View Full Version : 2nd Generation.
Cokies 11-22-2000, 10:48 PM I was just wondering if there are any fans out there who didnt watch the show in it's original run. (Because, you werent born yet, or way too young too understand, like me.)
See, Im just 15 and a sophmore in high school.
I actually remember watching it in elementary school on the USA network with 'Charles in Charge' and ' Major Dad'.
Not until Nick at Nite started showing them, did I really get into it.
Anyway, are there any of you the same?

Jo_Po 11-22-2000, 11:52 PM Hey, I am a second generation FOL fan, I am 15 too, and I can remember seeing some eps on USA. But it wasn't until FOL came on Nick at Nite and I saw the marathon that I was hooked. =)
~Steph
LaverneShirley 11-23-2000, 12:43 AM I'm a second generation fan! I'm 13, but I never saw it on USA. Never even heard of it until I read a book called Don't Look Behind You. Even then I had no idea what it was. But after the marathon, I was hooked!
------------------
"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"
"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"
"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"
"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"
JPolniaczek 11-23-2000, 04:09 AM Same with me! I am thirteen years old and never saw The Facts of Life or even heard of it until Nick at Nite's marathon because I am a total NAN junkie. I remember seeing commercials for the marathon almost a month before it aired and thinking it was really strange. They were all first season scenes in the commericals though. (but how was I to know this?) I watched the marathon and got completely hooked and now atch it every night and go into FOL withdrawl if I don't get my daily fix LOL JK.....I miss the 2nd to 4th season eps though : (

FOL85NatandMrsGRock 11-23-2000, 09:03 PM Wow!! didnt know that there were so many others out there my age!! I'm 15 and a Frosh in high school, but i am a MAJOR Nick at Nite watcher and very prestigous about watching new shows that come to nick at nite that i never heard of, so i didnt bother to watch the marathon for the first run, but one night i was on the computer and i turned the tv on automatically to nick at nite and it was the marathon, the paint fight ep, i only got to see the paint fight but since i didnt know what the show was about or who the people were it didnt totally hook me, until after the marathon ended and i was on the computer again (surprise surprise!!) and i turned NaN on again, and it was the first episode of the teenage marriage 2 parter and it was right at the part where eddie was giving her the ring and i thought wow is she gonna marry him and then when i saw mrs. g give her whole romeo and juliette speil i was HOOKED!!! i had to watch teh second episode and i got to know the cahracters well, and so i LOVED that ep so much i stayed up until 1:00 in the morning to tape it so i could see the whole thing... (it was a saturday night) and then all of sunday i watched that episode over and over and over and over and over, i musta saw it like 20 times, NO JOKE!!! and i went online and looked it up and stuff, i never heard of it and i think i remember seeing an ep or two that was on usa but i was too little to even remember anything... but i got hooked and now i am a faithful watcher and never miss an episode, but i missed the first season eps and so im hoping htat people WILL vote for the first season eps that will be on this sunday especially the one where mrs. garrett teaches them sex ed!! i hear it is SOOO funny, and it sounds funny!! ok well gotta hit the road!! glad i am not the only "2nd Generation" kid out there!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif bye
The Obsolete Man 11-23-2000, 09:31 PM 18, and didn't discover the show until Nick at Nite started airing them in September.
Real bummer, too. I hate the way N@N has chopped up the episodes. Stupid syndication. Used to be a time when they would show uncut episodes of every show. Now, it's just another network showing mangled I Love Lucy episodes and cut-up FOL.
Stupid Nick at Nite.
Oh, and what hooked me on the show? Blair. Hottest 80s TV Female, hands down.
Cokies 11-24-2000, 12:17 AM It's awesome that there's others like me. I actually was babysitting on the last night of the marathon and the kid went to sleep, so I was like, 'What's on t.v?' Turned it to Nick at Nite and said "Hey, I remember this show!" and the rest is history.

"It was just like Saturday Night Fever, except it was a Friday."
highanddry 11-24-2000, 03:13 AM I'm 20, and I remember watching this show during its original run, but most of those episodes had Cloris Leechman in them and I really don't remember any details from those episodes. I remember liking it, and I was actually kind of excited when USA brought it back in the mid 90s. I'm a sucker for just about any 80s sitcom.
HuGeJoFaN 11-24-2000, 11:41 AM yOoOo! I am a huge FOL Fan! I am 14 years old and I started watching it on N@N. My mom was actually the one that got me into it. I watch Living Single and as you may know Kim Fields plays Regine (spelling?). My mom was watching it one night and asked me if I knew who that little girl was (tootie) and I said I had no idea and she said it was Regine from Living Single, after that I started watching it and I was hooked!

