View Full Version : I got the "Cheers" DVD!
I've only watched the pilot thus far, but I wasn't disappointed. The soundtrack is remixed into stereo, but they still use the original theme music from the first season (without the double-tracked vocals), as well as the original text font. So far, the episodes seem to be uncut; about 25 minutes each. The video is about as good as it gets for TV filmed in 1982.
I'll let you know if further viewing makes me change my mind.
DianeChambers87 05-20-2003, 06:21 PM :notworthy The holy Pilot :notworthy

I haven't checked them out yet, Maria, as they're on the fourth disc, and I probably won't watch them until after I'm finished with the whole season. The only thing I'm interested in as far as the extra features go, though, is the Q&A with Ted Danson.
Oh tvthemes88, does the dvd havea norm thing. I know it has stormin normisms but are they just clips or is it wendt talking. just wanted to know.
FOLN@NFan 05-20-2003, 10:13 PM are the eps remastered or unremastered?
im mad at myself...i didnt preorder, and they were actually out by the time i got there(Best Buy...didnt feel like goin other places)! lol at least im not the only cheers fan around i guess..
is the theme really that different? or is it just like it was when N@N FIRST BEGAN showing Cheers, w/ the regular-length themes? there, they DID use a way-different sounding theme than the short one they do now. (i dunno...i know alot of ppl started watching Cheers AFTER the first month on N@N, where they had already switched to short themes)
my computer crashed so i had to redo all my themes from tape(recorded onto my computer) again. hopefully ill have time to put them online soon...finally! (so maybe u can hear the difference.)...anyone able to record the theme from DVD for me? lol
Doug

They're remastered, and they look better than I've ever seen them. Paramount did a great job with this one. The sound is remixed to 2.0 stereo.

Um, I guess the themes are the way they were when Nick At Nite began showing them. Nick At Nite's aim at that time was to air the episodes as they were originally broadcast on NBC - no edits or time compression. The version of the theme used for the DVD is the same as it was when the first season was originally broadcast over twenty years ago.

DianeChambers87 05-21-2003, 07:59 PM lol i know, Aww ok here:
Dear Mr. Clifford Clavin,
I am a fan of the bar where you generally hang out. The dvd i ordered of it, and ofcourse your in it, is a little late but is in the good hands of the US. Postal Service. Please disregard what i said earlier, I am not really mad or hehe..."PO'd" at the US postal service. I mean I am only a mere citenzen and whats worse a minor in this great country; I admire and respect what you men and women of uniform do for us each and every single day. Thank you, and again i apologies for my crude comment I am just a little anxious and well a little excited for my DVD of the Greatest Sitcom and well television Show to arrive.
Sincerley,
Maria Desangles

Here's a dumb question - which episode is that from? If it's from season one, I can make it happen!

The software I use for my DVD-ROM allows for screen captures. That's about it.
FOLN@NFan 05-21-2003, 10:13 PM wow...those are REAL good! lol
N@N had(has?) 2.0 stereo sound, didn't it? It might not sound like it sometimes tho, just cuz theyre N@N
cheers freak 05-21-2003, 10:30 PM I am trying to save money for the DVD lol. The only problem is I dont have a DVD player so I have to save for one of those too
Stills from the opening credits, in case anyone wants to use them for anything...
For gosh sakes, would you look at that mustache!
It's a labor of love, folks. Well, not really. It's more like a dorky thing I decided to do tonight because I was bored.
Mr. Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
I can't think of anything clever to put here.
Guess what? More screen shots.
AKA may or may not have attached this image:
The statement below is true.
I wish you could attach more than one image per post.
