Ol Pat is having withdrawls of Happy Days. I need my Happy Days Fix. I want Happy Days DVD with

1) Full length and uncut shows

2) deleted footage (deleted even from the full length) - I'm not too picky on this one - feel free to use bloopers if you need to.

3) behind the scenes footage

4) personal interviews with the cast, director, cast's family, and anyone else you can find.

5) One music video with each DVD would be cool, but you don't need to go to this extreme for me. I would like a music video with each one (or a Joanie Loves Chachi episode). I don't care if it's a song sung by Potsy, Leather, Joanie and Chachi, Fonzie, Ralph from the dance Marathon, or even the song that Arnold sang waiting for Fonzie to come out of the bathroom to sing on stage at Arnolds.

6) Fit eight to ten shows per DVD

7) I want all 255 show available and I want the reunion DVD available as well.

You guys work on that while I hold my breath. Columbia House, where are you when we need you??? Put me down for Happy Days DVD of the month club. And with that, you should offer that Reunion show on DVD for free along with my choice of the 5 different Happy Days key chains that you have created.

Sounds like the best idea I've ever heard. What do you guys think?

(I know we've been asking for this for many years on countless of times, but thank you for letting me vent)

Dear Columbia House,
I am looking for the episodes of Happy Days. Do you have any projection dates of when DVDs (or VHS) of Happy Days may be released?
Many thanks,
Pat
Please respond at your earliest convenience. I will post your reply on the sitcomsonline.com/HappyDays web site.

I'm for that too, but I wonder why Paramount pictures has such an aversion to putting HD on tape? I would like to see the shows on VCR since DVD's are a bit expensive, but both would be okay. Why can't we set up an episodes exchange center where we can put up episodes & mail them to friends? I think that would be legal as long as no profit is made. We could write Paramount & explain that since the company refuses to put HD episodes on tape that we can do it ourselves. I hope they might grant permission.

I would love HD on DVD, I thought it would have been by now, since just about every other show is on DVD these days.

Wow, with all those extras, those DVD's would run into hundreds of dollars, that I wouldn't pay that much for even with all those extras. :(

TV Land does need to get it together, I hate when tv stations show shows out of order it's really annoying

I Think i know reason it hasnt been released yet. I Remember reading awhile back that WKRP Wouldnt be released on DVD Because of all the Music that was played on the radio station.

And of course you know, Their is alot of 50's Music on Happy Days. Especially in Arnolds

And i just dont think it would be the same if they dubbed oit all with Generic Music.

Okay, let's back up and punt. Let's say a company steps up to the plate and says, we can burn you 10 episodes on one DVD. Now if you're looking at the average DVD you're paying about $20 per DVD. Let's say this company has a DVD a month club for HD and drops the cost to about $15 or so per DVD if you subscribe to this club. Who can come up with $15 a month? It would take you about 2 years to get the entire series, but I'll bet between the change in your couch and the change on your dresser, you can come up with $15 a month.

Point taken, but what can you loose. Send one e-mail. If this idea is sitting dormid on someone's desk, it's doing us no good. If it's the music that is holding it up, we need to clear up this red tape by requesting the show. Put a fire under their feet.

I see a whole army of Happy Days Fans here on this board. It is time to take a stand and be heard.
What will you do with your free time?
Ei, e-mail Columbia House and ask for HD VHS and DVDs and you may be rejected.
Do it not, and you will save 15 to 20 seconds it would have taken you to send one e-mail.
And thirty years from now while you're lieing in your beds, what would you give from this day to that to return to this day and tell Columbia House, you may have All If The Family and Good Times on DVD and VHS, but you will not break our pride! WE WANT HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!
WE WANT HAPPY DAYS!!!
WE WANT HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!
WE WANT HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!!!!

If we accomplish nothing, let our voices be hear from every mountain peak that we stormed Columbia House with e-mails on this request. Let word get back to the cast and creators of Happy Days. Let them know that... WE STILL LOVE HAPPY DAYS!!!

