View Full Version : Lucy - the movie
sonyab 05-05-2003, 11:50 AM WOW the movie last night was FANTASTIC! i was really impressed by the way they showed the episodes of the chocolate factory, the stomping on the grapes and many more and they showed every single shot of it.. they did a fantastic job.. it was really sad.. their lives were so difficult and sad.. . i feel so bad for them.. A+ what did everybody else think?
SPLAIN 05-05-2003, 01:28 PM I was constantly torn between HORRIBLE and FANTASTIC, some parts were great, the acting was great, the errors in the piece were terrible though, especially in the last hour, the times were wrong by years in some cases.

I agree. And it seemed kind of rushed at the end too, you can't put Lucy's whole life in Hollywood up until she divorces Desi in just 3 hours. It didn't seem like it was on that long at all.
lucyfan23 05-05-2003, 08:20 PM I know! They were saying that the Grapes episode was 1958...that's so wrong.
*ShortCake* 05-05-2003, 08:43 PM LMAO.. I betcha the movie would have been shorter, if they didnt play all those damn commercials in between!!
LucyCompanyPhan 05-05-2003, 09:09 PM I didn't like it that much. It was alright. I have my reasons, but I KNEW that there was no way in 1958 The grape episode aired. that was WAY off

Yeah and also they said that Desi bought RKO Radio Studios in 1958 when he brought the studio in i think was 1952 -1954. I wanna say 53? But it was somthing close! Oh well besides the dates i thought the movie was great, I thought the ending was tastfully done with them hold arm and arm and walking of the set into the dark! What I thought they should had done was do a 2 parter like the Judy Garland Movie ABC aired! That would had been much better!

The acting was great, but the script sucked.

No, Lucy and Desi bought RKO in 1958.
SPLAIN 05-06-2003, 10:43 AM He was buying it or at least in discussions to make the purchase while they were filming the Tallulah Bankhead episode of The Lucy Desi comedy hour, the movie had him talking to Lucy about it during the RED scare, which was so stupid. Glaring errors like that drive us real fans nuts! Trust me, there were dozens of worse ones too!
Brandon 05-06-2003, 05:53 PM i liked it... but that lady doesn't look like lucy...
sonyab 05-06-2003, 06:16 PM well she was close enough.. i mean what actress looks like lucy? :)

I agree, I thought she was one of the best actresses out there to play Lucille Ball, I thought they had many similarities and features between them, you just can't expect anybody to portray Lucy, and she was the best at it.
Dennis3264 05-06-2003, 09:29 PM Frances Fisher looks a lot like Lucy(she played her in the 1991 TV movie with basically the same plot).
lucyfan23 05-06-2003, 10:19 PM I think Deborah Messing (Grace) looks a lot like Lucy when she has her hair put up. Anybody else agree?
SPLAIN 05-07-2003, 09:32 AM Yes she does, and is a big Lucy fan too, she has been compared to Lucy a lot! Back to the previous post, yes, both actresses who played Lucy were the best things about their respective movies!

The one that really bothered me was when Desi was giving his speech to the audience during the Red Scare and he jumped into the speech that he actually gave on Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town in 1954. "We came to this country and we didn't have a cent in our pockets, from cleaning canary cages..." Grr  something about that just got on my nerves.
SPLAIN 05-12-2003, 10:15 AM I lost it at the scene where he tears down the house because of the pipes leaking, yes he did have a tantrum, but nothing that crazy and there was no party going on at the time. De De took the kids away and told them dad was rehearsing a TV show.
sonyab 05-12-2003, 10:26 AM when did that happen splain? i didnt see de de do that.. where? i was worried about the children and wondered why lucy didnt cover her daughters eyes and/or had someone take her away from that.. :( and her son too.
Mickey 05-12-2003, 11:11 AM Why? If somebody had taken me away every time my dad got angry I'd never have been at home. :) Besides, I very much doubt Desi would ever have turned on his kids. From the way Lucie talks about him now you'd think he was practically a saint!
sonyab 05-12-2003, 11:15 AM ROFL well because she was a little girl and she was scared.. i dont know how old she was but still.. :) this was more than just angry WOAH :)
SPLAIN 05-12-2003, 03:35 PM Maybe i said it wrong, but what i meant was that's what happened in REAL life, not in that stupid movie! And i totally agree with Lucie and Mickey too, Desi was a great dad and never would have been abusive, maybe verbally yes, like when he chastised his son for not being able to do anything or sleeping all day, but he would not have hurt either kid. Lucy gave them the silent treatment when they dissapointed her, and that's no better, but neither knew how to be a great parent back then, but the kids still had to know they were loved, both parents made mistakes but their children were their whole life, they left them more than millions, they left them great memories.
Mickey 05-13-2003, 05:18 AM ...because she was a little girl and she was scared...
It was just a film though...
sonyab 05-13-2003, 09:09 AM for splain and mickey: i know your right.. :)
