I just heard about this on "Good Day Live," and they reported that Hilary Duff didn't agree with Disney regarding future career plans, and the future of "Lizzie McGuire." Duff had enough, and cut all of her ties with Disney.

Walt Disney Co. and Hilary Duff , star of the Disney Channel's hit "Lizzie McGuire" comedy TV show and a recently released Disney movie of the same name, have split up, a spokeswoman for the entertainment giant said on Saturday.

Disney and the 15-year-old actress were "going their separate ways" following failed talks over the direction of Duff's career, the spokeswoman told Reuters.

The talks broke down on May 9 and ruled out a sequel to "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," the spokeswoman said.

"We gave them a very generous offer and unfortunately they passed. Hilary is a great girl and we truly wish her the best of luck," the spokeswoman said.

Duff's attorney, who represented the actress in the talks, could not be reached for comment.


A Disney Channel spokesman said there were no plans to produce new episodes of the "Lizzie McGuire" show, but said the cable network plans to continue broadcasting the program.

"Lizzie McGuire" has been among the Disney Channel's most successful programs since its January 2001 debut and consistently ranks as one of the most-watched children's programs on cable television, Disney Channel's spokesman said.

The television program's movie spinoff went into wide release on May 2 and has garnered more than $34 million in box-office receipts, Disney's spokeswoman said.

Disney's Lizzie McGuire franchise aimed at "tween" audiences of children 9 to 14 years of age also includes books, clothing and music.

Here's a more in depth article that says the split was caused both by "milking Lizzie," and business issues- in which Hilary did not receive the money she entirely deserved. The article also states that this split automactically cancels the "Lizzie" movie sequel, and the planned ABC high-school continuation.

Hilary Duff, the star of "Lizzie McGuire" on both the small and big screen, is leaving Disney. Unlike most teen breakups, though, this one is about money.

"Lizzie McGuire" is the Disney Channel's most successful series, and Duff, 15, has a devoted following among the "tween" set -- marketing-speak for 9- to 14-year-olds. "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" opened to more than $17 million at the box office and will make a healthy profit for the studio.

And there, apparently, is the rub. Duff's camp believes that she deserves a bigger piece of what Disney has reaped from her stardom -- books, music and clothing are also part of the "Lizzie" universe -- while Disney balked at what it perceived as outsized demands to keep "Lizzie" afloat.

"Disney's strong-armed tactics and failure to pay our client a fee commensurate with offers received from other studios and networks caused the breakdown of negotiations with the Duffs," the teen star's lawyer, Michael R. Fuller, tells the Los Angeles Times.

Counters Disney Studios head of production Nina Jacobson: "Every deal has its tipping point, the point at which it no longer makes sense. Unfortunately, that's the point we reached in the 'Lizzie' negotiations."

The split scuttles plans for a movie sequel and a Lizzie-in-high-school series that was being targeted for ABC. The Disney Channel has a handful of new "Lizzie" episodes it still plans to air, along with reruns of the rest of the series.

According to the Times, Fuller and Duff's mother, Susan, began negotiating a raise for Hilary Duff shortly before the movie opened in early May. They asked that Hilary be given a salary of $100,000 per episode for the proposed ABC series, up from the $15,000 per episode she makes for "Lizzie McGuire."

I thought Disney was dropping "Lizzie" because Duff was getting too old. I didn't know they were going to do a spinoff for ABC.

Miss Duff has guts for giving up possible "Lizzie" movie sequels, but she deserved more money for her effrts. Disney was planning on letting Duff go and just rerunning "Lizzie" forever, raking in money without paying her anymore.

Miss Duff and her mom got a case of being greedy. It will come back to haunt them. Hillary does not have that big, mass market appeal. She's pretty popular with tweens but anyone else it's kind of a crap shoot. She COULD have stayed at Disney, let them create the Lizzie in High School sitcom and broadened her appeal to older tens and young boys [my son is 11 and thinks she's so hot]. She's losing out on millions by running away from Disney and it will hurt her in the future in dealings with other studios. Miss Duff should find better representation than her mother.:D

Lizzie is nowhere near as popular, and the new highschool version hasn't even aired yet, so Duff cannot ask for $100,000. That is alot of money even for someone on a hit show.

Under the current circumstances, 35,000 an episode to begin a new show is more than generous. If the show became a hit then she could ask for more.

and it never will, nor will it EVER be made...

Plain and simple, when you have something good, you don't walk away from it. Especially when you can't see into the future. I wouldn't be surprized if 75% of shows bomb, and once it's over, its over.

I hope I'm not repeating anything because I didn't read all the replies. In the "more in-depth" article, the last sentence in the first paragraph is false. The break-off WASN'T about money. Disney and Duff had some "respect issues" that the Duff's weren't too happy about. Disney wasn't too polite to Duff/ her entourage during negotiations to say the least. Duff got 15 thou. per episode, and if Duff continued, she would probably be given 35 thou., but they didn't accept that.

Contrary to what I've also heard, Duff didn't stop negotiations because she hated the direction Lizzie was going (it's going up, up, up according to the box office and cable ratings). It's mostly a respect issue from here on out.

Duff is getting a little old for Lizzie, I won't hesitate to admit that, but it's not all about the money and Duff not liking Lizzie or the age. That's the so-called truth I've read about on a Lizzie Fan Site.

Hilary Duff leaves the Disney lot? No way! I'm also enjoying watching "Lizzie McGuire" especially the movie I saw at the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston. It was great!!!

Dude, NO WAY!!!!! That is so stinkin crazy!! First of all, its crazy that you name the mall and town you saw a movie in. I mean, who does that? And what makes that even crazier, is its that exact mall that I lived like 5 minutes away from back in NY. I grew up in Saugerties which is right next to Kingston. That's my favorite mall of all time! And the movie theater is in the food court right? Next to Sears!! Dude, you're talking crazy. I went to that mall like 3 times a week, it is pretty small though. But now that they added a best buy and target it's great! What are the stinkin chances! Kingston Rocks!

It's crazy too that full house is also one of my all-time favorite shows. Perhaps even my favorite. Us New Yorkers think alike. :happyface

It's also crazy that I used to watch price is right like every day whenever I got the chance when I was little. Still good. And match game is a great show. What are you like my alter ego?

Is that why they took Lizzie off the air at 10:30pm and replaced it with Even Stevens?

That's thing thing though, in my opinion Hillary Duff is not worth, not yet at least, 100 thousand dollars per episode. That's a lot of money to pay a child actor going into the first season of a brand new show. I mean yes the predictions would be that the show would do well, but maybe it wouldn't. In any case 35,000 was more than enough.
