View Full Version : No offense but here is my one gripe about these boards.

1.I realize that there are many age differences on these boards. Some of the questions like what did you have for dinner is really wasting their time and mine,Secondly I know the younger generation likes C.Aguilera, and B.Spears but these women have about as much talent as my dog ,gyrating and showing off body parts is the only way these women get any record labels interested. They cannot sing or dance. You don't have have pure genuine talent now a days.it's all done in the recording studios with trick musical gadgets to give the impression that any true genuine musical skills was put into the music.any of the young rapers and singers who say its about the music are saying that because saying it its for the money would seem selfish and shallow the problems is that that is that why people like spears are in music today P.Labelle,or any well known performer who has artistic integrity can say they do it because it feeds the soul. And for young rapers and performers stop thanking God.its not a thoughtful acknowledgement its now standard fair.Don't confuse fancy camera angles and dance moves that involve touching private areas as talent. The era of clean pure talent is gone unless its jazz.Penny lane said there was astute people on the internet a few are but there are alot of useless, brainless subjects without any real forthought and meaningfulness coming out,for those who want to talk deep and spiritually about music, relationships, children,or want to get into serious discussions about movies and Tv email me at CHPK@Erols.com.until the see ya later Penny lane

It's not really that bad, you just skip over the posts you dont want to read. The post about the Matrix, I didn't open it because I didn't like the movie so I skipped past it. There are a lot of good posts here on the boards.

I don't disagree with some of what you're saying, but the boards are a very democratic place, where anyone can express himself as long as he stays withing the bounds of decency.

I agree,to a point, with what you say,but a lot of times when people(of any age)on these boards make "silly" posts, they're just trying to make conversation with others. You don't have to be serious all the time.JMO,though.

Same here. It's hard to fit in if you want everything to be serious. Like everyone else said, don't read what you don't like.

This is very true. I come here to escape and have fun. At 48 years of age, I enjoy reading some of the crazy and silly "stuff" here. I sometimes can add my dubious sage advice as well.

If you want "serious" discussion you might try news-related message boards. I think there may be boards associated with cnn.com or msnbc.com or .... ???

Just a thought.

As far as music is concerned: well, didn't they say the same kinds of thing about Sinatra and Elvis and the Beatles? Or for that matter, about jazz?

I don't think that every single topic on these boards has to be on a total serious issue...people come here to have fun, make friends, be goofy. And, if you think about it, many of these so-called "useless" topics often turn into something good. Especially those random posts! :D

I've heard her sing with nothing but an old blues man backing her up on a piano. No studio manipulation there. She'll be around for a long time and I'll be glad of it. Doesn't even bother me a wit when she dances with not a lot of close on. :)

My, that certainly was a mouthful, wasn't it? Only teasing, only teasing. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and have every right to "gripe" on a special thread about what you think stinks about America and these boards.

The way I see it is this. Not everyone is looking for such indepth and sophisticated disucssion when they come here. Some are just looking for a good time, and that varies from person to person. I know of your friend Penny Lane. She's got really terrific posts and really contributes to a lot of interesting topics. Maybe you'll find your place on here if you give it time. If not, you may want to look elsewhere.

Sitcoms online is more of a younger person's board. I don't think there are too many users past a certain age.

As for Britney Spears, her 15 minutes of fame are ticking.

Hey, you like what you like. You know? If you like something, the hell with what anybody else thinks. I hope this reply sends. Pop ups should die. Okay, good it didn't freeze the comp up all the way. Anyway, age doesn't really matter at all. Any age could enjoy Disney or Erik. Btw, have you ever saw Erik in that Leave it to Beaver movie? j/w He was Wally. The movie came out around 97 (?).

Well, I don't completely disagree with Harper's points either although I feel that this board, the Chit Chat in particular and others like it on the Internet are for random ramblings and trivial talk so-to-speak. It's like it says - Chit Chat. There are other forums to talk on more specific subjects so you could try those if this doesn't suite you, but nonetheless I do understand what you are saying. I just feel that these people, a good deal who have probably been here since it's inception, have much more of a right to post whatever they want. I mean, you have only a little over 80 posts and I only a little over 100.

