J.J being a art director and living in the projects made no sense at all. The 5th season needs to be thrown in the trash.

The man had to have somewhere to stay! I mean, of course, he's working good, but because he's now considered the sole man of the house when Florida left. He wouldn't leave his family in the projects like they were nothing. I wouldn't do that myself.
Plus, he probably wasn't making that much to actually buy a place of his own.

The family should have moved together OUT OF THE PROJECTS with him being a Art Director. It just seems like nothng was getting better which is why the show lost tons and tons of viewers.

I'm not talking about J.J leaving his Family, he could have gotten a new apartment and Thelma and Michael would have moved out with him.

Do you honestly think the show lost viewers because the family didn't move out of the projects? Get real! How lame! In real life anyone knows if you've lived in poverty for awhile and you come into some money, you don't just turn around and - presto - get a beautiful home. That thing takes time my man (or woman). So what! If the viewers had to get used to a new setting, it would probably take away from the show anyway. What sitcom do YOU watch now that is totally based on reality?!

It just seemed like nothing was never getting better. James gets a diploma but can't find a job, Thelma has a chance at a scholarship but doesn't go for some reason, J.J becomes a art director and then loses his job, SO it was the same old thing, bad luck.

And bad luck never happens to you?

The Evans had bad luck all the time. James was the Al Bundy of the 1970's-LOL!!!

Guess what Einstein, real life never made for good sitcom. And if James made it big and the family moved out of the projects in say...the second season, it would have been more successful?

People probably would have been interested in seeing the Evans finally get a break. BUT the Evans didn't get a break until the last episode.LOL

The problem with Sitcom Analyzer is that he treats sitcoms like they are real life. He sits down watches every episode with a fine tooth comb and analyzes the heck out of everything for no good reason. He's the only person on the face of the planet that actually believes that Good Times was not a spinoff!!!LOL

But he could have moved to a better apt and took THelma and Michael with him. I just think the writers didn't realize how dumb it was for J.J to have a position like art director and still live in the Ghetto.

It would have ruined the show if they left the ghetto. Remember what happened when Roseanne Conner won the lottery on Roseanne. It totally ruined her show.

The whole premise of the show was a black family surviving in the ghetto. No ghetto, no show.

The show lost viewers because the two leads (Esther Rolle and John Amos) had left the show by that point, depriving the show of two strong characters who just happened to be the parents.

Even though Florida Evans returned for the sixth season, the damage was done and the show was sent to TV heaven...syndication!

Everybody questions J.J's project residency, what about Willona? She was SINGLE, had a FULL TIME JOB at the boutique and was always wearing designer clothes. It showed her apartment a few times, it looked nothing like the Evan's drab place. What was Willona doing living in the projects? Scamming the government if you ask me!

Good Question. Why would a single person with no dependents be living in the projects. Housing Projects were for low income families not low income individuals-LOL

That's true. I never really thought about Willona. Good point.:happyface
