I recently bought The Monkees: Season One yesterday, I have watched a few episodes, but it dosen't have that restored quality that I was looking for, but it's alright. I like the compact keepcase it came in, along with the variety of all six disks in a box set, the disks come in some of The Monkees record album covers, which I think was clever. I also like the dozen of features that are available. I think it is worth buying, eventhough the price is a bit expensive for this set, it contains half of the series along with many features, which is great to have at home to watch whenever I want to.

I have both the season 1 set and the live DVD and both are wonderful! It's so great to have some of the eppys on DVD-I was getting nervoius about watching my VHS set because I don't want to wear it out. The commentarys and the extras are great too. I love the live DVD too, It's great to have a good quality copy of the live show, although I would have prefered it uncut.

I have been watching an episode, just about everyday since I bought it, In fact I'm watching an episode right now as I'm writing this. I'm really enjoying this DVD set and I agree, there might be a little dust left over on the DVD, but the picture quality it clearer as it ever has been before. I'm looking foward to watching more episodes in the next couple of days. I can't wait until Season 2 is released on DVD.

Some of the episodes weren't in the best of shape, but these are the best prints of the shows Rhino could get their hands on...

Actually, that's a bit misleading... these are the original prints, so this is as restored as the series is gonna get.

Guess someone didn't take the preservation of The Monkees too seriously between '68 and '86.

I want to buy the season, but I can't find it anywhere. I do have the VHS of every episode. So I can watch any episode, it's just I want the commentary.

Commentarty wise, it's hit and miss.

Mike Nesmith is the Monkee who doesn't shut up. And that's a good thing. The Tork or Jones commentaries have some rather long silences in them.

Bob Rafelson talked more than Nesmith did.

James Frawley was informative.

No Micky Dolenz this time around.

I purchased mine on the very morning of its release @ Tower Records & Video...and on sale, too!

And you'll be interested to know that I had a hand in constructing the Season One DVD set...the Episode Trivia you see in the set are courtesy of me, Aaron Handy III, and one of my webpages, The Monkees Film & TV Vault @ members.tripod.com/~ahiii/monkeesfilmTV.html (http://members.tripod.com/~ahiii/monkeesfilmTV.html) (and lots of help I got; far be it for me not to give some credit where its due!). Some of the trivia you see is accurate, some is not (I have since updated several of the data in my webpage), but its still entertaining and informative. :D :talk:  :happyface   ;)

I bought season one Tuesday. I love the box the dvd's are in. I love how each dvd looks like a little record and each has its own cover. I liked all the commentaries except Rafelson. He had too many uhs, ehs umms and ahs in his talking. Like he was trying to remember lines and forgetting the words. The picture quality, I think, is sharp and clear and better than when TV Land was running them from June-August 2002. The only thing I didn't like was NO commentaries from Micky. Micky is my favorite Monkee. I'd love to hear his thoughts and comments on some of these episodes. Well, I've said all I wanted to say on this subject.
:talk: to you later...if I don't forget .

I guess Micky couldn't do commentaries because of Aida, but he is still supposed to do them for the second season set, right Aaron?
