View Full Version : Was Claire ever wrong about anything? TVFactFan 05-11-2003, 02:11 PM This woman annoyed the hell out of me. Ms.I know everything, I know what not to do, and I don't make mistakes. Did Claire's Perfectness irritate anyone else? *InThisMoment* 05-11-2003, 06:03 PM Nope.she was great! :D call-alluejah 05-13-2003, 05:30 PM I really thought this message board was made to talk about the different things we liked about the cosby show. Not reasons for why we hated it, if that was the case, why waste your time complaining. I must be mistaken....No comment at all, just an observation...a little pity though... I must be mistaken....No comment at all, just an observation...a little pity though... I liked the cosby show. But it's just certain things that bothered me that's all. We all have things we don't like about our favorite shows. So you must liked all the characters, all the episodes and all the guest stars. Please don't tell me that's true. Cashodeen 05-14-2003, 02:20 AM I came back to this thread because I was going to post my thoughts this weekend, but forgot. Gee, I'm glad I didn't let you all know what I really think of Clair, or some of you may have gotten a trama. Don't anyone think I automatically rally with SOLOMON, but he has got a point. Let's be real here. If these boards were really meant for only talking about what we like, they would be utterly boring. Not every aspect of a show, it's characters, or actors is perfect, and you all know that. So why not let some of us participate in interesting conversation and discuss various topics? Some of you may have no need to critique anything or debate with anyone, but others find it interesting. And call-alluejah, your post WAS a comment, not just an observation. Are you so afraid to just be upfront about your comments, you have to say it wasn't one, when it clearly was? call-alluejah 05-14-2003, 02:24 AM To tell you the truth, I really don't have any problem with the Cosby Show, I do love all the characters, and even if i did have a problem with one of the characters, personally I believe I would just appreciate that. But I do understand that there are things that could bother a fan with any show, and i do recognize that's what your trying to point out. It's just that it seems when i read the message board comments, It seems that they are grown from hatred of the character which is inside of the show, and it just comes across to me as an unappreciation of such a great show. But i do understand again that there are things that could bother a fan, i just look at the negatives as positives, truthfully. But i digress... ClesStahn 05-23-2003, 08:28 AM I agree with Cashodeen and SOLOMON; even though the show is great and I love it, Clair(e?) annoyed me sometimes. She had some pretty funny moments, and it's always fun watching her laugh after Bill does something goofy. But she didn't get on my nerves. I think she was at times a little too hard on Cliff. But that's what made their relationship work...:D Cashodeen 06-05-2003, 07:58 PM Originally posted by MonarC I think Clair was right about a lot of things and is a very smart woman andvery well educated. But that's what made their relationship work...:D Yeah it worked for the show, but in the real world a relationship like that would hardly work. Around here, we have a name for husbands like Cliff... Clair was STUUUCK UUUP. Being smart is one thing, but being conceited about it is another. And Cliff was just as "educated" as her. But yes, I agree, she ended up being correct about many things. And, I wouldn't change her character at all because it helped shape the show. But people in real life that act like that need a serious can o' whoop ass. TVFactFan 06-05-2003, 08:05 PM Originally posted by Cashodeen Yeah it worked for the show, but in the real world a relationship like that would hardly work. I'm not to seeing a stuck up mother on a sitcom. Cashodeen 06-05-2003, 08:15 PM Originally posted by SOLOMON EXactly, she was very stuck up. And i think that irritated me the Most. I'm not to seeing a stuck up mother on a sitcom. Do you think the show would have been better if she wasn't that way? I can't really decide. It's like I said, I wouldn't change the show, because her attitude shaped it (IE, gave her a chance to be right about everything, it let Cliff play the "goofball husband.") But on the other hand, I would often resent her behavior. I guess because I know the show is UNREALISTIC I can tolerate the attitude, but in my own life people like her irritate me. Fortunately, I don't really come across people like that. call-alluejah 06-07-2003, 04:12 AM Just a thought, but maybe you have been in contact with people like that, but u haven't known it. Claire's stuck up attitude really encountered the people that she knew closely, like her family. This could have been because she didn't want them to do wrong, and she thought she knew better(whether she did or not is a different story). But she was nice to people outside of the house and didn't really show the stuck up ness to those people(i think). She was a lawyer anyway, think about that. about 98.7 percent of lawyers are stuck up in some way. I'm not refuting that she was stuck up, just that maybe you have met those people before. just a thought.... But a far as coming in contact with people who "wear their stuck-upness on their sleeve," I've been lucky enough to dodge it. People best not try the stuck-up act with moi. She was a lawyer anyway, think about that. about 98.7 percent of lawyers are stuck up in some way. I'm not refuting that she was stuck up, just that maybe you have met those people before. just a