E-mail Columbia House at video@columbiahouse.com

They say the more e-mail request for one show, the more Columbia House employees and effort is made to get that show on VHS and DVDs. If there is any red tape stopping this show from getting to VHS and DVD, let the fire under their feet be started with our countless e-mails.

6) Why is it that when the web site was up, it didn't have any listings of how to contact him except his e-mail?

7) Why does he only accept CASH or MONEY ORDER???

8) Would I be kicking myself in the butt if I spent all this money on DVD's dubbed from the TV and then they officially came out with uncut shows on DVD?

9) And if you're such a huge fan of the show to have the entire series available on DVD, why is this your first posting?

Please get back with us all.

Dear sir or ma’am,

I am writing you today to inquire about one of the most popular shows of it’s time and generations that follow. Happy Days has been a breath of fresh air as I was growing up as it still is today. Is there a projection date of when Happy Days will be released on DVD? When shows like All In The Family, Mary Tyler Moore, and Good Times have beat Happy Days to DVD, I wonder when Happy Days will be out. I have started purchasing Frasier in the DVD sets season by season and truly hope that Happy Days would be available in the same way.

If you are looking for some suggestions from die hard fans, here’s what I would suggest:
1.) Stations have cut portions of the shows to fit in more commercials so we would very much like the uncut versions.
2) Bonus features like bloopers, (cast and crew) interviews, even spinoffs like Joanie Loves Chachi, behind the scenes footage and/or deleted scenes.
3) Please make all 255 show available as well as the reunion show on DVD
4) Another idea would be a Happy Days DVD of the month club to offer discounts or extras like the reunion show on DVD.

I will post your response to the www.sitcomsonline.com/HappyDays.html message board.

Sincere thanks,
Patrick Councilor

You have to think that with soo many episodes it would be tough to get a company to commit to releasing the entire series, most likely we'd see something like a "best of" series. The best scenario that I can think of would be if they released it as say three box sets of four seasons each. If they are concerned that the later episodes wouldn't sell as well, they could throw in the reunion special and the juiciest of extras in the last set.

Nevertheless it gets my vote, I'm tired of watching the hackjob editing of the syndicated reruns on WGN - this mornings episode went to commercial IN THE MIDDLE OF Richie's fight with Fonzie!!!! (egad)

Give them time...it will happen. "Soap" just came out yesterday with it's first season on DVD. They probably have to go into the vaults and see what condition the masters are in.

Sometimes it requires extensive restoration to bring the quality up to snuff. I don't need surround...hell, if I can deal with mono on the MASH sets, I can deal with it on HD.

That's why you need to get them on DVD. In addition, you also get them unedited and without commercials. The MASH DVDs have a neat feature that allows you to watch them without the laugh track. Kind of a stupid thing to have on a filmed show that wasn't done in front of a live audience.

Also, with some syndicated shows, I notice that they seem to show certain episodes over and over, while other episodes are rarely, if ever seen.

As you probably know, TVShowsOnDVD site owner Gord Lacey spent today at the TV DVD Conference in Los Angeles.

During the conference, Paramount had a recorded presentation about their TV-to-DVD properties, and Happy Days was mentioned. There was no release timeframe given. Music issues may still affect this release; we really don't know what the status of that situation is. Stay tuned, and we'll have details for you when they become available.

I would probably get the first season of Mork And Mindy and leave it at that.

As for Happy Days, it's no secret that I'd stop with season seven.

It would be cool if they could have the original promos as bonus features and perhaps a documentary. But for some reason, most of these older TV show DVDs tend not to have much, if anything, in the way of extras.

Here's what TVSHOWSONTV.com had to say about the picture above:

How about this awesome cover art? Richie, Potsie, Ralph Malph, and The Fonz adorn this jukebox-style cover that Paramount has been showing off to distributors for the past couple of weeks, but haven't released to the media so far. Perhaps that means it's not the final version of the art? Maybe, maybe not, but we managed to get our grubby little paws on a copy of this, and wanted to share it with our readers:

Don't be a Potsie and pass this up: Aug. 17th will see the 3-disc collection hit the stores, featuring all 16 episodes form the series' classic first season. Included are fan-favorite episodes like "All The Way," where Richie dates a girl with a "reputation"; "The Lemon," where Richie and Potsie buy a less-than-dependable car; and "Fonzie Drops In," where The Fonz decides to re-enroll in high school.

