I am 20 years old and I just LOVE the Monkees. They are my favorite band. Mike Nesmith is my favorite Monkee. How many people love the Monkees?

I remember when they were on when I was about 5 in the 60's. They were very cool. Then I got to see them in 1985/86 on MTV. It was a very imaginative show, and very funny!!:cool:

I was around 16 years old when The Monkees debuted. I watched that show every week and I had several of their LP's
Wish I still had them!:(

Mike was my favorite too but I have grown very fond of Mickey Dolenz. What a gifted comedian!:lol:

I still like The Monkees alot and I always liked both Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz.

My favorite Monkee is Peter. You can get the 1st season on DVD. Anyone planning on buying it?

i am 17 and i love the Monkees. My favorite is Davy Jones.

I still love the Monkees too. My favorite used to be Mike, but I don't really have a favorite anymore.

I'm almost 18 and I love the Monkees's music. My fav song by them is "I'm A Believer".

I will always love the Monkees! I'm an original Monkee viewer from way back when they started. I loved Davy, Mickey Heck........ I loved them all. My favorite songs are all the Davy songs & Pleasant Valley Sunday. I heard that song the other day and it still rocks....... :rock:

Monkees (and Beach Boys) are on my top 5 list of fav. bands. Davey is my favorite! Ive seen them twice in concert and theyre awesome. I prefer them over the Beatles (:eek: ).

I did mean her!! :lol: I should have made myself more clear. I guess in this day of classic tv nostalgia, the imitation will always be better than the real thing. Cause it's catchier and not quite as deep as THE FAB FOUR, who truly did re-invent rock and roll for everyone after Elvis. Btw, I'm listening to "3rd Stone From the Sun" by Jimi Hendrix. I agree with him when he said, "You'll never hear surf music again." Oh, and btw, Jimi had a disastrous tour with the Monkees, all the parents and kiddies thought he was "too vulgar", and said he was going to be replaced with Mickey Mouse!!:rolleyes: :lol:

Don't worry Ms Conan, You're not alone. I only like a few of the Beatles songs and only own 2 of their CDs, while I adore the Monkees.

One of my cousin's coworkers met with Peter Tork and they have sex and I swear it's true she's 19 and he's in his 60's that's sick. She had a really bad crush on Davey Jones but I guess he wasn't available :rolleyes:

The Monkees were created by the producers of their TV show. People were interviewed for the positions. Now this alone, is not necessarily negative, but they had a bunch of rock music greats, like Neil Diamond, writing their songs behind the scenes, and some said playing them too, at least originally. I don't dislike the group, but these are the facts as I recall them from those days. I know that Mike Nesmith wrote Linda Ronstadt's song, "Different Drum," and that may have been before his Monkee days, but, if so, he's the exception.

In the beginning, the Monkees had a musical director (not by their choice) that chose the songs for their first 2 albums. Mike Nesmith fought to get some of his songs on both albums. (I think it was 2 on the first one and one on the second.) He wrote and played on them and I'm pretty sure some of the other guys played on them too. After that, they fought to have Kirshner fired (the director) and the PTB sided with them. The 4 guys were involved with every aspect of the third record. After that, they chose the songs and played some of the instruments but didn't always play as a group. They continued this format until 1997's JUSTUS in which the four Monkees wrote every song, sang every part, played every instrument, and did all the tech stuff as well, i believe. Throughtout their careers, each Monkee has written songs for the group as well as for their solo careers.


MandieR1980, I've heard similar rumors before but I don't put any stock in them so far because its never come from anyone I know well.

My cousin told me she has seen pictures of him touching that girls chest and she's seen an email between the two so I believe it my cousin wouldn't lie about something like that. That girl truely is a whacko though.

The Monkees were one of the most underrated bands of the 60s! I always loved them and always will. Nesmith has proved he can write very good songs too!

yeah i really dig the monkees i just want to buy anything that has there picture on it! and mikes my fav too even though i think he doesn't too a whole lot with the band but thats a another story i guess! anyway i am a big fan of the monkees even though i wasn't even born in the 60s but so what i'll always love them and there music forever!
