View Full Version : JOE BLOWS - Part 1
pilotguy 05-29-2003, 06:55 AM Last night I watched the first part of this story, and I thought that it was very well done.
It really wasn't that funny, but you could just FEEL Joe's tension mounting as person after person kept pulling and pulling on him.
The final scene where he completely loses it was an EXCELLENT performance by Tim, and that scene ALONE should have won him an Emmy!
Tonight's second part should be interesting!
AgtSkye 05-29-2003, 07:05 AM I was a little disappointed to miss the show tonight. I haven't seen that ep in YEARS. Ever since I started watching again in mid-April I haven't missed a single one, but yesterday a few things transpired to cause this to happen. I like the band Coldplay, and tonight they played at Sacramento Valley ampitheatre which is a good two hours from where I live in Modesto...the place to go if you wanna get murdered. If you ever come here, let me know and I'll tell you how to survive. I've been living here without mishap since the age of 12, and so far nothing untoward has happened to me <g>...but anyway we got a new tv system tonight, so I could only set the VCR and hope it would work. Alas it did not. :(
But Coldplay were awesome and well worth it. Anyone else here like them?

AgtSkye 05-29-2003, 08:09 AM Coldplay are a band from England. If you're familiar with Radiohead, you might be able to relate their sound to like, if Radiohead were in a happier mood and made positive songs. Bad description...they do that song "Yellow" that's been played to death on the radio.
But really they can do much more than that.

nantucket_wings 05-29-2003, 08:17 AM I must be really out of sync with the music these days, cuz I havent heard of radiohead either ... I pretty much listen to oldies, disco, and 80s music ... :)

around here, they've been playing "Clocks" on the radio nonstop. lol.
Radiohead is cool. I love "Pyramid Song"!!
anyway, I didn't watch Wings last night- I taped it and went to bed early, so I could actually get up for work this morning. So now tonight I'll be able to watch parts 1 and 2 of this episode, since I don't have to get up at 7 tomorrow morning. hehe.

:o)
HaskellGirl 05-29-2003, 03:28 PM I love the part where Joe finally loses it!!! I agree, definately Emmy material. But just wait for the episode where Brian burns down Helen's house. Tim Daly is at his absolute best dramatic self. I love angry, angsty Joe!!!!!
AgtSkye 05-29-2003, 05:52 PM I don't even know if I'll be able to tape it tonight either. At least I'll be able to watch it. See, my family got direct tv yesterday...I get home at 2 in the morning, so I've missed the show. And this afternoon I asked if anyone was told how to tape with the vcr, and no one knows! Anyone here have direct tv?? I have to figure out how to get the vcr to pick up the sattelite programming. Maybe there's a web site or something.

losthighway 05-29-2003, 06:40 PM Hi Anne,
I have DirecTV and it's a snap to use. All you need to do is plug the VCR in to the back of the Directv receiving unit, much like you would do with a cable box and then set the VCR to record to channel 4. (At least that's how I have it set up with my VCR)
Wings is on channel 299 with DirecTV so you would put the Directv receiver to channel 299 and your vcr to channel 4 and it should record properly.
(I hope that makes sense anyway) A word of caution however. With my Directv I get the East Coast feed with many cable channels, so Wings comes on at 10:00pm on channel 299, but then they repeat the same episode at 1:00am on Channel 300, which is a second nick at nite channel.
Good luck.
AgtSkye 05-30-2003, 04:16 AM thanks so much losthighway. i'm always good with the electronics around my house, so i'll just get behind the whole thing tomorrow and hook it all up. i just totally had no clue before because the guy came and installed it while i was gone. it's sounds really easy.
on ours we have nick east and west. that must be what you're talking about. i actually watched the east one tonight and saw wings at 10pm. it was cool. and if wings is on earlier, then with both channels combined that is a MAD amount of cosby. i think i'm going to stay away from them as much as possible. :D

phoebe7165 05-30-2003, 12:13 PM Hey, Anne! I haven't seen you before on the boards although it reads you have 40 posts. I've heard of both Coldplay and Radiohead. Not too familiar with all their music except what I've heard on the radio. I like some music from the new bands but not enough to go see them in concert. Case in point-my most recent concerts I attended were Bon Jovi; Crosby, Stills & Nash; and Def Leppard. Yes, I am a fossil!! I'll be going to concerts when I'm 70! Next month I'm going to see Queensryche for the 3rd time. One has to be selective anymore about concerts because prices have gotten so high for them-at least the ones I go to. Queensryche was $58!.
Anyway, I really like the 'Joe Blows' episode. Extremely fine acting from Tim Daly because you never see him yell like that before, especially when he's yelling at Helen. Is it me, though, but I always get tears in my eyes when Joe says "Where do I go when it finally dawns on me that my life sucks?" Remember "It's a Wonderful Life" where George Bailey thought things would be better if he were never born? Think maybe the Wings writers should have done something like that.

spunkygirl 05-30-2003, 11:05 PM Joe Blows I & II are my all time fav. Wings episodes ever! Tim just blew me away in those. Just the amount of emotion he put into just a few lines just blew me away. I agree Tim certainly deserved an Emmy for that. :) :) :) :)