Mustang Mimi 04 11-27-2000, 01:12 PM I'm 18 and didn't start really getting into the episodes until recently while watching it on Nick at Night. I remember I did watch them before but I was so young that the only one I remember is an episode with some guy saying how he loves the name Tootie. I haven't seen it since then and really don't remember what the story line in that episode was. Oh and the other one I vaguely remember is the paint fight episode- does anyone know if it'll be on soon cause I'd really love to watch it again. Well gtg!
*Melissa* 11-27-2000, 02:33 PM I'm 18, and when FOL was on I was too young to understand it. I started watching it when NAN started the marathon, and when I saw the episodes with Jo, I just had to keep watching!
biggestJOfanintheworld 11-27-2000, 05:43 PM i'm 13 and i didn't get hooked until the last two nights of the marathon that nick at nite played. at first when i saw the commercials before the marathon started i thought this is gonna be another stupid show they put on. then one night i watched it and i got hooked.it's now my favorite show and i wouldn't miss it for anything.

JohnMcMillin 11-27-2000, 09:22 PM I was born in 1979, when FOL was brand new. But I remember watching FOL with my older sister (who is the same age as Lisa Whelchel, 16 year gap between us) with her from way back when. Me and her would even dance to the theme song when I was little. She moved out, but I still watched the show until the very end. I was kinda saddened when I found out there was no more FOL http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif
LaverneShirley 11-27-2000, 10:28 PM Polniaczek13, yes, the book Don't Look Behind You (by Lois Duncan) does mention FOL. The main character is in a hotel room watching tv and watches a rerun of Facts.

The T 11-27-2000, 11:37 PM I must admit I had no interest in watching the show until recently. Even then I didn't want to see it cause I was ticked off that it had kicked off happy days, but I was flickin through that channels and it was on and I love it!

Nat's Fan 07 11-28-2000, 09:56 PM I am 14 and heard about the show like 3 days before the marathon my mom was telling me i would love it.The thing that interested me wit it was the comercial were Natalie say"I'd rather be a happy magic marker theen a skinny pencil"I knew Nat would be my fave. It's a touching Kodak moment*I know*
JohnMcMillin 11-29-2000, 10:16 AM I think it's so cool that people who are 12-15 years old love this show. I mean, tho I was 8 when the show went off the air, I still have a hard time believing it's been twelve years and also can't believe it's old enough for Nick At Nite. I am 21 years old, but still have a hard time comprehending the shows that were on when I was growing up as a kid are now on NAN. Not that I'm complaining tho http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
ThomasE 11-30-2000, 01:57 AM I remember watching the show back in 1984 wensday nights at 9pm on NBC. I was about 7 back then it moved to Saturday nights at 8pm. I remember when I saw the new theme for the 1985-1986 season. I was thinking, "this is totally different".
TVaddict 11-30-2000, 03:19 PM Another 21 year old fan here. I honestly don't remember watching the show on its original run, although I can almost guarentee I did, considering I would watch whatever my older sister did, and her being 7 years older than me, she probably watched it. I remember watching the reruns on USA over summer vacations and while home sick from school. When the show came back on n@n I wasn't ecstatic, I only watched it when I came across it and there was nothing else on. Then for some reason, the week the second run of the marathon came on I was hooked. Unfortunately I didn't get hooked until Tuesday night, so I missed Monday. For some reason the first thing that caught me was how funny Blair was. When I was younger I think I hated her, but she is hilarious! I'm still a Jo fan at heart though, I wanted to be her. And it's been so long since I've seen the show it's like all new for me. The only things I remembered were the episode when the shop burns down (especially Mr. Frog and Tootie with the "uh-oh, I've lost my keys") and the part of the opening credits where Blair is mad at Jo and wearing the torn up dress and the crown. That used to drive me crazy because I had never seen that episode, luckily I have now. So anyway, now I watch it all the time. It's my first priority show at the moment (it stole the slot from Friends, although that's still a really good show) Anyway, I love the show and watch it every night, tape it when I can't be there (and even when I am there http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif ) So the show rules and it makes me laugh out loud sometimes, which is a hard thing to make me do. Facts of Life rocks, keep on watching whether you're 1st generation, 2nd generation, or somewhere in between (like mixed up me)
JohnMcMillin 11-30-2000, 03:24 PM I agree. I was so young when I first loved this show, that I had forgotten about almost all the episodes. The only episodes I really could remember watching when they were new were "Crusing" (I just remembered them playing Abba at the end for some reason), "Seven Little Indians" (LOVED IT even then!!!) and the one where Garrett leaves.
Mustang Mimi 04 11-30-2000, 04:38 PM TV Addict- that clip still drives me nuts. What episode is it from and why is Blair mad at Jo and why is she in a torn up dress? Can you sort of write out that little part? Cause usually Blair does something that irks Jo and I've always wondered what happened (and especially why Blair looks like that) I'd appreciate it alot- thanx!
The Obsolete Man 11-30-2000, 06:29 PM Nick at Nite just aired this episode a few weeks back.
It starts out with Jo in computer class, telling her troubles to a computer from 1984 which is more advanced than the computer I have (which is only a year old... but I digress).
Anyway, it then goes into this flashback in which Jo forgets to give Blair a message about the Helen of Troy contest (for most regal/beautiful chick) was moved to the next night. So, blair went to the gym, and became a part of the Basketball halftime show with Leo the Langley Lion. Needless to say, Blair was pi*sed. So, she got her revenge upon Jo, and Jo was once again in a position to screw with Blair by " forgetting" to give her the message that the contest was moved from the Gym to the Auditorium. But, Jo did the right thing and didn't forget to write a note. Blair didn't get the note, became part of the sideshow again, and that's how her costume was shredded again. The scene in the opening credits is from when Blair is telling Jo what she'll do to her.
Anyway, it all ends well.
Wish I had a computer that would talk to me and solve my problems, though. Anybody know where I could get a 1984 computer like that?
Mustang Mimi 04 11-30-2000, 06:38 PM Thankyou- do you know which episode that was from. And no I don't have a computer that can solve my problems- especially one from 1984. However I do wish I did have one. It could be very useful.
Cokies 11-30-2000, 07:44 PM Whoa, im gone for four days and you guys started a frenzy. Once again, its awesome that there's young fans out there, just the same as the old.

