Hello,
I am kinda new to this. I was just wondering what I should look for when i am purchasing tapes off of people from this site. I see a lot of posts about beware of scams. Can someone please give me some tips on what to look for. I am used to buying off of ebay, so this no guarantee thing kinda worries me. How much should I pay for a tape? Or a complete series? Is each series different? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Nikki,

Welcome! The best thing you can do is to utilize the search engine on this site to see if there have been any negative comments about a potential trader or seller. Some are afraid to post negative feedback about folks that have burned them, so not all of the people that are dishonest will be posted on this website, sad to say.

There are a few here that will charge outlandish prices ($15 for a SP tape), but since I've never purchased from these sellers, I can't vouch for their honesty or their products. That is awfully steep to my way of thinking...unless you're desperate.

I would much prefer to actually buy tapes off of eBay or Yahoo where there is some sort of accountability as well as cheaper prices. Here, you can get burned more easily unless the seller accepts PayPal.

As far as trading is concerned, most traders will only trade for a few tapes to beginning traders, so don't take this personally.

Selling shows taped off of TV is not actually legal on eBay while yahoo allows this out-and-out. There aren't many there but if you keep your eyes open for specific shows you might get lucky.

I hope this helps!

I checked with the post office today, and they said that videos would qualify for an "M Bag" which is far cheaper than any other shipping method overseas. Generally, postal workers will not offer you this feature. You need to ask and prod.

Thank you so much for your help Jen. I really appreciate it. I guess I will try not to buy too much stuff off of here, but if I can not do it on EBAY where else can I purhcase it? LOL I guess I will just have to search like you said and go from there. I really do not have anything to trade right now, so I do not have to worry about that dept yet.

Question, how much would you pay for a tape for series such as Rags to Riches, Punky Brewster, and Silver Spoons, or ALF? Are more popular shows worth more money?

Again thanks for all ur help!!!:D

I do not look for modern shows, so I don't really know how they compare with the good oldies; however, there's an entire Alf series on right now for "buy it now" at $40.00 at Yahoo auctions. http://page.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/auction/75743896?aucview=0x23