We are dancing 'round the clock here in anticipation of this release. If the cover art gets changed, or if any further details about this package come forward, we'll be sure to let you know, so stay tuned.

I just now did some figuring out: The total time is 383 minutes, which means each episode is about 23 minutes long. I think the episodes on tv-land & WGN are roughly 20 minutes. Does that mean we might see some lost scenes from the earliest shows? Like the one in which Chuck is seen in "Give the Band a Hand."

I would hope that it's automatic that these episodes will be complete and uncut, as originally made. What would be the point otherwise. I'm really only interested in the first 2 seasons, shot on film with all the outdoor scenes.

Not just that... but hopefully they'll release it with the original music. (ex. Bye Bye Love in the scene outside of Arnold's where Howard goes into Arnold's looking for Potsie and Richie in "The Lemon").

In the syndicated version of Happy Days some spots have "generic oldie music" in place of "real' songs. (ex. Bye Bye Love, You Send Me, Wake Up Litttle Suzie, etc).

I have Happy Days recorded from a while ago and it has different music than these "later" airings.

Other episodes that contain these songs are:

The Election episode (Eisenhower VS Stevenson) - opening during credits (Wake Up Little Suzie)

The one where Richie thinks he has Mono from kissing Fonzie's girlfriend : the scene where they are at Inspiration Point (You Send Me)

The Holloween episode where Ralph comes out of the coffin, then everyone comes out from hiding where Potsie says Happy Holloween -- (Bye Bye Love plays in background)

Same episode - when everyone is dancing and Ralph turns out the lights (they are dancing to You Send Me)

There are other places that I can't think of at the moment.

The DVDs are COOL, but they are lacking in any special features. The scenes that were removed for commercial spots have been added as well as other scenes never before seen on TV. Some of the episode seem like the same as on TV. Here is one shot never before seen on TV.

The picture below has Ralph working under his car, he's wearing a reed jacket and the person walking across the parking lot in blue is Richie, but check out the sign on the restaurant.

Hi thank you so much for anwsering my question. But let me ask you this, in the vary first episode of ALL THE WAY are they actually
showing a scene where richie and postie are playing baseball on the field and tossing the baseball to each other? And who so ever posted a clip of the picture where ralph malph is looking underneath his car is cool, now i have never seen that in the syndication versions especailly the reruns that tv land is running.
When i run out and buy the dvd, i pray and hoped that paramount pictures has edited back the original lost footages that has been cut from the syndicated version, i hate when that happpens, i heard that when happy days ran many years ago, it was a 30 minute show which ran 25 minutes long, and now it is only 22 minutes. I hate that especially the way tv shows are shown now. Ihope season 2 comes out soon too. Let me asked you this one question, i noticed that whenever a classic show like happy days, which has been shown on its original telecast goes into syndication, they cut huges chunks of footages, but when a show comes on to the dvd, how do the company who owns the rights to the series, go back and edited back in the original scenes as well as the original music which has been replaced with generic music or whatever that is? Once again thanks again puppy love

Hi pat i saw both pictures of the show that you posted up, is very cool. I did not no that the picture clip that you posted up was never before seen on the syndicated version or the original ABC broadcast. The episode in which Ralph is looking inside of his car, what episode was that unseen footage seen in? And if you do have the first complete season series, what other unseen footages which is not shown on the syndication version? I would love to see another clip posted up, that is if you can later

Puppylove,
I have NEVER seen that scene before. Of course, I was a lot younger than I am now when that first aired. There are not too many deleted scenes that I have not seen before on the box set. I was hoping for more behind the scenes and interviews, but I am not complaining...

Happy Days 4ever!!!!!

