View Full Version : Sanford and Son should only be seen on DVD and not cable or local TV because.........

the show does not have a real ending to close out the series. The last episode of this series is when Fred goes to night school-135. So if you follow the show from season one it leads up to nothing. So to me it's better to just buy the DVD instead of a cable or local station airing it because people who watch this show have nothing to look forward to but episode 135. No series Finale at all.

I think they should have had a series finale. What a bad way to end a great show.

Exactly, a show like S&S that was in the top ten from 72-76 deserved a proper sendoff.

Solomon, what is your big deal with series finales?

I guess a sitcom like sanford and son without a finale makes the first 5 seasons pointless. I look at it like why start something if it's not going to get the proper sendoff. I love the show, it's very funny but it just makes me so sick to follow a show to the last season and then nothing. I can just imagine how all the people felt who actually followed this show on NBC in the 70's. I know they were all so disappointed

FOR ONCE I AGREE WITH SOLOMON. I WOULD'VE LIKED TO SEE SOME OF THE CAST REUNITED. LIKE BIG MONEY GRIP...RODNEY......CAROL(MALE).......COUSIN EMMA AND A FEW WHO HAD AN EPISODE HIGHLIGHTED FOR US THE VIEWER TO GET TO KNOW THEM.

I completely disagree. I think shows should air regardless if they have a final episode or not. It is the enjoyment that you get out of it that really counts.

And SOLOMON, why are you making such a big deal of shows not having finales? If you really love the show then isn't shouldn't matter if it has a finale episode or not. I am not saying the finale episodes are bad, I am precisely saying if a show doesn't have a finale episode, then that shouldn't keep you from watching it and networks from airing it.

OK, maybe i should have said it shouldn't be part of a daily lineup on TV LAND, only part of a boxset special-Would you agree with that?

NO! Sanford and Son, like other TV Land shows, should air daily. People would like to see the whole series you know, not just an episode here or there.

What happens if they can't afford it? Then, that only leaves cable.

Yeah you have a point. Still hard to believe a show that was in the top 10 for 5 straight years has no finale.

I think I posted this before in another thread, but to me the last episode (which aired sometime last week on tv land) felt like a last episode to me. I mean what else were they gonna do? Fred graduating high school was a good way to go if you ask me...

It wasn't a last episode because the other cast members were not involved. It was Season finale not series finale. A series finale storyline would have included Rollo, Grady, Bubba, Esther, Donna and Uncle Woody.

Esther, Donna, and Bubba were all involved and Fred thanked them while accepting his diploma along with thanking Lamont. The last shot was of him and Lamont telling each other they love each other. In may not be a series finale by name, I mean it may not have been hyped that way, but it seemed like closure to me and it seemed like everyone involved knew it was their last hurrah.

But usually when there is a series finale, all cast members are accomplishing something not just the primary characters.

Well, I don't think there has to be a set standard for a series finale. I just look for some sort of closure to come of the whole thing and I feel that Sanford and Son did this well. I mean, seriously, what else could they have done? Moved out of the junkyard? Fred was the focus of the show anyway, if he accomplishes a life goal in the last episode color me happy :)

GRADUATION IS USUALLY A DOOR..NOT AN ENDING. THEY DIDN'T STRESS THE FACT THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE A DIPLOMA DURING THE SERIES. IF LAMONT HAD TAKEN SOME COURSES AND THEN GRADUATED IT WOULD'VE BEEN MORE EXCEPTED SINCE HE ALWAYS COMPLAINED ABOUT BEING PULLED OUT OF SCHOOL TO WORK IN THE JUNKYARD. LAMONT WOULD GRADUATE AND GO INTO SHIP BUILDING. HOW ABOUT THAT.

Exactly, Lamont or neither of his friends were not apart of the storyline. Just Fred which makes it's a season finale instead of a series finale.
