After Fonzie became so popular, the producers contemplated changing the name of the show from "Happy Days" to "Fonzie's Happy Days." Did they think that this would boost the show's ratings? How about you? Do you think it would have affected the show's ratings at all, for better or worse? Well, I'm adding a poll question here to determine if the name change would have changed your mind about watching the show. Also, if you'd like, tell what affects you think it would have had on the overall ratings for the show.

Personally, I don't think it would have changed the ratings at all...but who knows.

I think it would have changed it- for the better and the worse. I personally wouldnt have liked it if they did, but there would be all the crazed fans of Fonzie and I think more of them would tune in more to see that Fonzie had his "own" show. I think wouldve become just a bit more popular- but not by a lot.

I don't think it would have affected the show, but I don't think it would have been fair to the cast. I think Ron was going to leave if the name of the show was changed to Fonzie's Happy Days.

Don't like that idea at all. It could have caused alot of tension and anger with the castmates of HD. I like Fonzie, but if they wanted to do that, then they should have just gave him a spin off.

It wouldn't have affected my love of the show any. However everyone was against the idea, including Henry Winkler.

Yeah, it was common knowledge that the entire cast and crew was agianst a name change. The reason it WASN'T changed was because they all threatened to quit. Personally, I was so young back then, and loved the show so much, that I wouldn't have cared if they changed the name to "Poopy Head Theater"...I would've kept watching nonetheless. But no, it wouldn't have been fair. IMO, the show was NOT about just Fonzie, it was about the Richie/Fonzie dynamic...and after Richie left, it was about the Fonzie/Cunningham Family dynamic, with a little Fonzie/Chachi dynamic thrown in. (I know, that's ALOT of dynamics.) It was stressed time and again, though, that Fonzie would not be who his was w/o Richie, and even after Ron Howard left the show, that continued to be stressed. (Come to think of it, in the later years Fonzie started giving more "Richie-sounding" advice. Hmmm.)

Actually I heard on tv that Ron Howard threatened to leave the show before 1980 because he heard that Garry Marshall wanted to title the show "Fonzie's Happy Days." Actors usually are picky about show titles.

I would have still watched it, probably wouldn't have affected how I watched it at all, but I dont think it would've been fair to Ron Howard and the rest of the cast, I'm glad they didn't change it.

I really respect what Gary Marshall and the others did to keep it as "Happy Days" but come on - this is the greatest show ever. I couldn't pull away from it.

Yeah that is. I can imagine that now...

"What are you watching on TV?"
"Cool"
"I didn't ask how the show was, I asked what the show was?"
"It's Cool"
"No, not how the show is, WHAT it is!"
"The show is Cool!"
"I don't care how cool the show is!!! Just tell me the name!!!"

oh chad, you crack me up....I could see a dialogue like that in "dude wheres my car" or something like that

Now everyone knows Fonzie is my favorite character. I'd stop watching HD if he left (of course he didnt leave, but you get my drift)
But I think changing the name to "fonzie's happy days" would have been unfair and stupid. I mean, there were other people in the cast, and since fonzie wasnt supposed to get SO popular, I think it would have been rubbing it in for ron howards, and that would have been mean.
I dont really think it would have affected the ratings or anything, but it wouldnt be nice.
