Why am I getting pop ups now on this board?

They slow my already ancient computer down like mad.

Yeah. I noticed that too. There are hardly ever any pop-ups on here, but today there is one coming up ever 2 minutes.:o

What pop-ups? Maybe you should download Pop-Up Stopper thats what I use. :D

I have seen no popups whatsoever. But maybe that's because I have something that blocks popups. :confused:

If there are it's probably the first time in over a year maybe a year and a half since TJ put in pop-ups.

I haven't gotten a single pop-up from here (Minus that one night) ever since I put Chit Chat in my favorites. Other than that, I usually get one when I go to the SO main page, (It's always one for E-Bay), but that's it. And I don't use any blockers at all.

I didn't use to get popups at all on any site. Then, all of a sudden, I started getting them like crazy. I don't know why. What I don't get is if they can find me and try to sell me stuff, why can't they figure out that I never buy any of their stuff? Then they could just give up on me and quit blowing their time or whatever on me. Hope springs eternal.

I'm getting lots of them. What a pain. If this continues, it won't be good for membership.

I have pop-ups blocked.

Dammit every time I load this page I'm getting popups.

I'll not be able to come to the boards if they keep it up, my computer can't take it. I can't download the pop up stopper things because I dont have enough hard drive room AND my computer is too old to handle that stuff. :(

Spybot is good though its better for getting rid of spyware, dialers, etc....



I haven't noticed any, then again Im on AOL 8.0 which has a popup blocker built in...

I'll check out a popup blocker aside from spybot if that will keep them out even better.

To Nanny fine: Spybot took up 5.24 mb which isn't very much. But what also happened when I downloaded it is it got rid of spyware that I didn't know was in my comuputer. I net gained .13 gb of disc space. So you might try that or some other thing people have mentioned in this thread. Maybe you'll gain disc space like I did.

I only get the ebay pop ups when I first come on here and I just got another pop up. Pop ups are annoying. I went to one board and I swear pop ups came up every single time you clicked on something. Talk about a pain in the ass.

Considering their is spyware out there that can cost you hundreds of bucks.... Id say spybot is a good free download to get rid of em.... Make sure you know what you are doing with it though...

Yeah, I was just looking at pop up stopper. I don't think it's free. Spybot was easy to figure out when I downloaded it . I was sure they weren't going to surprise me with some unexpected bill. And using it has been a cinch. I've read all of its help menue. Every once in awhile I just turn it on. Five minutes later it has pulled up all of the spyware that has found its way past the gates. I don't know why some get back on like that though. Anyway, then I click the get rid of them button and their gone. Once a week or so I click the check for new spyware to block and download whatever spybot brings up. it's usually only one or none. So far I've had no problems or unpleasant surprises.

I dont know what's up... but its annoying.

It's odd there were very few people complaining the last time I had run popunders/ups on the boards awhile back.

The message boards generate virtually no money, and it costs quite a bit to host all your avatars and huge signatures.

I could ask for donations I suppose, but many of you are in school and have no jobs and couldn't help.

I doubt anyone is getting more then a couple per browser session, if you are getting them on every page then something is seriously wrong with your browser.

I am not saying this is permanent, but I'd like see how things go over the next few days.

Or that their computer is loaded with spyware lol...

I never got them at SO...which is funny, because I get them absolutely everywhere else.

I kind of figured those very large signatures, were costing money.

You cannot blame the administrators for considering pop-ups, if it does help offset the cost.

I'll shorten down my siggy. I'll keep the one flashing pic and the song lyrics. I'll cut down the big pic. I guess we could all shorten the sigs a bit.

The popups/unders have been removed from the message boards. It is really not worth the hassle even though they would have more then covered the costs. It's not worth it if people aren't going to visit the boards because of them.

Instead, if you are able to - please make a donation to help support the boards. Thanks!

I never click on pop-ups anyway whether they show up or not. I hate pop-ups unless it's for a well-designed website, but then again that's just me.

Yea same, I also hate those banner ads, the ones saying "You are our hourly winner" and stuff... Ive seen banners tellin me to get there software as itll help protect my computer from hackers and stuff, The software coming from "Bonzi" The same company that makes "BonziBuddy" That annoying gorilla or whatever the hell it is that is full of spyware... and they expect me to trust them, lol

My dad has BonziBuddy on his computer. :lol: I see that as just a waste of space. Like that Yahoo Companion thing. Why would someone want something that takes up more viewing space on their IE screen?

I get popups at the main page, but other than that this place is popup free for me.....

Aw yea, I used to have that thing on here... Yahoo Companion... How it got on here I don't know probably by when I installed yahoo messenger or something, I uninstalled it and it messed up my IE, lol... ah well since then weve had to reinstall everything so its all good...