thought.... LOL obviously you haven't met any lawyers around this area. About 98.7 percent are just ding-a-lings. Hmm, maybe I should be insulted when my guidence councelor in high school told me I should go to law school. She was serious! She wanted to stick me in a bunch of classes that would "prepare" me for it. DANG. call-alluejah 06-08-2003, 03:09 AM LOL theanswerman 07-01-2003, 12:24 PM Clair did mess up a couple times on the show, such as the episode Close to home, Denise and Clair go to a pottery class and Denises vase is perfect and Clairs is lopsided. I think that it is one of the first time that Clair was not perfect TVFactFan 07-01-2003, 08:18 PM Originally posted by fear the mullet Clair did mess up a couple times on the show, such as the episode Close to home, Denise and Clair go to a pottery class and Denises vase is perfect and Clairs is lopsided. She always spoke her mind, and told people what she thought, partly because of her lawyer background, that makes me think she wasn't fake. theanswerman 07-04-2003, 05:31 PM Well, she was a lawyer and lawyers have to be that way so they can win their cases. also, she was a very smart person and she knew what she was talking about TVFactFan 07-04-2003, 05:34 PM Originally posted by fear the mullet Well, she was a lawyer and lawyers have to be that way so they can win their cases. also, she was a very smart person and she knew what she was talking about But she didn't have to be that way at home theanswerman 07-04-2003, 05:47 PM but that was how she was. a smart know-it-all kind of person and i thought it was funny call-alluejah 07-05-2003, 12:30 AM In a way the "know it all " persona didn't really need to come home with her. so it must have been also just part of her personality. Because at home, who does she have to prove stuff too, she's the mom, and most people would argue she was the most authoritive person in the house. So she really didn't have to act like she knew it all, but she did anyway.Though it was funny, sometimes it was a bit much because, in a way you knew, that she would be right by the end of the show or later on. mstewart 07-10-2003, 10:00 PM Originally posted by call-alluejah Alright, she was a little stuck up, but i don't think she was fake. We are so used to seeing TV mom and/or wives having their hands tied, lips sealed and feet bind to a corner being the perfect understanding mom and/or wife. Clair Huxtable was not the one. She was her own person and Cliff allowed her and encouraged her to shine in her own forthright. The thing people fail to address is that Clair is very devoted to her family and wants what's best for all including the son-in-laws. I love the fact that Clair have a point of view and can be funny without being wacky. Cashodeen 07-11-2003, 01:35 AM Originally posted by mstewart I think it was her personality. I love the fact that Clair have a point of view and can be funny without being wacky. Wow. Well I am glad one of us can see beyond Clair's sneers, voice tone, and words to see that she had her family's best interest at heart. I think it sounds like I am being sarcastic, but I'm not. I don't think she was a tyrant and agree with you when you say she was devoted. I just think she went about it the WRONG way because she does come off as a stuck up. You can't tell me that a mother that gives dirty looks to her daughter's first apartment, tells her daughter to "CHANGE [HER MIND] BACK" when the daughter said she changed her mind about being a lawyer, is not a stuck up person, with at times, a bad attitude. Just look at a few episodes and pay attention to her facial expressions and the tone in her voice. She thought she was God's gift to all the right answers of the world. And she was downright mean to Cliff sometimes. I don't see how he stood it. Bad_Company 07-14-2003, 02:00 AM I think that Claire was pretty funny most of the time.....but she did kinda get after Cliff to much and put him into sticky situations which i didn't like....she kinda tried to control CLiff. Like whenever she would question him on things from the past and he couldnt remember....she would tackle and choke him- One episode i liked was when CLaire suggested to Cliff that they call their parents and tell them about the time the missed the Church picnic and instead went off and made out and stuff:lol: But i liked how Cliff got her good when he called and pretended to be talkin to his mom and it was really her mom.....Good Burn on Claire:D call-alluejah 07-15-2003, 03:00 AM Yea, that was good, i was even more surprised when she just hung up the phone on her own mother. That's crazy. "I don't see how he stood it" by Cashodeen: I think Cliff liked the way Claire was controlling and sort of bossy, he knew she did it out of love. And they both loved each other. That's how he could handle it. Cliff was the laid back type and could be very strong willed and intimidating when he wanted to even though he rarely did it. Like when he was gonna throw out Elvin in the dining room before he proposed to Sondra he yelled " SHut up" at Claire, and she looked so surprised and frightened. Also when Claire wouldn't come out because she couldn't fit into the dress for Cliff's banquet and he started to demand she come out, she gave in because he was assertive. Cliff can be a very strong person when he gets mad but i'm pretty sure he doesn't like to do it. huxtablefan11 07-15-2003, 04:11 PM Originally posted by call-alluejah To tell you the truth, I really don't have any problem with the Cosby Show, I do love all the characters, and even if i did have a problem with one of the characters, personally I believe I would just appreciate that.
