Hi everyone- on Monday I have to pick a topic, 7 or given or we can do our own, we're doing speeches in front of the class (I never understand it- when I do a speech my leg shakes but in Primary School assemblys when I'm dancing and singins not nervous!?) Anyway- does anyone have a great idea for a topic. If soo post a few points bout it maybe too- I need to wrap it up in around 3 minutes, you can go to 5- but I don't want to due to being nervous. Anyway- the other 7 are all clichés, School Uniforms, School Leaving Age, Mobile Phones, Do kids have it easy,

There's animal rights too- which I strongly believe in but find hard to sum up- because animals DO have rights. I wrote out a speech completely against all the ongoing wars, it has to be something easy enough to remember, and if I'm stuck just a few cards handy to remind me. I'm not sure if I'll do the war thing- I know hardly anyone will do it, but though I'm anti-war, I'm also anti-anti-war-protesting because in our school it's a mockery and complete farce. Another thing is football hooliganism, something that's been done to death along with mobile phones. Most doing about football do it with some over confident attitude and jsut list events of football violence- with no original oppinions or material given.
OT: Today, and next week our class goes to this 'Shakespeare' cross community thing. Anyway today was for three hours, next week 6. Today there was no sight of anything shakespere- the two most fruitiest, childrens presenter-type robots presented the thing, It was like motivational speaking. Get into two circles talk to person in front, then move to your left and talk to next person. Then we played kids games, like fruit-bowl (a variation of musical chairs or duck duck goose) and with partners spell letters of the alphabet. The excuse- it's a warm up, who warms up and then doesn't do the excercise. Anyway- I think next week they're making us act, cos they said today- everyone's an actor in life, and said something about doing romeo and juliet- and our teacher said we'd be doing alot of talking next week. It's better than school, some was ok- but it's so darn cheesy.

I'm in a speech class right now. It sounds like oyur teacher wnats you to do a persuasive speech.let me think if I can think of speeches some people have done. Hmm... underaged drinking, should they raise the age of when you get your drivers license, are IQ tests an actual measurnment of intelligance (that's the one I did), you shouldn't feed marine animals, camera's in schools ( like the oens they use to see if kids are misbehaving). That's all I can think of. hope it hlepd

I think animal rights is a good one. I did a debate on that for debate team and lemme tell ya...it was one kick-ass speech...all I got was praise and none of the other ppl on my team did (not to brag or NEthing ;))

But...it's easy to find things for it...here...I'll help ya start...ASPCA person undercover videotaped a trainer to use a blowtorch to remove hair off elephant's skin and dug bullhooks into their skin, twisting it around until the elephant's were screaming in pain. Fun stuff. And little Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Circus...all innocent...all sweet...yea right...little 3 year old innocent Asain elephant Kenny died after being forced to perform 3 times in a row while obviously ill.

Ok, I'm done sharing...

Animal rights is a great topic, you can get a lot out of that one.

Hmmm...in sixth grade I did a speech on the Brady Bunch...that didn't go too well.

You might want to do something that you know a lot about, and that you're interested in...so you don't have to do a lot of research. ;)

Do it on something you like, that way you sound better when you're giving the speech. If I had to give a speech on anything itd be on TV and the media.

OK- I did the animal rights speech, I was nervous anyways. OK- last year a 1st second third and fourth were picked, with only first reading at the final, the other three attending and acting as backups if first isn't in- to either read first's speech, if we have a copy- or our own entry. Anyway- this year a rank order wasn't given, just three people for the final, and I'm in it! I think we all have to read. Anyway- basically everyone in the class had a shorter speech than last years- and three more need to read but I doubt they'll be in at all in time for the competition- ending I think on friday. So, all being well I'm at the final. I'm even more nervous now- I shook like hell, you aren't allowed to sit down, and worse must stand at the front. I'm VERY comfortable with sitting in my own seat reading things I've wrote- but when it comes to reading anything at all standing up, I'm nervous, and in fornt of the class double nervous. So, I'm going to find a method of staying calm and not shaking, cos I doubt I'll be allowed to sit down- it'd probably be unfair to those reading before me having to stand up. I've always wanted to act, and fear critiscism. Even though you're acting on stage in front of strangers, you know they're waiting for you to screw it up, and critiscising. I hope to get enough confidence. I hate working with some people- cos some groups you join aren't organised by responsible people- so the kid with the loudest voice rules it all, that's why I don't want to join one of the few acting societies. The bring it on thing went to europe to meet one of the stars of the film Thanx anyways

animal rights - heres one. I bought some glass fish the other day, they are called painted glass fish. They were so pretty. I looked them up on the net when i got home, because i wanted to send my friend to a page with a pic on it. All over the net it says how they are regular glass fish injected with colored dye. Their slime coat is destroyed to allow them to maintain the color. I was so po'd i wanted to cry - i had no idea. They both died within several days, although my other fish are thriving. It said on the net they often dont live long because of this process.
A lot of people have no idea this kind of stuff goes on - i sure didnt. I wanted to go down to that disrepitable piece of crap store and smack the guy who encouraged me to buy them.

#@%^%* %(&%#$ !!!!!!!!

Are these glass fish meant to be fish made out of glass that people buy for false aquariums, or proper fish, that are altered as a new breed. I want to expand my speech- our teacher said he'll probably help us improve our speeches and speech giving techniques- though there'll be little time for improvement in class- so I'm gonna research more things- the chinese do alot of uneccessary animal slaughtering. It's evil that people are sold things appealing to them and to large audiences, yet are never told about the bad and dark side of it all. Muslims aren't supposed to eat certain types of pork, or any pork I think- and a while ago they found out many big restaurants, along with KFC pump chicken full of pieces of pork too cos it's cheaper and makes more product- and some places don't label food properly- cos certain religions only eat meat in certain conditions etc. People are being tricked.

these fish are glass catfish (real fish, this is the name) and they are gorgeous - they really do look like glass. to become painted glass fish, they are injected with dye.

i found tons of stuff typing painted glassfish on google.

http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art7686.asp

heres the first site i found with a pic. i got 2 green ones and named them mork and mindy, before i knew what was going on.

I am a little bit relived they died so quick, because i felt like a criminal just having them - i cant believe i exchanged MONEY for them. I would have GIVEN them back to the store (they offer no refunds) if i didnt think the stress of switching tanks again would
kill them right off. I knew it was coming, i am just glad it was quick.
i think im going to write to my local paper so other people can know what a JERK pet store the place is.

DetectiveGriffin thanx for the whole info on the glass fish- that is terrible- injecting an animal to change its look so people like the appearance, ppl go 2 far. anyway couple days ago went to the library in school to rewrite speech and found 2 books on animal cruelty- very cruel images- and then I delivered speech to librarian there- wasn't as nervous as first time giving my speech. Then the final was today- not as nervous as delivering it in class first- but more nervous than in library. Didn't win :( but liked it that I could get my argument accross to protect animals.
