View Full Version : Some Of These Signatures Are So Long
Dianne3 05-30-2003, 02:15 PM that I don't feel it is right for the administrators to ask for donations, especially from the posters who do not use them.
Sorry, if I offended anyone, but I feel very strongly about this.
Where did I ask "everybody" for donations? It is strictly voluntarily, if you like being here and want to help support the boards then please do so.
Ravey 05-30-2003, 05:30 PM And plus I dont think that their asking for donations just to keep signatures alive, but to keep the boards alive.

Niether do i.
TJ said only if you want to give a donation he didn't say you HAD to!
I'm going to try my best to donate some money!
BrandonS 05-30-2003, 10:18 PM This Web site has given me a tremendous amount of entertainment. It really has, and I think that it is entirely appropriate for TJ to let us know how donations can be made. I would really hate it if this board went away.
Hollow 05-30-2003, 11:53 PM what are the donations for?

To help pay for the expenses of the boards.
At the bottom of the jumble of different boards, listed along with chit chat and all the other links, is a link that explains about donations. It says:
Make a donation -- help support the boards
Click that and you can read the how, where and why of it.
Kay Scarpetta 05-31-2003, 12:01 PM I wish I had a credit card... I'd be the first to make a donation. But I'm only 14! Hey I could send you cash, lol.

*InThisMoment* 05-31-2003, 03:37 PM I Don't Know What I'd Do With-Out SO!
BrandonS 05-31-2003, 03:51 PM I hope that those who can afford to send a little money do. TJ has created something really worthwhile here, and I want it to stick around. The problem is that many will say to themselves, "Yeah, I'm gonna send money to TJ," but not nearly that many will actually do it. That seems to be the way these things work.
webuster 05-31-2003, 05:25 PM Like in the war, and in the wizard of oz- everyone had bunkers, in case of a bomb or in dorothy's case a tornado. A bunker backed everyone up, helped them survive so they could come back out and get on their feet. Anyway- someone brought up the fact that they'd hate it if the board went away. Well if it did, or if something happened and it kinda vanished, should we have a bunker thing- so we can all still post each other? Maybe everyone all create a site on a free webhost thing- and all post a link to keep together. Just in case.
BrandonS 05-31-2003, 05:30 PM My primary goal is to help TJ, and I will send money today, once I summon the willpower to get out of the house. However, in terms of having an emergency backup system, I am concerned that if this board were to cease to exist, it would be difficult or impossible for me to communicate further with most of my friends here. In many cases, I have friends here, for whom I know neither their name nor their e-mail address. I understand the security concerns most of us have, but it does make it likely that if the board just ceased, most of us would never be able to re-establish contact. So, although the primary focus has to be on supporting TJ, it wouldn't hurt to have some kind of plan, should the worst happen someday.

I agree.

I think I was the first, because TJ hadn't verified his Paypal account yet. But Credit Cards, they're nice. :)
Czas na Zywiec 05-31-2003, 07:48 PM Oh man, I swear if I had any money to spare, I'd send some. Next year, I'll be so poor that all my money earned from my two jobs is going towards tuition. I won't even have a computer! But as soon as I get financially established (And get a computer), I'll try to send something to help.
Dianne3 06-02-2003, 12:12 PM Been away for a couple of days. I did not expect this many respones.
The reason I had a problem with the donation request, is this. For the boards to be successful, there has to be co-opearation from everyone. I remember a request, to shorten signatures, and I don't think too many people listened.
I'm not too familiar with PayPal, I visit a few sites on the net, and I've only once seen a request for a donation.
What if someone is hesitant to give their credit card number, over the internet?
Anyway, good luck.