I'm heading back home for Christmas, but I will watch my box set again when I get back and try to get back with you about more deleted scenes.
Thanks,

Puppylove,
Sorry, that scene you are looking for was gone just for the intro to Happy Days. It was not in the first ep. except for the music intro. The producers did this for several shots like when Al slips and showers Richie with French Fries while the guys are in the booth - also made for the intro. There are many other small takes they use in the intros that are actually part of the show though.
Hope that helps,
~ Pat

Hey thanks alot i really apperciate you taking the time to anwering my question, but when you do get back from your christmas vacation to watch the dvd again please find out if richie and potsie are tossing the baseball to each other on the baseball field, because i kept on seeing a clip of that in Richie Almost Dies when Heather is singing and playing the piano at the cunningham house, and in the Passage where Mr. C is saying goodbye to everybody, once again thanks puppylove.

I've been asked several times about the intro to Happy Days and if the scenes from the intros were simply scenes that were cut from the shows through the years. Many of you have a good idea that most of these scenes were not part of the show but just made for an intro to the show. My next few posts will help clear this up. Let's take a look at a few shots from this first episode and the into scenes that were never part of the show (at least, if they were, they were not added back to the DVDs)

This first shot is the shot where Richie is combing his hair in the bathroom mirror at Arnold's (Arthor's in episode One). The shot moved back to Potsy combing his hair behind him and a guy combing his crew cut behind him.

Second Shot is when the driver puts the top up to his convertable and catches his date's fake pony tail in the process.

Third shot, we find Richie and Potsy double dating at the movie theater. When their hands touch, they both pull their hands back

Fourth shot, Richie and Potsy wave to the waitress and she accidentally dumps the food of tray on the cop.

Fifth scene, Ralph falls out of the car when he goes to kiss his date. ((Wait a minute - take a closed look at the girl!!! Isn't that the girl from a later episode whom Richie has as a study partner and writes "I (heart) (sheep)" on the sidewalk???))

More on this topic in my next post...

Pat

Ah, the baseball scene has been brought up to me many times.

Remember in some Happy Days intro where Richie catches a grounder and tosses it to Potsy and Potsy throws it in?
I found this scene in the 1st Ep "All the Way".
It is after Richie's date and just before everyone asking him if "he did".
If this is not the footage used in later intros, then it must have inspired the filming for the intro clip.
You be the judge.

Personally, I don't think this is the scene, because I believe that Richie lobs the ball to Potsy when they are in the same frame. I could be wrong.

Pat
01-08-2005, 04:35 PM
Here are a few more del scenes.

Scene 1: Potsy walks through "Arthor's Drive In" looking for Richie. He is about to got into the men's room to show Richie how to unstrap a bra from the radiator.

Scene 2: Potsy has just gotten caught by Fonzie trying to take the bra off the radiator. Potsy catches up with Richie to give him a last minute pep talk.

Scene 3: Richie is walking by when Ralph asks, "Hey Cunningham, where you going?"

Scene 4: Richie replies: "All the way" and Ralph smacks his head on his car hood.

Scene 5: Ah yes, the deleted proof that they did play chess.

True, but the difference is that Friends was a top-rated network show when they began pumping out the DVDs. HD is an old show that appeals to an older audience and that's the audience the entertainment industry has always and will always go after.

We'll get Season Two eventually...provided season one has the right sales figures.

Happy Days - Happy Days Again? Maybe!
Posted by David Lambert
2/24/2005

Six months ago saw the release of Happy Days - The Complete 1st Season on DVD, and fans loved it. So much that six months feels like a loooong time in the TV-on-DVD business to them, because we routinely get questions about the second season of it (and Laverne & Shirley as well). Nothing's been said by the folks at Paramount, though...until now!

Yesterday's edition of The Wall Street Journal (2/23/05, Section B) had a story by Merissa Marr and Joe Flint entitled "DVDs Are Finally Paramount". The article explains that previous management figures had a strategy of bringing titles - film and TV based - to DVD in a slow and steady fashion, and that new management in place now has a different plan of increasing the studio's revenue by way of cutting loose on the library.

