-24-2004, 08:34 PM This show was entertaining. I might be the only one who didn't mind the fantasy sequences. I just accepted them as being part of the series. My favorite was the one from Home Sweet Hood where they did the Jerry Springer parody. Robert did a good impersonation of that annoying guy Jerry Springer. This show wasn't made to win emmies but it was basically g-rated which is a rarity these days. Also the kid actors seemed to really get along and have fun with each other. It comes through in the performances.
Before this show Robert Townsend did a much more experimental variety show on Fox that got the big axe after 10 shows. So he played it much safer with this and now he's raking in $$$ from the reruns.

Looking back, this show was so corny, hell with the exception of The Wayne's Brothers, a lot of those WB shows back then were lame. I never understood for the life of me why a lot of African-American shows that came after Cosby were trying hard to be the next Huxtables. Cosby had it's corny moments but nothing can compare to the Huxtables.

I remember alot of people criticizing it for trying to be the Huxtables of the mid 1990's. I enjoyed watching the show but I hate how they scheduled it towards the end. I always thought it ended with the cliffhanger of Robert being shot until I found out on tvtome (tv.com now) that the conclusion and 12 other episodes aired in summer 1999. Hopefully, I can watch the last season when TVOne starts to air it.
rzombie1988 08-25-2007, 10:45 AM From what I've read it survived as long as it did because it was supposed to be a hit in syndication. Unfortunately, it never caught on in syndication either which is why it gets such crappy timeslots.

You didn't miss much, the last season was horrible and they took Kendall off on top of that. Instead we had Robert's annoying brother..
