After seven seasons as the fast-living fashion maven Nina Van Horn on "Just Shoot Me," Wendie Malick is finally getting a chance to show off her maternal side.

Malick's new television pilot, "My Life With Men," features the ex-model as a woman in a house full of males.

"It's a big change for me," Malick told The Associated Press. "I'm living with my four sons, my husband, my father and a male dog that's not fixed. Basically I'm surrounded by testosterone."

Malick will know next week if ABC will add the show to its fall lineup. She also just completed a new film, "Bathroom Boy," in which she plays the mother of a boy who locks himself in a bathroom to do math equations. Her son is played by Justin Long of the NBC series "Ed."

Off-screen, Malick works hands-on with a number of charities including "fresh stART," an organization that provides art education and therapy to students from troubled backgrounds.

Malick, who attended a fund-raiser for the group Saturday night in Santa Monica, said she worries that art education is being cut from school curriculums during tight budget times.

"Art can make such a difference," she said. "I support anything to bring art into the equation in helping kids."
