View Full Version : Which female do you like on The Honeymooners? damin mance 05-04-2003, 05:39 AM i love alice! damin mance 05-22-2003, 08:17 AM hello! Tweety 05-23-2003, 11:05 PM Alice, EASILY! Audrey Meadows (along with her sister Jane) were two of the most beautiful women in the world in the 1950s...in fact, it's fairly well known (but I'll mention it anyway) that Jackie Gleason originally didn't want Audrey for the part of Alice, because she was already well known as one of the most beautiful women in New York...so Audrey had a photographer come over at 3 am or 4 am and photograph her without makeup, etc...Gleason saw the picture and instantly wanted the lady in the photo to play Alice...not realizing that Audrey was that girl... I thought Audrey did a fantastic job of playing Alice, particularly when you realize that they would only rehearse each show one time (Gleason had a photographic memory, and hated to rehearse, because he thought it ruined the sponte..uh...spontenae...he thought their performances wouldn't be natural if they rehearsed too much). I never really liked Trixie's character in the show...way to whiney!! And Joyce Randolph was not a very good actress. Audrey/Alice rules!! btw - Audrey even looked great in her bath robe (see photo above)...she was an amazing woman treky 05-24-2003, 12:28 AM I heard that when Jackie saw those pictures of Audrey without makeup, her hair mussed, wearing a torn bathrobe, etc. he laughed and said "Any broad who would go that far to get a role, I just have to hire!" I liked Audrey Meadows as Alice, too. But I also liked Pert Kelton in the role. A few years ago, THE DISNEY CHANNEL showed a special called "The Honeymooners- the really lost episodes" where they showed a lot of the sketches with Pert Kelton (the first Alice) and the first and only time that Elaine Stritch played Trixie. (Jackie replaced her after her first appearence). That was when it was a sketch on the "Calvacade of Stars" which was a variety show in the early 50s on the Dumont network (a fourth network in the 50s). Then CBS bought the show, and renamed it "The Jackie Gleason show" and that's when Audrey Meadows & Joyce Randolph joined the cast. TV LAND reran that special 3 or 4 years ago. anaïsFANxx 07-23-2003, 12:47 PM My favorite on the show was Trixie. Brian Damage 08-16-2003, 12:51 PM Definitely Alice.
