I just saw this episode for the first time last night. I wasn't too crazy about it. I don't know, something about Rob hitting Laura in the nose just made me really uncofortable. Yes, I know he did by accident, but for some reason it didn't sit well with me. I was just wondering what other fans' thoughts were about this episode.

Well, Kristen,
Considering it was an accedent, I think it's hilarious. Anyone who's ever played too rough with a loved one and has either hurt them or been hurt by them accedentally, can easily identify with poor Rob and Laura's experience!

The thing that annoys me about this episode is Jerry. The kidding is so annoying! Don't you know anyone like that, you know, someone who just doesn't know when to quit? That's what drives me crazy. It doesn't bother me when Rob accidentally hits Laura. My husband accidently hit me once. It was in the middle of the night, he was sound asleep and I was rudely awakened when his big fist came crashing down on my face when he was turning over in his sleep! He felt really awful about it! We laugh about it now and I don't hold it against him! Lolac

I feel the same way about Jerry when I see this episode. I think even Millie would've been willing to hold Jerry while Rob hit him! Overall I enjoyed the episode and would like to play "dime-store psychologist" for a minute as to Jerry's behavior:

Perhaps Jerry teased Rob because he has some jealousy issues* regarding Rob's success. (Any thoughts?)

Regarding the accidental "pop" in the nose:
Again, I'm in agreement with you primarily because Rob was openly remorseful about it. Therefore, I find it difficult to be disturbed by it. If he blew it off like it was no big deal, then I'd be peeved.

I agree about Jerry's behavior. I mean, telling other people how bad the show was just to annoy Rob was crossing the line! I have to admit, though, that I enjoyed the ending where Rob "tripped" over that truck. It was great to see Jerry finally get his just deserts!

That episode was not your ordinary DVD episode. Jerry was truly getting on everyone's nerves. Rob looked honestly angry. Millie told Jerry he'd gone too far for too long, and aplogized to Rob and Laura. Even Laura told Jerry that she didn't appreciate his incessant teasing. It was a tense episode. I got the feeling that it was strongly based on some of the casts and crews real life experiences.

this is one of my least favorite episodes of the Dick Van Dyke show. I don't find its theme or execution very funny at all.

Jerry could be a cut-up, but they gave him a personality overhaul to fit this one particular episode. It felt too contrived. He was just irritating.
Rob hitting Laura didn't bother me. It was an accident.
