I'm just curious to know if most people here think Latka is funny or just annoying.
The same question can be asked about Jim Ignatowski.

View Full Version : Latka Gravas: Annoying or Funny? Adamantium 05-12-2003, 09:37 PM I'm just curious to know if most people here think Latka is funny or just annoying. The same question can be asked about Jim Ignatowski. Chocoholic 05-12-2003, 10:12 PM I like Latka. He's sweet. Reverend Jim is the best!   Brian 05-12-2003, 10:44 PM I love Latka. Andy Kaufman rocks! *PinkLady* 05-13-2003, 12:53 PM Funny at times, but mostly annoying. Same for Jim. *Melissa* 05-13-2003, 02:51 PM I thought they were both funny...especially Jim. Brian Damage 05-26-2003, 01:59 PM I thought that Latka was great! hoosierelvisfan 04-06-2004, 06:39 AM . . . . Latka was great UNTIL Latka turned into his alter ego, "Mr. Cool" or whatever it was. Why did they bring that aspect into the show????? Was that Andy Kaufman's idea???? I can only imagine that it was. For me, it ruined the show. Now THAT aspect was annoying. Signed, Respectfully, Dutch Brian Damage 04-13-2004, 10:36 AM You're thinking of Vic Ferrari and yeah that was annoying. snl75 09-28-2004, 02:14 AM very funny andy was one of a kind robyrob 10-02-2004, 07:37 AM loved 'em both :) Orville Kruger 10-02-2004, 08:35 PM ibida Funny. (both) Mads Andersen 10-28-2004, 10:15 AM I love Latka and I remember liking his alter egos - at one point he turned into Alex Rieger, which had me floored at all times. He's one of those charecters that gave Taxi an odd twist that, to me, has yet to be seen anywhere else. vashti1999 10-28-2004, 02:23 PM I love Latka, always loved seeing that character and hearing him speak. As Latka, he wasn't annoying at all. As Vic Ferrari...well, that's a different story. dlemond 10-28-2004, 02:35 PM Loved Latka. Simka? That is another story. Spats 02-18-2005, 03:49 PM Andy should have received an emmy for those alter ego episodes. He was amazing in those. TJL 02-18-2005, 05:33 PM Funny at the beginning of the series, annoying at the end. Pitooey 02-18-2005, 08:18 PM I never did like those 2 but i did like the show so I watched it and when they came on I would cringe. Skywalker 02-24-2005, 01:12 AM I always liked Latka. I never thought he was annoying. stratman 02-25-2005, 02:36 AM I never found his 'Thank you very much' line that funny. Mr. Television 02-25-2005, 04:16 AM I liked them both. Dean Winchester 02-28-2005, 05:40 PM even tho it's a well-known fact that Andy hated Taxi at this point, I still thought he was great. The first time he did Vic Ferrari in season 3, it was great, but then they did it too much. But I always thought him and Carol Kane were great together. Classicshowsgurl15 07-31-2007, 04:36 AM I thought that Jim was funnier than Latka. I kind of got annoyed with Latka. AB 07-31-2007, 06:31 PM Latka was ok, but he could get on your nerves. Jim was so much funnier than Latka. Mikado 07-31-2007, 10:09 PM Funny at the beginning of the series, annoying at the end. :yeahthat treky 08-01-2007, 02:26 AM I thought they were both funny; mostly Jim. I didn't like Latca much torward the end; though. morkfromork 09-04-2007, 08:15 PM they're both funny as hell, but Latka is my favorite character on the show. catlover79 05-10-2008, 12:47 PM I never was crazy about Latka - I think the show could've done just fine without him (and did, since Andy Kaufman was only contracted to appear in only 7 of every 13 episodes produced). On the other hand, I loved Jim and feel the show just got better once he arrived on the scene. "Hoooooookey doke!!!" MrRetro_08 05-11-2008, 02:30 PM He was ok at times c_note 01-10-2013, 05:19 AM Currently re-watching Taxi and to be honest I find Latka annoying to the point of distraction. I realise the actor is very talented but can't stand the character. I do think Jim is good. The show was good enough to handle the loss of Wheeler but I liked him and