That a successful film does not mean it will find success on TV. Movies such Fast Times at Richmond High, Ferries Bueller's Day Off Private Benjamin were later made into TV series with no
success. I came to dislike the actors playing the roles made famous by somebody else. My suggestion to TV producers leave a successful film alone.

Yeah, I know, the three you mentioned (FAST TIMES< FERRIS, WEDDING) will live forever while the shows will be forgotten. Hwoever, Nia Vardolos of My Big Fat,etcIIRC reprised the title role.(I'm Greek myself and enjoyed it!)
BTW Has anyone noted the similiarity between this and Hanna-Barbera;'s 1972 WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME which had a teenage daughter (former EDDIE's FATHER costasr TIna Holland) named ALice who had some things in common with the lead GREEK WEDDING character: she was chunkky, female, and bespecatacled, and had trouble finding a guy IIRC.
TV SHOWS will never be cult favorites if based on cut movie.s.
And now, from the FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH cast, Jennifer Jason leigh's Stacey character as played by.....
Courtney THorne SMith (obviosuly from the Ally era)

"M*A*S*H*" and "In the Heat of the Night" both did well.

I'm glad it failed cause Nia Vardalos was getting a swelled head and the cancellation I'm sure let some air out of her head.

i heard nia vardalos never wanted to do the show in the first place, and she asked that it not be renewed. i think it was entertainment weekly that said this, plus lainie kazan said it in an interview.

I think the show would have been better as a comedy drama in the vein of Eight is Enough instead of just a sitcom. I myself am Greek and enjoyed the movie very much, but the sitcom could have been much better.
