How far is the beer place where Laverne and Shirley worked from the Cunnigham House?

Was that brewery even in Milwaukee? It would be pretty hard to determen how far they were from eachother, so I dont know If anyone really knows.

It wouldn't be hard for someone who lives or lived in Milwaukee. A person who lives or lived in Milaukee would also know if that brewery was really in Milwaukee which is why the post said MILWAUKEE RESIDENTS ONLY

Um. Yes, Shotz was in Milwaukee, but like Cunningham Hardware-- its fake!!

But, seeing how L&S are lower-class and HD is upper-middle class, theyre probably on opposite sides on Milwaukee.

Who knows, but if the question doesn't get answered then that would mean there are probably no Milwaukee residents on board.

Actually, the brewery in Milwaukee that Shotz is SUPPOSED to be is 'Schlitz.' It's in midtown Milwaukee, as is Knapp St.

The Cunninghams supposedly live in west Milwaukee. About a mile or two away.

I'm from green bay, which is a little further north, but i go to milwaukee for concerts all the time. (with side trips to explore for l&s stuff.)

There's a knapp street, which is near marshall street.... but there's no 720. :(

i also have a very cool pic from a bus sign when i was there for an otown concert. (it's ice cream and a burger, in case you cant see.)

Life-long Milwaukee resident here. Yeah, the Shotz brewery is most likely inspired by Schlitz, which no longer makes beer in Milwaukee. Today the old Schlitz brewery is an office complex employing over 4,000 people. Harley Davidson was planning to build a museum in Schlitz Park, but that one fell through because the old brewing houses are better suuited for office spaces than museums. They're currently looking for other spaces in central Milwaukee for their musuem.

As for the Cunninghams, I would probably say from the looks of their house, and the fact they lived on the "west side," that they were residents of Wauwatosa, a first-ring suburb, or perhaps Washington Heights, which is a Milwaukee neighborhood known today for its stately homes, tree-lined streets, and politically liberal residents. If they did live in Washington Heights, their hardware store was probably on Vliet Street, a nice neighborhood shopping street filled with all kinds of mom-and-pops.

The visitor to Milwaukee may be disappointed to see that there is only one major brewery left in town -- Miller. But there are a plethora of smaller microbreweries and brew pubs. One of the more popular ones, Lakefront Brewery, gives tours of their production facilities and (tiny) bottling line. As a gag they put a glove on one of the beer bottles. This is only funny to out-of-town visitors, because to be perfectly honest most Brew City residents are a little tired of the Laverne and Shirley references we invetibly get in the national media.

Oh, and one more thing. There's at least four or five old drive-ins that purport to be the inspiration for Arnold's drive in. There is really no way to verify these claims, but there are a few places such as Leon's on the South Side, that look strikingly similar to Arnolds, and date back to the 1950s. Who knows....

Considering the fact that Milwaukee has about 1.5 million in the metropolitan area (apx. 600,000 in the city itself), i would say that the odds are pretty good that there are people on this board who live in the vicinity.

From a Milwaukee native ;)

Though this is a very old post, it is by far the best "guess" I've seen yet. I'd put $ on the Cunninghams living in Washington Heights (seeing as one of the most common statements of "Milwaukee's Washington High School provided the inspiration for the exteriors of the fictional Jefferson") is somewhat nearby.

As for Arnolds I've always heard that this info used in Wiki (The Milky Way Drive-In, located on Port Washington Road in the North Shore suburb of Glendale, Wisconsin (now Kopp's Frozen Custard Stand), was the inspiration for the original Arnold's Drive-In; it has since been demolished.) was one of the most accepted theories.