thought the actor brought something different to the show. markaleen 01-18-2013, 06:20 AM I love Latka!! He's so cute and funny <3 youtube downloader MikeLutton 01-19-2013, 11:29 PM i liked jim better Latka never made me laugh mabye a few times sorry for spelling errors shotzette 01-20-2013, 06:37 PM Latka was funny in small doses. Andy Kaufman became a little grating when the producers decided that Latka would be "The Comic Relief Machine". Did love the episodes with Carol Kane as Simka, though. They had good chemistry and comic timing. cleverfun3000 01-21-2013, 10:33 PM http://i50.tinypic.com/34fbal4.png The Flying Dutchmans 03-27-2013, 11:36 AM Ladka was only funny to me when he had the split personalities. I loved when he did Alex. That was a comically genius episode. The funniest I think was Jim of course. No surprise that Christopher did his acting so well. He trained along side of Maryl streep. Neutronman67 03-27-2013, 12:08 PM He seemed kinda like he had down syndrome to me nothing he ever said in Taxi made since to me are the viewers, he was the most annoying character on the show. Yong Fang 03-28-2013, 08:35 AM I never liked Andy Kaufman, and I know this might be cruel to say, but him being dead more or less spared the World of 30 more years of his idea of "entertainment". His routines were so weird, the guy was a genius in his own mind. He wasn't funny. He was more cringeworthy than anything. One tasteless act of Kaufman was something called "Intergender Wrestling" where he would wrestle women. Not men, women. Unfortunately, no one could beat Kaufman for some reason (why, I dont know since he was such a scrawny jerk). In my hometown of Memphis, there was a successful wrestling promotion which had a Saturday Morning show and a Monday Night arena show with about 5-10,000 spectators. Kaufman came to Memphis to be a "heel", and he would work up the locals by basically being insulting. Kaufman called us hicks, inbreds, dirty, lacking hygene, fat, stupid, hillbillies, poor, you name it. It was an "act" but it came from the heart. Of course, the local wrestling promotion had no problems with this, the idea was to rile the rubes to pay for the Monday night show at the Coliseum. (This was behind the infamous coffee throwing incident between Kaufman and wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler on David Letterman). Watch "I'm from Hollywood". Probably can find it on YouTube. I have never seen the film "Man on the Moon" because (hate to be a downer) I am not a Jim Carrey fan and I was not a Kaufman fan at all..... Saying that, Latka was pretty good character, this was because Taxi was a very well made TV program with top writers and to Kaufman's credit, was a decent actor. But then Kaufman wanted to play a creep to match his personality and the writers gave Latka a double personality with Vic Ferrari or whatever his name was. Of course, Kaufman hated to be in a sitcom because it was beneath him. But yea, cancer is bad, but one can give it credit for killing Andy. Neutronman67 03-28-2013, 11:23 PM Andy Kaufman was really a strange guy in real life have any of you seen the movie Man on The Moon with Jim Carrey. Mr. Drucker 03-29-2013, 10:29 AM Kaufman was more of a fringe comic who had somewhat of a cult following, but I DO believe he was a genius, just a little hard to understand for fans of more traditional comedy schemes. Ignatowski 08-27-2020, 03:27 PM Hit and miss for me. I did like him, but like some others have said, in little doses. I really liked the episode when he was going to be a General in his "homeland" and the one when he rents the apartment thats too expensive. Chocolate Moose 08-28-2020, 09:25 AM Can I say "both"? SarahBellum 09-14-2021, 02:49 PM I liked him initially, but grew tired of him (and his other personalities) in subsequent seasons. icecream 09-14-2021, 03:12 PM Funny! Latka might have been the best part of Taxi. |