Much of this has been reported already, at the time that the executives did their shuffle in recent months, and it wasn't exactly news we could use here at TVShowsOnDVD because no actual titles were brought up. But the Wall Street Journal story is naming names!

Among those names are "The Cunninghams" and "The Fonz". Mentioned in the story are a number of shows that Paramount intends to release in the near future, in order to drive their profits and therefore the stock value at parent Viacom. Happy Days is mentioned as being among the titles they are keeping in mind.

Howeve, the article continues with a lot more information. Here are some selected quotes from the story (we encourage you to pick up a copy of the paper, or purchase it through the WSJ online site, and read the article in its entirety):

Paramount estimates that...95% of its TV library (has) yet to be released on DVD. The studio is expected to deliver 25%-30% growth in movie and TV DVD sales this year, with margins reaching as high as 50%.

...growth in sales of TV DVDs are expected to outperform other DVDs...

...The biggest boost ahead is expected to come from TV DVDs. Viacom already has a thriving kids DVD business, thanks to Nickelodeon. While Paramount has released 35 TV DVDs in 2002, that will jump to 220 this year. As a general rule, TV DVDs are more profitable to a studio. However, the expense of renegotiating the actors and producers, and clearing the music rights, can sometimes cut into profits. On the first season of "Happy Days," for instance, it cost almost $1 million just to get the music clearance.

The last time we spoke with the studio about Happy Days, the clear indication was that it was the various licensing costs - music and otherwise - that was at issue on this release, and perhaps others like Laverne & Shirley. It sounds like they are working the numbers there at Paramount, and getting these releases worked out. The Wall Street Journal story doesn't say anything further about Happy Days other than what we've already mentioned, but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated if we hear anything further.

American DVD:s are Region 1, European DVD-players require Region 2. However, most DVD-players can be hacked to region-free, meaning that they accept any region code. Some players are region-free already when sold. I ordered my Happy Days DVD-set from Canada and hacked my European DVD-player. Works beautifully. All it took in my case was to download a small file, burn it on a CD and insert the CD in the DVD-player. That was it.

Check this and see how to hack your player:

I sent an e-mail to columbia house just now to please consider putting future seasons out on dvd. everything else is coming out, stuff that only lasted 1, 2, & 3 seasons, & some of it was not as good, either. I told them to respond asap because HD deserves to be issued on dvd along with extras & behind the scenes. They don't realize that everyone would probably snatch HD up because it's behind on being issued, and everyone would flock to the stores and get it. HD is one of my all-time fave shows, BTW!!!!

Please treat this as a rumor, but we've received reliable news that CBS/Paramount has plans to release the second season of Happy Days on
 April 17, 2007
roughly 2.5 years after the release of season 1. This is GREAT news for fans that assumed the series had been shelved due to poor sales and high music costs, though there's always the possibility season 2 will contain substituted music (we don't know if it will though, we're just bringing it up). This news isn't official until we hear an announcement from the studio, so please treat it as a rumor until then. The second season set will be joined by season 2 of Laverne and Shirley, both shows saw season 1 releases on August 17, 2004.

Here's a list of the season 2 episodes:

1. Richie Moves Out
2. Richie's Car
3. Who's Sorry Now?
4. You Go to My Head
5. ROTC
6. Haunted
7. Wish Upon a Star
8. Not with My Sister, You Don't
9. Big Money
10. A Star Is Bored
11. Guess Who's Coming to Christmas
12. Open House
13. Fonzie's Getting Married
14. The Cunningham Caper
15. The Not Making of the President
16. Cruisin'
17. The Howdy Doody Show
18. Get a Job
19. Fonzie Joins the Band
20. Fish and the Fins
21. Richie's Flip Side
22. Kiss Me Sickly
23. Goin' to Chicago

...now wait a minute, in the Happy Days article in Wikipedia it says that season 3 DVD set should come out in september 17th

Where is that "information" from? I haven't seen it anywhere else.