the part about the computer, i think that it wasnt what computers were like then, but more of a spin-off of what they thought computers would be like in the future kinda like that episode where Blair has the dream about going to the year 2000 and everything is all advanced (JO'S motorcopter or something??) but i seriously doubt that computers acctually talked to you cuz then we would have computers even more advanced then now! and i am still typing this out the same old way! and, if you could just talk to the computer and it would do what you told it to, there would have been no use for the keyboard that appeard with the computer in that episode!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on that! I've been swamped with homework and projects - and as usual, I get stuck with the partners who don't do anything. But enough about my academic life... It says that it ended with an "ideal ending. Jo rides off on her motercycle with her boyfriend." Don't know if that's in a real episode, but that's what it said. I coulda sworn it said something about Blair, but it doesn't... Anyway, it's a great book (third on my list of favorite books) about a girl in the Witness Protection Program.

JoFan 12-06-2000, 12:12 AM Hey guys! I'm 21 years old, but I never watched the show when it was originally on, but i do remember it was on because I have a weird kind of memory where songs I hear once stick in my mind. So I ran around with the theme song in my head for like 10 years, but i only started watching it now. I switched on Three's Co. and I caught the FOL and I was hooked. JO and Blair got me hooked, they're so funny together. Now I like everyone and I tape the shows.

I'm 19 and first discovered Facts when it was showing on nick at night and the hallmark channel ..when I was 12/13 I think...and then when it stopped I lost track of it and didnt get into it again untill the DVDs came out I now have the 1s, 2nd and 3rd season on DVD...and have watched them over and over again...
alexexstead14 01-14-2007, 12:09 AM I'm am 13 and I just came home from school and was watching TV and I was bored and I saw "The Facts of Life" on the guide (METV) my mom used to watch it and sometimes talked about it so I flipped to it. It was season 9 the one where they acidentally switch Bailry with some other kid I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Now I am totally obsessed and it is my favorite show.:)
I Love Lamp 01-14-2007, 01:27 AM I'm 18. I saw FOL on the Hallmark channel when I was about 14. I immediately thought it was very funny, and it became one of my all time faves. Then they took it off air, and I was depressed til it came out on dvd. I got them for Christmas and have watched an episode every day.
I first started to watch it when Nick at Nite aired it..apparently seven years ago. After it stopped airing I think i've seen it once on Hallmark and that was it. I got the first and second seasons today, so I might get the third one soon, i hope more seasons follow.
IheartBlair 01-14-2007, 04:58 PM yeah I also started to watch The Facts of Life when it started airing on Nick at Nite...wow it's been 7 years already!! I'm 19 now, in case you wanted to know :) I have Season 1,2, and 3! I'm really glad I can watch it anytime i want! I'm so anxious for season 4 to come out!! :D

angie_87 01-14-2007, 07:33 PM serioulsy thats so cool...
PlayOn 01-15-2007, 09:34 PM Geeky news: I was born Oct 10th, 1987.
Anyways, I started watching FOL when it came on N@N. Me and my grandma would watch it together and I would tape them and watch them again afterwards (or when my grandma went to bed) I think the 1st episode on the tape was were Blair's friend Allison drops off her baby daughter Emily and is gone all day and comes back very early the next morning.
nancy_mckeon_fan 02-17-2007, 06:58 AM Well, i'm 14 and i live in Bulgaria so i don't have N@N. I started watching The Division 3 or 4 months ago and I kinda liked Nancy McKeon a lot so i decided to check where have she played before The Division. I ran her name in youtube and there were like 20 videos of FOL. I watched them and i really liked it than a friend of mine bought the DVDs i watched them and i was really hooked. I'm just sorry that I can't watch the other seasons. :(