Perhaps my only real "concern" here (besides some rather large sigs) is whether or not I'm the only male poster. I've noticed quite a large portion of female posters here, not that it's bad but it does make me feel a bit more fit-in if there were some of my own gender posting here. One does feel a little out-of-place with such an over abundance of the opposite sex, especially for one who's straight.

Oh my, I hope I don't cause a fuhrer over what I just said.

Hey, nothing wrong with being young at heart. Yeah, I think Disney does show the LITB movie every now and again. Have you tried tvnow.com? Just go there and type in Erik's name and everything he will be in for the month, ought to show up.

Okay, here is my big gripe. I hate when you can't state an opinion w/o getting jumped all over. I'll admit right from the start that I'm not talking about Solomon. If I didn't say that I wasn't talking about Solomon, people might think I'm talking about him. I'm def. not talking about him. It's just when I state an opinion, I'm not calling it a fact. Why do you think I put 'jmo' or 'imo' after some of my posts, and I'll be damned if I don't get jumped on even after putting 'jmo' or 'imo'.

Have you considered working with someone? I just started autograph hunting and I was a chicken and wouldn't do it by myself. I worked with Cathy the first time and I got together with Chris and Sabrina because we love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and working with someone does sort of help. Teamwork was the only way we were gonna do the autograph hunt. I know I wouldn't of done it by myself. Cathy had the same fan letter phobia as I did. You can trade emails before you send them off to Erik.

I thought writing the fan letters would be hard, but really it kind of isn't. The first paragraph I just introduced myself, said what I liked them in. The second paragraph I kind of went into it a bit more (maybe talk about another project, maybe use up some more paragraphs talking about some of the projects I liked the person in) last paragraph I used to request an autograph.

If you ever decide to send Erik an email, I wish you and whoever works with you the best of luck on getting a reply. :)

I've also noticed that there isn't a lot of tolerance for other viewpoints. Many people jumped all over SOLOMON, admonishing him that he shouldn't act as though his view were the only possible one, but I've observed that most of them are at least as intolerant of "wrong" views. Everyone claims to believe in freedom of speech, but it's my observation that what most people mean by it is "I should have the right to say what I think because I'm right." Therefore, when any thread attempts to solicit views on a controversial topic, I usually skip it. I do post in the politics area, but when you post there, you sort of expect a fight.

I don't even post in those political threads, much less read them. I hope I've never come across that way, the 'I should have the right to say what I think because I'm right.' Excuse you! I have had a post like that before, and it was just for fun. Know it wasn't serious, but whose to say that everything on this board has to be serious? Most people, and I am saying most (not all, like you said earlier Melissa!:)) are between the 12-20 age group, and most of us don't wanna come and talk about whats going on in the news everyday. We are young, and we wanna talk about something thats interesting to us. If you don't like it here Harper, then why don't you just leave, because I can assure you, I am not going to change what I post, and most postive other people aren't either, just because you say you don't like it, or you think its a ''waste of time.'' That post about what you ''had for dinner'', and others like ''how old are you'' and ''what shoe size you wear'', and ''whats your pets names'' are just for fun, and they are a way for us to learn about each other. Can we please just keep this a ''fun'' board? I mean, if you wanna talk about politics or stuff like that, there's a board for it, and there's a board for almost anything that you want to talk about here. If you can't find anything that interests you, search for other message boards, and maybe you can find some other board to accomodate what you are wanting to talk about.

I SHOULD just get it over and done with who knows Maybe i'll get an autographed pic heheheh Or MORE then that  hehehehe WHAT *innocent look* ONE CAN DREAM ya know hehe

You never know until you try. Like I said, I hope he replies and you get an autograph. That would be awesome.