Can't always trust Wikipedia. In fact, I'd almost go so far as to say to never "trust" it... But I have no idea about Season 3 being released on DVD. Haven't heard anything.

Is that a bootleg or what?
most definitely - ANY website selling the "Complete Series" for a show that hasn't been commercially released is an illegal bootleg site (I'm removing the link because we don't want to advertise for them here) .

usually they are absolute crap quality, recorded off of TV or stolen from traders, incomplete and definitely a rip-off.

its best to stay away from "deals" like those and wait for the official versions or get into trading for the shows that aren't getting released.

Laverne & Shirley season 4 has been announced to being released in April, 2008. But this is the first time that HAPPY DAYS season 4 hasn't been announced with Laverne & Shirley.

Do you think they are no longer releaseing them at the same time? or does anyone think Happy Days will stop?

I love BOTH shows, and buy both shows as well, but I prefer to see Happy days more than Laverne & Shirley.

OK, that is a possibility and I too hope it improves sales, IF that is the case, but they could at LEAST announce it's release at the same time, even if it DOES have a differant release date. This is scareing the fans.

Hopefully that is just the temp, rough draft of the cover. The others have looked much better I would be surprised if this was final.

Hopefully on one of the upcoming season sets there will be a bonus feature about the new Fonz statue in Milwaukee and all the events today. Paramount would not need to even do much. Just edit together all the local news coverage. I am sure the local channels would approve. I was tempted to ask Gary Marshall if he has any input on the DVDs. But if he does I was afraid it would come off as a criticism that there have been no features.

Along with that the 2 reunion specials should be included. They are already made. No work needs to be done. At the least those should be one future sets.

The weird part is that the lighting on all their faces is different. Fonz and Potsie are from the same picture which was taken outdoors in sunlight and natural shadows. While Ralph was also photographed outside the sunlight was coming from a different angle. While Ritchie clearly was photographed indoors.

Happy Days must be the LONGEST series to be completed on DVD. Season 1 got released in August of 2004....12 years ago, and we ONLY have 6 seasons. That's an average of 1 season every two years. Well, the last season got released on December 2 2014.....the 2 year anniversary is just about upon us, so it's TIME for season 7.

I sure HOPE so anyway. The wait is SO exhausting.

I would say the music rights has been the holdup with the releases but they cut all the music out so I'm just going to say the main holdup is that CBS Paramount sucks. They've also been dragging out The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction. These are 3 absolute classics that should've been completed YEARS ago!

a this point i think the only way they release any more seasons it would be a MOD release or something - there probably isn't enough demand to justify a full release for the later seasons, although you'd think with the number of other old shows being re-released by other studios in budget sets and complete series box sets that eventually we'd get something.

Once again another bump, but, the last episode of the season 6 DVD, Mork Returns, gives no closure to any of the characters. If they released a season 7 DVD, we'd atleast have closure to Richie and Ralph. But the season 6 finale, Mork Returns, provides no closure to any of the characters. Now, everybody wants a season 7 DVD. I could see why they won't release seasons 8-11 cause they know they won't sell. But, season 7, idk.

Yes, releasing season 7 would give some proper closure to the main characters, Ritchie and Ralph.

It's also the season that Jonnie starts dating Chachi, and this season marks the end of Arnolds before the show upgraded it into that horrible '70s wooden decorated Al's. It would be much more appropriate to end on that, than season six.

I have a question about the episodes that aired after the wedding finale in 1984. Does anyone know the order to watch those five episodes before the wedding episode? I want to view them in the correct order they would have aired if they hadn’t been kept for the summer months because of the 1984 Olympics. If anyone could tell me I would appreciate it so much. 250. School Dazed
251. So How Was Your Weekend?
252. Good News , Bad News
253. Fonzie Moves Out

That’s the production order of how they were filmed. I’m going to watch the whole series after not seeing it for years. I’m starting with watching the complete “Joanie Loves Chachi” series. Then I’ll watch “Happy Days”.
